Baker, Dorothy Mae ~ 75, of Hazard, died Monday, December  15 at the Hazard ARH Medical Center. She was a sales clerk for many years  at Tots & Teens Clothing and was a member of Hazard Village Church of  Christ. She was the daughter of the late Ray Farler and the late Emma  Walker Farler. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Clara  Belle. She is survived by her husband, Elmer Baker;  daughters Patricia James and husband Chuck and Phyllis Shearer and husband Glen;  grandchildren Justin James and Michael James; great grandchildren Destiny and  Rylee and a host of family and friends. Baker, Jacquita Couch ~ age 71, of Overpeck, OH passed away on December 26, 2008 at Fort Hamilton Hospital. She was born on November 13, 1937 in Browns Fork, KY, the daughter of the late Mitchell and Della (Morgan) Couch. Jacquita was a graduate of M.C. Napier High School. On September 17, 1960 in Hamilton, she married Earl A. Baker, who preceded her in death on December 8, 1988. Jacquita is survived by her children; Christine (Michael) Supinger of Maineville, OH, Earl M. Baker, Mary Louise -born May 11, 1940 in Perry County,  departed this life on October 7 at the Hazard ARH Medical Center. At the time of  her passing she was 68 years, four months and 26 days of age. She was a  life-long resident of Perry County. She is preceded in death by her  parents, Elmer and Martha Marcum Baker; brothers Curt and Walter Baker; sisters  Clara Reed, Marie Holland, Georgia Cornett, Erma Lou Miller, Bessie Baker,  Josephine and Christine Baker and two stillborn infants. Banks, Age 70, of Middletown, OH passed away July 1, 2008 at Atrium Medical Center. He was born December 20, 1937 in Hazard, KY to Russell and Minnie (Caudill) Banks. He served in the Air Force. Donald was owner and operator of Don's Tire Shop for 40 years and was a member of Stratford Heights Church of God. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Minnie Banks. Donald is survived by his wife, Ann (Kennedy) Banks of 51 years; sons, Jeff (Kimm) Banks and Mike (Rhonda) -H,Amy Banks of Louisiana, Misty MacKey and Heather (Jason) Meadow of Middletown; 9 great-grandchildren, including His buddy "Big Boy"; brothers, Robert and Arthur Banks of MI; sisters, Edna (Robert) Cagle and Helen (Larry) Robertson of MI. Barnett, Eugene ~ 71, of Hazard, passed away Monday, April 20 at 65 L&N  Drive in Hazard. He was a retired carpenter. He was the son of the late  Adam Barnett, and the late Minnie Price Barnett. He was also preceded in death  by his sister Marie Barnett and brother Paul Barnett.
He is survived by  his wife, Gladys Barnett; daughters Donna and Brian Sellers and Debbie Barnett  and friend Ronald Callahan; sons Daniel and Patricia Barnett, Eugene and Nancy  Barnett, Jr., and James Barnett; brothers Bobby Barnett, David Barnett, and Roy  Barnett; 13 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Begley, Mr. C.W. - born November 18, 1941 departed this life on  September 24, 2008 at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Medical Ctr. He was 66  years old. C.W. was born at Confluence(Hell-For-Certain), Ky., the son of the  late Cleon C. Begley and the late Rixie Pratt Begley. By occupation he was a  retired Railroad Engineer, former Hazard City Policeman and firefighter. He was  a retired U.S. Army and Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War. C.W. was a member  of the Hazard Masonic Lodge, 32nd degree mason, shriner - member of Hillbilly  Clan # 33 & 3, member of Scottish Rite, life member of the V.F.W. Post #  7387, V.F.W. Vice Commander District # 14, and member of Oleika Temple. C.W. was  a member of the First Baptist Church, Bonnyman, Ky. C.W. enjoyed his V.F.W. and  Shriner's activities - including riding his 18 wheel coal truck in parades, and  especially being with his grandchildren. Mr. C. W. Begley was a life-long  resident of Hazard, Ky. residing at 201 Begley Court at the time of his  death. Mr. C.W. Begley was preceded in death by his parents: Cleon C.  