Campbell, Ada Wooten ~ age 73, of Monroe, OH passed away March 15, 2009 at her residence. She was born July 31, 1935 in Hazard, KY to Samuel and Becky Ann (Duff) Wooten. She was a finisher at Monsanto for 21 years, retiring in 1991. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Ronnie D. Campbell; brothers, Bill and Edward Wooten and a sister, Gladys Napier. Ada is survived by a son, William E. Campbell of Monroe, OH; grandchildren, Jessica, Matthew and Samantha Campbell; sisters, Verna Napier of Monticello, KY and Anna Maggard of Hazard, KY. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on March 21, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Baker-Stevens Funeral Home. Campbell, Betty Sue -62, of Viper, passed away Saturday, November 1 at her residence. She was retired from the Fayette County School System. She was the daughter of the late Warren Campbell, Sr. and the late Katie Faye Ritchie. She is survived by her sister, Sally Adams; brother Warren Campbell, Jr. and Dessie; nieces Missy Ritchie, Renee Adams, Tara Sue Adams and Kristy Thomas; great nephews Logan Thomas and Sheldon Ritchie and great niece Jade Adams. Arrangements were handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard where the family received friends on Monday, November 3. The funeral service was at the chapel Tuesday, November 4 with Rev. Campbell, Colson W. -born March 29, 1919,  departed this life on Monday, September 15 at the Hazard ARH Medical Center. He  was 89 years, five months and 16 days of age at the time of his  passing. He was born at Dunraven, the son of the late Franklin Campbell  and the late Clyde Duff Campbell. He was a life long resident of Perry County,  and by occupation he was a retired coal miner and a World War II  veteran. He was a founding member of the 10 Mile Pentecostal Church and  enjoyed wood working and going to church. He was preceded in death by his  wife, Gracie Campbell; sons Franklin, Michael and Bobbie Campbell; five  grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a host of brothers and  sisters. Mr. Campbell leaves the following relatives behind to mourn his  passing: sons Justin Campbell and Reva of Grapevine, Tony Campbell and Judy of  Grapevine, Donald Campbell of Grapevine and Elvis Presley Campbell and Joyce of  Grapevine; daughters Helen Combs and Jon of 10 Mile, Marsha Martin and Bill of  Grapevine and Shirley Weist and Randy of Lotts Creek; brother Ora Campbell of  Florida; sisters Lois Spencer and Hershel of Clear Fork and Edna Franks of  Greasy Creek. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren  and six great great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted on  Wednesday, September 17 at the 10 Mile Pentecostal Church with Rev. Minor  Feltner and Rev. Juanita Combs officiating. Campbell, Curtis A. ~ age 92, of Hamilton, OH died on April 16, 2009, at Berkeley Health Center. He was born in Krypton, KY on November 8, 1916, the son of the late Samuel P. and Polly Ann (Witt) Campbell, one of a family of 12 children. Curtis graduated from Buckhorn High School, a Presbyterian school in Buckhorn, KY. He continued his education at Alice Lloyd College in Pippa Passes, KY. In 1939, Curtis began serving seven years in the US Navy and he received eight promotions in six years. His greatest thrill in the Navy was watching General Douglas MacArthur sign the surrender with the Japanese on board the Missouri. On May 7, 1945, in Hamilton, OH, Curtis married his wife of over 44 years, Opal Hurley and she preceded him in death on January 18, 1990. In 1946, he founded and operated the Campbell Electric Company in Hamilton, OH, for 24 years, retiring in 1970. Curtis was a member of the Washington Lodge No. 17 F&AM. He was also a member of the West Side Baptist Church where he served on every board except the nursery and was active in state, regional and national church services. Curtis has been on the board of trustees of Fort Hamilton-Hughes Hospital, served as president of Senior Citizens, and was on the Butler County Council on Alcoholism seven years, president five; "One of my dreams is the detox center we now have in Gonzage Hall." He has served on a number of state and regional alcoholism bodies and was chairman of a scholarship committee raising money for the education of orphans at Buckhorn School. He was awarded Hamilton's "I Care" Award. Curtis is survived by his constant special friend, Kathleen Stewart; two brothers and two sisters, Robert (Polina) Campbell, Mary