Begley and Rixie Pratt Begley. Begley, Don “Blackjack” ~ 71, of Burnside, Ky., passed away on Tuesday, March 24 at his home. He was born on October 18, 1937 in Wooton, Ky,. the son  of the late Sam and Stella Steels Begley. He was a retired meter man for  Equitable Gas, formerly Kentucky & West Virginia Gas Company. He was an avid  gardener, farmer, and U.K. Basketball fan. He loved to fish and hunt, especially  bird hunting. He was a former all-state basketball and baseball player in high  school. He was of the Christian faith. Begley, Norma Lee Richie -73, of Enon, OH passed away March 17, 2008 in Dayton. She was born August 28, 1934 in Hardburly, KY to the late Curt and Grace Richie. Norma was a member of the Enon Church of Christ and a member of the Eastern Star. She was a pianist and an artist. Her love of doing art started at a young age when she taught her self to play the piano as a young girl. J.C. was the owner of Bentley's Auto Service for 31 years, retiring in 2006. He served his country in the United States Army and was a member of DAV #131. Benton, Bethel Viola  ~ 93, of Hazard, passed away  Wednesday, February 4. She was a Stanley Home Products representative and  a very active member of the Bowman United Methodist Church. She was the  daughter of the late Arch Seale and the late Callie Holcomb. She is also  preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Robert Benton; daughters Loretta  Styron and Bobbie Gale Madden Collier; brothers Carl and Gentry Seale and sister  Margaret Dix. She is survived by daughters Emma Gene Farley, Jenny Lee  Fugate, and Ladonna  Smith; sisters Geneva Hignite, Emma Hignite, and Edna  Bolick; 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and a host of great great  grandchildren. Blevins, Rodney ‘Rocky’ -40, of Cumberland passed away Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008, from injuries sustained in a mining accident. Rodney was a native of Prestonsburg and had lived in Cumberland most of his life. He was a 1986 graduate of Cumberland High School and a proud Redskin football player. He was employed by AME Mining in Cornettsville as a heavy equipment operator. He believed in the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Blevins; two brothers, Tony Blevins and Joe Blevins; his mother-in-law, Brenda Hubbs Bailey; and a great niece, Rachel Baker. She was born May 17, 1942 in Darfork, KY, the daughter of Irene (Spurlock) Bowling and the late Oscar Bowling. Carol was a 1960 graduate of Hughes High School and worked as an executive assistant for Bowling Precision Machining. She is survived by her mother, Irene Bowling; children, William Jerry Blust and Robyn Sue (Tony Jarrett) Blust; grandson, Evan Michael Jarrett; siblings, Sandra (Ferdinand) Stichtenoth, Wiley (Lillian) Bowling, and Oscar (Margaret) Bowling. He was a member of the Ham Operators Association, Past Vice President of the Butler County CB Club, the Middletown Sportsman's Club, and was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a Kentucky Colonel. He is survived by his 2 daughters, Lora (James) Pope, and Tressie (Bert) Brashear; his son, Melvin Bowling II, and lifetime friend Mike Gritton; grandchildren Timothy Jones,Jr., Megan Jones, and Jamie Pope & Alex; 3 great grandchildren Zachary Watkins, Dustin Watkins, and Alexis Hollon; 3 sisters, Peggy & Ron Risner and family, Mary & Jack Thompson and family, and Ida & Roger Mullins and family; a brother, Corbitt & Diane Wilder and family; a special sister-in-law, Sue Joseph and family; and 4 special friends, Dorsey Howard, Jimmy Anderson, Danny Fugate, and Shirley Keith. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce in 2006; his first grandchild, Trissity Nicole; his grandfather, George Bowling, uncle Randall Bowling, grandparents Mamie and Arnold Wells, and a special brother-in-law, Brownie Roy Joseph. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM October 17, 2008 at the Breitenbach- McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. James Anderson. Friends may call from 1 PM until service time. Brashear, Dora Fields -age 88, of Viper, Ky., departed this earthly life to enter into eternal life with Lord Jesus Christ on June 10, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. A native of Perry County, Dora was born February 22, 1920, a daughter of the late Monroe and Ollie Fields. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marion C. Brashear, sister Grace Combs and stepson Aaron Brashear. Dora began her teaching career in 1941 and received her degree in Elementary Education at Cumberland College. She retired from Viper Elementary School in 1975. Dora was a member of Lone Pine Baptist Church since 1968 where she taught Sunday School and received numerous awards for perfect attendance. Dora's legacy was her Christian service which touched the lives of those who knew her. Dora is survived by her brothers Dave Fields, wife Velta of Richmond, Ky., Earl Fields, wife Gloria of Corbin, Ky., and James Fields, wife Mary Lee of Johnson City, Tn. She is survived by three stepsons: Harold Brashear, Keith Brashear, wife Beatrice, Robert A. Brashear, wife Virginia all of Viper, Ky. and four stepdaughters: Thelma Riddle of Morristown, Tn., Stella Ison of Detroit, Mi., Lucille Raby of Morristown, Tn. and Ann Pendleton of Sanford, Il. as well as many nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and great grandchildren. Arrangements were entrusted to the staff of Brashear-Callahan Funeral Home of Viper, Ky. where the family received friends on June 13. The funeral service was conducted at the funeral home on June 14 with Pastor Arnold Branson officiating. Burial was at the Fields Cemetery on Right Fork of Mace's Creek, Viper, Ky. Brashear, Irene Willis-age 89, of Viper, Ky., died Monday, June 9 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Ky. She was a member of the Long Pine Church. She was the daughter of the late Luther Willis and the late Donna Griffith. She is preceded in death by her husband, Eli Brashear. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Carol Sallee and Vicki Roberts; sons Wayne Brashear and Willis Brashear; and sisters Janice, Priscilla and Flora Bell. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Brashear, Jack ~ 78, of Viper, passed away Wednesday, April 15 at the Hazard ARH medical center. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Brashear of Viper;  sister Marie Watts of South Carolina; brothers Jesse Brashear of Dayton, Ohio,  Matt Brashear, Jr. of Louisville, and Byron Walters of Hazard; sister-in-law  Zona Brashear of Viper and a host of nieces, nephews, family and  friends. The visitation was held Thursday, April 16 at the  Brashear-Callahan Funeral Home. Funeral services were at the funeral home on  Friday, April 17 with David Cobble officiating. Brashear, J.C. -78, of Amburgey, Ky., died Thursday, October 16 at the Hazard ARH Medical Center. He was a self employed businessman for many years. He was the son of the late Coolie Brashear and the late Ann Whitaker. He is preceded in death by his wife, Christine Martin Brashear and two brothers. Brashear, Lorraine -85, of Hazard, died Tuesday, August 19 at the Hazard ARH Regional Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Dave Speaks and the late Ann Stidham. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Louise Pennington and Gay Fugate; brother Don Speaks and granddaughter Alicia Ann Craft Farler. She is survived by her husband, Kenny Brashear; daughters Deborah Louise Craft, Jill Darko and Janet Leigh Sandlin; son David Kendrick Brashear; grandchildren Bobby John Combs, Rebecca Ann Feltner, Jennifer Michelle Brashear, Makenzie Brooke Brashear, Jacob Kendrick Brashear and Kayla Elizabeth Sandlin. She is also survived by one great grandchild, Harli McKenna Feltner. Arrangements were handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel in Hazard where the family received friends on Wednesday, August 20. The funeral service was at the chapel on Thursday, August 21 with Mark Tabata and Haliburton Greer officiating. Burial was at Felix Brahsear Cemetery in Viper. Brewer, Archie -age 58 of Middletown, OH passed away November 8, 2008 in the Dayton VA Medical Center. He was born April 2, 1950 in Ary, KY, the son of the late Noah and Zada (Henson) Brewer. Archie served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam and was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and the Air Medal. Following his military service he was employed as a drywall finisher with Western Ohio Drywall. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Ethel Brewer; sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Vondal Whitt; and brother-in-law, Ben Martin. He is survived by his children, Noah J. Brewer, Dawn L. Lamb and husband Scott; grandchildren, Trevor and Erika Lamb; brothers, James Brewer, Noah "Toby" Brewer and wife Linda, Jerry Brewer; sisters, Louvenia Martin, Nancy and Dave McCarthy, Kezzie and Tom Martindale; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on November 13, 2008 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. in the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, OH. A graveside service with military honors will be held on November 14, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. in the Dayton National Cemetery. Brewer, Seldon -85, of Troy, Ohio, died Sunday, September 14 at the Grandview Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. Brewer was born October 18, 1922 to the late Simon and Fanny (Stacy) Brewer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel (Jones) Brewer, who passed away in 2006; sister Thelma Smith and brother Herbert Brewer. By occupation, he was a retired coal miner. He is survived by daughters Betty and Burley Combs of Hazard, Jeanette and Harvey Cromes of Troy, Bonnie and James Barger of New Carlisle, Ohio, Glenna and Frank McLemore of Troy, Brenda Brewer of Troy and Jewel Murphy of Troy; brother Virgil and Betty Brewer of Fairborn, Ohio; sister Tilda Mae Grigsby of Hazard. He is also survived by one grandson and three granddaughters, two great grandsons and four great granddaughters. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 17 at the Baird Funeral Home in Troy, Ohio. Burial will take place at Casstown Cemetery of Casstown, Ohio. Brown, Odean -age 85, of Middletown, OH passed away May 9, 2008 at his residence. He was born November 27, 1922 in Hazard, KY. He served in the Army during W.W. II, in Burma and South Africa. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars. He moved to Middletown after the war. He was an assembler at General Motors and Frigidaire, retiring in 1976 after a total of 30 years. He enjoyed traveling with his youngest son, and his hobbies were reading and gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernie and Rebecca (Brashear) Brown; his wife, Thelma in 2000; 7 brothers, George, Everett, Coleman, Greenville, Otis, Paul and Johnny; and 4 sisters, Edna, Della, Sadie and Grace. He is survived by 5 daughters, Linda Robinson, husband William, Middletown, OH, Sharon Ary, husband Howard, Oregonia, OH, Lois Miller, husband Darliss, Middletown, Cindy Hall, husband Ross, Middletown, and Charlene Barnett, husband Johnny, Middletown; 2 sons, David Brown, wife Lisa, Middletown and Scott Brown, wife Betsy, Middletown; 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Eunice, CO and Emma, NC; 1 brother, Don, Moscow, OH; and many nieces and nephews. Brown, Ollie -age 97, of Nancy passed away Friday, April 18, 2008 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. Mrs. Brown was born in Vicco, Ky., on June 15, 1910 to the late Jim and Louann (Combs) Combs. She attended Bogle Town Pentecostal Church. Mrs. Brown is survived by three sons, Burchel (and Lois) Brown, Nancy, Frank (and Sharon) Brown, Somerset, Evan Gene Brown, London, Ky.; three daughters, Rebecca (and Evan) Campbell, Hazard, KY., Maxine (and Evertt) Combs, Hazard, Ky., Lena (and James) Brewer, London, Ky.; a brother, Troy Combs, Hazard, Ky.; 23 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Along with her parents she is preceded in death by a son, Sam Brown; a brother, Roy Combs; and four sisters, Alice Jent, Lauie Jent, Rachel Jent and Rebecca Collins. Funeral services for Ollie Brown will be held on Monday, April 21 at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home at noon, with Bro Ernie White officiating. Bryant Jesse Jr., of Hamilton, OH was born February 4, 1927 in Hazard, KY. He went home to be with the Lord on May 12, 2008. He was the eldest son of the late Jesse Bryant and Polly Baker. Jesse is survived by his wife Jean Bryant of Hamilton, OH, four children, Brenda Rommel, Ronny (Paula) Bryant, James (Debi) Bryant and Carolyn (David) Taylor, one brother Donnie Bryant, five sisters Alma Combs, Wanda Benton, Leona Watts, Louise Baker and Betty Gabbard, ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters Opal Begley, Ruby McLuren and Ailene Pigman, a brother Truman Bryant and his son in law Wayne Rommel. Jesse was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Waukesha. During World war II and was one of the first US Sailors on the ground at Nagasaki, Japan 46 days after the dropping of the atomic bomb. He received the WWII Victory Medal, The China Service Medal, The American Campaign Medal and The Asiatic Campaign Medal for his service. Mr. Bryant was retired from The Ford Motor Company in 1991 where he served as a Bargaining Committeeman for the U.A.W local 863 