McDaniel, Nancy Alton and Marcus (Lucille) Napier; and numerous nieces and nephews. Curtis was also preceded in death by seven sisters and brothers, Grace McIntyre, Tish Mosley, Lillian Campbell, Ruth Campbell, Sally Gully, Brown Campbell and Hiram Campbell. The family  expresses their thanks to the Berkeley Staff, Hospice of Cincinnati a nd Curtis' West Side Baptist family. Funeral services will be held at Rose Hill Mausoleum, 2421 Princeton Road, Hamilton, at 10am on April 21, 2009, with Pastor Rick Rhodus officiating. Entombment will follow. Family and friends will be received at Webb Noonan Funeral Home, Ross Avenue at South "D" Street, Hamilton, on April 20, 2009 from 4-7pm with a Masonic and Scottish Rite Ring Service at 7pm. Campbell, Mary Godsey  age 101, of Yellow Springs, OH passed away March 26, 2008 in the Hospice of Dayton. She was born February 5, 1907 in Hazard, KY, the daughter of the late Austin and Sallie (Fugate) Godsey. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Kelmon in 1982; a daughter, Ada Stockton; two sons, Paul and Virgil Campbell; a grandson, Kelly Stockton; four brothers; and three sisters. She is survived by a daughter, Gail Campbell of Yellow Springs, OH; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; as well as numerous other extended family and friends. A funeral service will be held on March 31, 2008 at 1 p.m. in the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd., Fairborn, OH; Pastor Ken Moore officiating. Campbell, Virginia  ~ 80, of Hazard, passed away Tuesday, February 3 at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Harrison Ratliff and the late  Margaret Johnson. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Cox; sons Jack  Campbell and Craig Campbell; sisters Katherine Elsea and Hilda Richardson;  brother Joe Ratliff; grandchildren Hillary Campbell Keeton, Matthew Campbell,  Ashley Campbell, Brittany Campbell Choate, and Autumn Lee Cox and great  grandchild Augusta Brooke Campbell. Campbell, William Rufus -  of Yerkes died on Sunday, February 17, the result of an automobile accident on KY 421.  At the time of his death, he was twenty-six years of age.  He was employed by Quest Security Company, and he was a member of the Masonic Lodge Hardburly 924, Shriners and Hillbilly Clan 31. The son of Namon Lee and Virginia Bailey Campbell, he is also survived by his brother, Bobby and wife Norma Napier of Vicco; his niece, Shanda Sumner and his two nephews, Christopher and Gabriel Napier.  Along with a host of other family members and friends, he is also survived by special friends Claude and Penny Mullins, Carter Couch, Jr., Becky Isaac and Leslie Carol Wilder. The family received friends on Tuesday evening, February 19, at Maggards Mountain View Chapel where Masonic Rites were conducted at 7:00 PM.  The funeral service will be at Maggards Mountain View Chapel this morning, Wednesday, February 20, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Campbell,  Willis Ray -a resident of The Villages, Florida, passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 30.  At the time of his death, Mr. Campbell was 61 years of age.  A native of Hazard, he was a graduate of the M.C. Napier High School.  Mr. Campbell was the son of Mabel Campbell Wells of Hazard and the late Arel Campbell. He retired from General Motors Corp. after 30 years as a General Supervisor with the automobile manufacturing company.  Upon his retirement, he and his wife moved from Waterford, Michigan, to Florida in 1998.  Mr. Campbell was a member of the United Methodist Church. Along with his mother, Mabel Campbell Wells of Hazard, he is survived by his wife, C.C. Campbell of The Villages, Florida; his brother, Eugene Campbell of Louisville, Kentucky, and his two sisters, Wilma Lee Campbell and Karen Lynn Smith, both residents of Hazard.  He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. The family received friends on Saturday evening, February 2, at The Bryers Funeral Chapel in Lady Lake, Florida, where the funeral service was conducted on Sunday afternoon, February 3, at 2:00 PM.  Interment was at The Forrest Lawn Memory Gardens in Ocala, Florida. Carmack, Lewis -born March 22, 1950 in Upper Second Creek, departed this life on Friday, July 25 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. He was 58 years, four months and three days of age at the time of his passing. He was the son of the late Jeff and Nola Lee Carmack, and by occupation he was retired from the Kentucky Power Company. He enjoyed deer hunting and was a member of the Christopher Church of God. He was preceded in death by one brother, Dean Carmack. He leaves the following relatives surviving: wife, Peggy Carmack of Hazard; son Jason Carmack of Geneva, Oh.; step son Franklin of Lexington; sister Glenna Stone and husband Larry of Geneva; grandchildren Leah, Preston, Dusty, and Kirstin; nieces Jessica and Megan; and two great nieces and one great nephew; and special friend Sam Whitaker. He is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted on Monday, July 28 at the Engle-Walker Funeral Home in Hazard with Rev. Fred S. Ballard officiating. Carpenter, Paul -born June 26, 1953 at Chicago, Il., departed this life on Sunday, October 19 at his residence at Bonnyman. At the time of his passing he was 53 years, three months and 23 days of age. By occupation he was a mechanic. He is preceded in death by his father, John C. Carpenter and brother Johnny Carpenter. He is survived by his mother, Carol June Sampsell of Bonnyman; wife Mary Jo Carpenter of Bonnyman; son Joshua Paul Riley of Grapevine; daughters Tina Shannon and Bret of Chicago, Flo Napier and Waylon of Jackson; Tasha Marie Hernandez and Arnold of Grapevine, Candace Carpenter of Bonnyman, Megan Carpenter of Bonnyman; brothers Darrell Carpenter of Tennessee and Roger Sampsell of Bonnyman; sisters Susie Salisbury of Virginia and Rhonda Whitaker of Bonnyman and six grandchildren also survive. The funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, October 22 at 11 a.m. at the Engle-Walker Perry County Chapel of Hazard with Rev. Dean DeMaris officiating. Carroll, Esther Bernice Oliver -affectionately known as “Aunt Bernice” of Centre, Al. passed away Monday, July 28. “Aunt Bernice” was born March 20, 1917 in Hazard to the late William White and Opsie Davidson Oliver. She graduated from nursing school as a registered nurse in 1945 and retired from Industrial Nursing with International Paper in Panama City, Fl. in 1981. She was an advocate of volunteer service in community and served with AARP, Widowed Persons Services and the American Red Cross for many years after retiring. She is preceded in death by her husband Benson James Carroll. She is survived by three children Barbara Rich of Cushing, Ok.; Belinda Pringle of Centre and one son, Benson James Carroll II of Carmel Valley, Ca.; four grandchildren, Andrew Barron Jackson III of Tampa, Fl.; Brian David Jackson of Jacksonville, Fl.; Carroll Deahl Wilson of Peachtree City, Ga.; Michael Rich of Knoxville, Tn.; two great granddaughters, Madelyn Nichole Jackson of Jacksonville and Claire Elizabeth Wilson of Peachtree City. The funeral service was held Saturday, August 2 at the Union Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Christopher Padgett officiating. Caudill, Charles "Doodle"-of Linefork passed away on  Friday, January 18, at the Hazard A.R.H. emergency room. He died from injuries  in a one-vehicle accident at Cornettsville. He is survived by his mother,  Zelma Presley and his children, Jessica Lynn Caudill, Jason Wayne and Joshua  Charles Caudill, all of Indiana. His surviving siblings are Saundra Elaine  Johnson of Lexington, Diana Gail Johnson of Kite, Kathy Denise Hale of Blackey,  Donna Faye Underwood of Indiana, Rickey Allen Caudill, Kim Elmer Caudill and  Ronnie B. Caudill, all of Indiana. He is also survived by one grandchild as well  as his former wife, Carlene Caudill, a resident of Indiana. The family  received friends on Monday evening, January 21, at the Cedar Grove Old Regular  Baptist Church in Linefork where the funeral service was held on Tuesday  afternoon with Chad Campbell officiating. Caudill, Jeffrey Allen “Jeff” -40, of Franklin, passed away Thursday, October 30. He was born on August 30, 1968 in Franklin, In. to French and Mary Magdalene “Maggie” (Burgett) Caudill. He married Susan (Blankenship) Caudill on August 6, 1994. He was a 1986 graduate of Franklin Community High School and a 1990 gradate of Rose Hulman Institute of Technology. He was employed by Ford Motor Company, division of Visteon for many years as a maintenance planning specialist. He was a member of Franklin Memorial Christian Church. He was a coach for his daughter’s soccer team and basketball coach with the Sports and Recreation Ministry program at Franklin Memorial. He loved bass fishing and was a member of the BFL Fishing League. He was  a loyal Kentucky Wildcat fan. Rev. Caudill, Rudd -born March 22, 1944, departed this life on Wednesday, August 