for 15 years. Mr. Bryant was a member of the Syrian Shrine, a member of the The Scottish Rite and The High Twelve Club. He was a 32nd degree Mason with the Hugh L. Bates Lodge #686 and received his 50 year pin this year. He was also a Kentucky Colonel. Jesse and Jean were baptized together at the Winton Road First Church of God. Jesse loved the Lord and was devoted to his Lord, his church and his family. Friends may call at The Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd. Burden, Ruby (Gabbard) -85, of Lebanon, OH passed April 17, 2008 at Lebanon Country Manor. Born November 29, 1922 in Perry County, KY, the daughter of Belvin and Mary Alice (Bashaw) Gabbard, she had lived in the Lebanon area for nearly fifty years. A loving and devoted mother and wife, she was a former member of the Lebanon Nazarene Church. Preceded in death by dear husband Adrian Burden, her parents, and brother Jessie Gabbard, she is survived by her daughter Sherri Lynn Moore of Lebanon, OH, brother Hobert Gabbard of KY, Estill Gabbard of Lebanon, OH, half brother Arthur McCarty of KY, and half sister Bessie Mae McCarty of Lebanon, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a host of other dear family members and friends. Visitation April 19, 2008 from 11-12:00noon with funeral service following all at Stine-Kilburn FH Lebanon with burial in the Lebanon Cemetery. Burns, Burton ~ age 67 of Hamilton, OH passed away at his residence on August 28, 2009. He was born in Perry County, KY on January 25, 1942 the son of Roscoe and Esther (Barger) Burns. Burton was an upholsterer by trade and had been employed by Perry Fabrics for over 30 years. On July 29, 1970 in Hamilton he married Vanda Gray who preceded him in death in 1996. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving companion, Dolores Stacy of Hamilton, OH; daughter Barbara Dianne Wright of Trenton, OH; a granddaughter Sarah (Larry) Holland of Hamilton; three great-grandsons, Austin, Nate, and Gabe; his extended family Ann Howard and Brandon Bunting both of Hamilton; two sisters Clara Grubb of Mt. Sterling, KY and Laura Gibson of Cincinnati, OH; two sisters-in-laws Carolyn (Tom) Orr and Jewell (Marvin) Orr, both of Dayton, OH; two special nieces, Dianna Mason of Hamilton and Joan Conn of Amelia, OH; and numerous other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in  death by his son, David Burton Burns; two sisters, Lucy Cole and Verda Campbell; four brothers, August, Earl, Paul, and David Burns; and a step-son, Terry Gray. Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Avenue, on September 1, 2009 at 10:00 AM with his nephew Rev. Dennis Burns officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held August 31, 2009 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burton, Paul G. -Age 75 of Hamilton, OH passed away February 6, 2008 at Hospice of Hamilton, with his family at his side. He was born December 15, 1932 in Hazard, KY, the son Roscoe and Callie (Blakenship) Burton. On May 3, 1975 Paul married Betty Williams-Braden in Newport, KY. Also, he was a Veteran of the US Army, serving in Germany. Paul is survived by his wife, Betty Burton; children, Greg (Tina) Daily, Gary Daily, Sue Daily and Cindy (Alan) Smith; grandchildren, Justin, Jeremy and Larin Smith; and great-grandchild, Justin, Alan, Jr. The family would like to thank all those who have cared for Paul over the years, especially Michelle and Hospice of Hamilton at Sunrise. Bush, Everett -age 82, of Hazard, Ky., died Monday, June 9 at the Hazard ARH Medical Center. He was retired from Kentucky Power Company after 42 and one-half years of service. Mr. Bush was the son of the late Bill Bush and the late Leon Cornett. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Bush; daughters Linda C. Stacy and Gary, Brenda G. Watts and Darrell, and Marsha A. Begley and Ricky; sons Donald C. Bush and Linda and Everett Bush, Jr. and April; sisters Bobbie Ludlan and Doris A. Dixon and Tommy. He is also survived by nine grandchildren - William “Bill”, Alan Scott, Lindsey, Charles, Stephen, Misty, Rebecca, Everett III and Donella, Chip, Chris and Tammy; 13 great grandchildren - Summer, Autumn, Blake, Caitlin, Tyler, Ryan, Candace, Parker, Logan, McKenna, Caden, Preston and Gabriel. Arrangements were handled by Maggard Brothers Funeral Home of Hazard, Ky. where the family receive friends on Wednesday, June 11.