27 at his residence in Hazard. He was 64 years, five months and five days of age at the time of his passing. He was born in Hazard, the son of the late Leslie Caudill and the late Christobel Caudill. He was a life long resident of Perry County and was a member of the New Hope Christian Center and enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Chapman, Dewey ~ age 73, of Happy, Kentucky, passed away August 26, 2010, at the Select Specialty Hospital at Lexington. He was born in Perry County on November 16, 1936, to Ben Chapman and Nola R. Bevins Chapman. He is survived by sons: Thomas (Teresa) Chapman and Dewey (Valerie) Chapman; daughters: Teresa Amburgey and Paula Chapman; sister: Polly Ann Mullins; 4 grandchildren and a special nephew: Kyle Cummins. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 30, 2010, at the Happy Freewill Baptist Church with Densmore Goodson, Jack Carter and Steve Haddix officiating. Burial followed at Rest Haven Cemetery at Jeff under the direction of Hindman Funeral Services.

Childers, Foist Napier ~ Age 73 of Middletown, OH passed away March 17, 2009 at Atrium Medical Center. She was born October 14, 1935 in Blue Diamond, KY to parents Johnny Napier and Siller Bailey Napier. Foist, known as "Sweet Pea" to her friends was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion and DAV. She was a volunteer for Hospice for several years caring for and spending time with many terminally ill people. She will be truly missed by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Brenda Barker and brothers Finley Napier and Kenneth Napier. She is survived by her husband of 56 years Jasper Childers; sons, Ricky Childers, Steven Childers and wife Helen, and Jon David Childers; sisters, Dorothy and husband Ed Wooten, and Mary and husband Gary Combs; brother, Harold and wife Marian Napier. Foist also had 5 grandchildren, Christopher Brady, Monica and husband Aaron Crout, Steven and wife Cyndy Childers, Brian and wife Michelle Childers, and Tabitha Childers; 4 great-grandchildren, Brooke Rowland, Kyla Rowland, Cameron Childers and Brian Childers; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 12:00 noon March 21, 2009 at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home with Reverend Back officiating. He is survived by  his wife, Lois Church; sons Curtis Church and Roscoe Dwayne Church; sisters  Hazel McCarthy and Shirley Slaven; brothers Bethel Church, Abner Church, E.W.  Slaven and Corbett Slaven. Clemons, Bill - passed away after a short illness on  Sunday, January 13, at the Hazard A.R.H. Hospital. He was a resident of  Hardshell, and at the time of his death he was 63 years of age. He was preceded  in death by his parents, Urban and Irene Noble Clemons. The U.S. Army Vietnam  War veteran was a former employee of Arch on the North Fork, and at the time of  his death was a Public Defender for the Kentucky Justice Cabinet in Eastern  Kentucky. He is survived by his daughter, Wanda Faye and husband Greg  Hardin of Jackson; his son, Randall Scott Clemons of Hardshell as well as two  sisters, Judy Hudson and Gilla Ann Miller, both of Hardshell. He was the  grandfather of Greg Hardin, Jr., Shawn Cody Hardin and Branden Scott Hardin. He  is also survived by a special friend, Cathy Moreland. Clemons, Ella Ruth ~ 51, of Hazard, passed away Sunday, March 29 at the  Hazard ARH medical center. She was a former teacher for many years in Perry and  Leslie Counties. She was the daughter of the late David W. Begley and  Jean Roark Begley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Crawford  Clemons. She is survived by sisters Marsha and Eddie Estridge, Vicki and  James Boggs, and Cindi and Dale Williams; brother Dane Begley; seven nieces,  four nephews, and a host of family and friends. Cochran, James Austin "The Brownie Man" - 85, of Georgetown, OH died June 16, 2008 at Brown County General Hospital, in Georgetown, OH. He was a retired engineer from Vought Air Craft Industries, a United State Army World War II veteran, was part of the European Theater of Operations, a Kentucky Colonel, member of the Carey Bavis American Legion Post 180, the Sam R. HamiltonMasonic Lodge 1031 in Grand Prairie, Texas; the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Cincinnati, VFW and Shriners. Mr. Cochran was born June 6, 1923 in Combs, KY, the son of the late Samuel and America Tyler Cochran. He was also preceded in death by one son, James Cochran; three brothers, Nathan, Carl W. and Edward C. Cochran; and three sisters, Mazie Cochran, Marie Rosie Baker and Juanita Molly Helton. He is survived by his wife, Merena Mae Vice Cochran of Georgetown, OH; one daughter, Melinda Cochran of Highland County, OH; one son, John Austin Cochran of IA; several grandchildren; one brother, William Bud Cochran of Bethel, OH; one sister, Creta Fay Bowling of Amelia, OH; and several nieces and nephews. He was a retired pipefitter and enjoyed antiquing and photography. Colwell, Della Sue -the wife of Billy Ray Colwell, passed away on Friday, March 14, at the Crestwood Medical Center in Athens, Alabama.  At the time of her death, she was sixty-two years of age.  The daughter of the late Jack and Ella Whitt, she was also preceded in death by her son, Terry Wayne Colwell and three brothers, Jackie, Alvin and Claude Whitt.  Mrs. Colwell, who was a homemaker, was a member of the Krypton Brethren Church and the Krypton Eastern Star. Along with her husband, Billy Ray Colwell of Athens, Alabama, she is survived by their son, Harvey and wife Denise Colwell of Chavies; daughters Leann and husband Bob Reed, Jr. of Athens, Alabama, and Faith Colwell of Ontario, California; five brothers, Isiah Whitt of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kermit Whitt of Goshen, Ohio, Cecil Whitt of Batavia, Ohio, McCellon Whitt of Newport News, Virginia and Fallon Whitt of Colorado Springs, Colorado; eleven grandchildren, Kyle, Chalyn, Brittany, Erica, James, Robin, Desirae, Sarah, Kim, Andrew, Dayna and Della Sue.  She is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends. Colwell, Nancy Riley -age 58, went home to be with our father, on July 23, 2008. She was born January 1, 1950 in Hazard, KY the daughter of Warren G. and Marie (Edwards) Riley. On October 15, 1967 she married James E. Colwell and he preceded her in death on October 9, 2006. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed crocheting, riding horses, playing softball and spending time with her family. Her grandchildren loved and adored her, especially their visits together. Nancy is survived by her daughter, Angie Colwell who was her care taker for the past 6 years, dear friend, Rick Byrd, grandchildren, Callie Marie Byrd, Jeremy Byrd, 2 grandsons, Kevin Matthew Knuckles, Christopher James Knuckles, his fiancée Jill Campbell; daughter, Barb (Rick) Marcum; grandchildren Ryan, Justin, and Nick Marcum, Bradley, Braden, and Alyssa Martin; her only son, James Edward Colwell, Jr, his fiancée Samantha, and their daughter Christian Jade Ann Colwell; 5 siblings and many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by Ron Shuler and 4 siblings who also loved her dearly. Combs, Arlie -82, of Massillon, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008 at Aultman Hospital following a period of declining health. He was born in Ary, Ky. on Dec. 10, 1925 to the late Estill and Eliza Mae (Grigsby) Combs and had lived most of his life near Massillon.  He retired in 1985 from the former Union Drawn Division of Republic Steel and had attended Calvary Baptist Church in Moffit Heights.  He was a WWII Army Air Corp Veteran having served in the European Theater as a nose gunner on a B-24 Bomber.  He was a former member of the Tuslaw Lions Club. On Dec. 30, 1950, he married Alberta Jane Strunk.  She died July 27, 1992. He is survived by nine children, Wayne (Lisa) Combs of Greenville, Dale Combs and Linda Jane Combs, both of Massillon, Dianne (Ron) Mohn of North Lawrence, Steven (Linda) Combs of Orrville, Adrian (Gail) Combs and Douglas (Karen) Combs, both of Stanwood, Michael Combs of Dalton and Jeffrey (Debbie) Combs of Columbus; 29 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; two sisters, Irene (Jerry) Eversole of Scottsburg, IN and Beulah J. “BJ” Rudy of Wooster; his companion, Clara Brugh of Massillon; and his faithful dog, Puggy. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Peggy Combs; and two sisters, Izo Lyttle and Eula Remenaric. Combs, Audrey -born February 29, 1920 at Buckhorn, Ky., departed this life on Friday, June 27 at Hazard Nursing Home. At the time of her passing she was 88 years, three months and 28 days of age. By occupation, Audrey was a houseparent at the Buckhorn Children’s Center. She was a member of the Buckhorn Presbyterian Church, a member of the Eastern Star and a red hat in the Ladies Auxiliary. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Eller Webb Wooton; husband Chester Combs; sons Elmer, Clyde, Lester, Clinton, Mike, J.C. and Wayne; daughters Ada, Gladys and Betty. Audrey leaves the following relatives surviving: sons Roland Combs and Peggy of Hamilton, Ohio and Sherman Combs and Rosie and Cynthiana, Ky.; daughter Veda Wooton and Pat of Buckhorn. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren along with a host of other relatives and friends that will be left behind to mourn her passing. Combs, Beulah Mae Tallon Wilhoit -age 83, of Middletown, OH died July 16, 2008 at her residence. She was born May 4, 1925 in Hardburly, KY, the daughter of Robert Tallon and Reva (Lumpkins) Tallon. Beulah was a very spiritual lady and a tremendous mother who never turned down her children for any of their needs. She loved ministering to the sick. She was part founder of the Central Avenue Mission and a very charitable person, a mother to all the folks at the mission. She is survived by four sons, Billy Wayne (wife, Carol) Wilhoit of Dillsboro, IN, David (wife, Connie Kay) Wilhoit of Middletown, OH, Kenneth Darrell (wife, Carla Jean) Wilhoit of Middletown, Donald Eugene (wife, Patty) Wilhoit of Middletown; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and two brothers, William Gene (wife, Annette) Tallon of Denver, CO and Robert (wife, Donna) Tallon of Middletown. Combs, Elizabeth Stacy ~ 82, of Enon, OH passed away in Springfield, OH on August 19, 2009.  She was born to James and Matilda Stacy on November 3, 1927 in Perry County, KY. On May 31, 1952 Elizabeth married Olvin Combs, who she was happily married to for 57 years. Elizabeth attended Miami Valley United Baptist Church in Fairborn, OH. She retired from General Motors after 30 years and greatly enjoyed sewing. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Patricia Combs of Springfield, OH; one granddaughter and her husband, Tracy and Eddie Owens and four great-grandchildren, Cameron, Alexis, Levie, and Little Eddie.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and nine siblings. Funeral Services will be held on August 22, 2009 in Adkins Funeral Home, 7055 Dayton-Springfield Road, Enon, OH at 11 a.m., officiated by Elder Eugene Wells.  Visitation will be an hour prior to the service in the funeral home beginning at 10 a.m.

Combs,Geneva ~ 91, of Viper, passed away Tuesday, March 24 at the Hazard ARH medical center. She was the daughter of the late Cal King and the late Fannie Holland.  She was also preceded in death by three husbands - Melvin Keith, Spencer Banks,  and Watson Combs; son Joe Keith, two sisters, and three brothers. She is  survived by daughters Helen Ducey, Yvone Pennington, Patsy Sue Craft, and  Patricia Ann Rice; son Russell Keith; sister Marcelene Freeman; 22  grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 21 great great  grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel  of Hazard. The visitation was held at the Happy Freewill Baptist Church on  Thursday, March 26. The funeral service was at the church on Friday, March 27  with Rev. Rodney Smith and Rev. Jody Maggard officiating. Combs, George -who was born on November 8, 1918, passed away on Thursday, February 28, being eighty-nine years of age at the time of his death.  He was born in Alais, the son of Richard and Ellen Combs.  A retired employee of the Perry County Board of Education, Mr. Combs was a United States Army Veteran of World War II.  He was preceded in death by his parents.Mr. Combs is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Geneva Combs of Hazard; three sons, Harold Eugene Combs of Hindman, Ricky Combs of Hazard and Adam and wife Cora Combs of Hazard.  He is also survived by four daughters, Hopie Linda and husband Larry Jones of Indianapolis, Indiana, Loretta and husband Roger Colvin of Lexington, Johnnie Faye Turner of Hazard and Carolyn and husband Shelby Ritchie of Talcum.  His surviving siblings are Leonard Combs of Muncie, Indiana, Hershel Combs of Second Creek, Jimmy Lynn Combs of South Carolina, Cornie Howard of Second Creek, Eula Mae Combs of Ary, Ollie Marcum of Muncie, Indiana and Veda Herald.  Other survivors are his twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren as well as one-great-grandchil d and one the way, along with a host of other relatives and friends.The funeral service for Mr. Combs was conducted at the Engle-Walker Funeral Home at 11:00 AM on Saturday morning, March 1, with Rev. Pete Youmans and Rev. Bob Bowling officiating.  The burial was at the Mt. Memory Garden Cemetery in Hindman. All arrangements were entrusted to the staff of the Engle-Walker Funeral Home.

Combs, Gladys  ~ 93, of Versailles, a native of  Hazard, passed away Friday, February 13 at Taylor Manor Nursing Home in  Versailles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Combs and  daughter-in-law Marla Combs. She is survived by her daughter, Lois Dean  and Wendell Combs; son Aubrey Combs; six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren  and special family friend Kendall Cosby. Combs, Harold "Hal" Cardwell -age 85 of Middletown, OH passed away August 25, 2008 at the Atrium Medical Center. He was born July 27, 1923 in Hazard, KY, the son of Wilgus Combs and Mattie (Howard) Combs. Hal graduated from Middletown High School and attended the Dayton Art Institute. He was a veteran serving in Europe during World War II. He was a commercial artist and founded what was once the only sign company in the area, Miami Sign Company. He provided many years of fun for all ages when he built and operated Skateway Roller Rink and the haunted Horror House. Many will remember him for the Tropical Inn or enjoyed eating at Coney Castle, Five Star BBQ or you may have been a follower of his Louisiana Fry Wagon. He loved all his children and enjoyed spending time with them. Hal had a big soft heart for all animals. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him. He is survived by four sons, Keith (wife, Maria) Combs, Kent (wife, Gloria) Combs, Rex (wife, Tammy)  Combs, Kurt Combs; two daughters, Candy (husband, Larry) Walters, and Amy Combs; grandchildren, Bryan (wife, Mary) Bowman, Chris, Eric, Sarah, Max, and Samantha (husband, Chris), Casey and Coty Combs, Shawn Marshall; and two great grandchildren, Nora and Holly. Combs, Harriette Adams ~ 89, of Hazard, passed away Thursday, April 16. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Nan Adams of Letcher  County; sister Judy Belle of Harlan; brother Johnny Adams of North Carolina and  husband Nin C. Combs of Hazard. She is survived by nephews Leslie and  Audrey Rogers and Gene Hurst Combs. Harriette graduated from Stuart  Robinson High School in Letcher County and went on to attend Montreat College, a  Christian Liberal-Arts college located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North  Carolina. Along with her husband, Nin, she operated Combs Jewelry Store  on Main Street in Hazard for many years. A memorial service will be held  on May 9 at 4 p.m. at Hull Presbyterian Church, Darb Fork, Ky. Funeral  services were held Monday, April 27 at the Engle-Walker Funeral Home of Hazard  with Rev. Carl Wayne Johnson officiating. The burial followed in the Baker  Cemetery located at Grassy, Ky. Combs, Judy Guffey -age 64 of Hamilton, OH passed away at Mercy Hospital of Fairfield on December 11, 2008. She was born in Hazard, KY on January 1, 1944 the daughter of Hollis and Sophie (Hamilton) Guffey. Judy was co-owner and operator of E&J Enterprises for the past 15 years. She is survived by one daughter, Pamela (James) Saylor of Hamilton, OH; three brothers, Don (Judy) Guffey and Jim (Sybil) Guffey, both of Hamilton and Paul (Helen) Guffey of Fairfield, OH; two grandchildren, Steven and Kayleigh, both of Hamilton; devoted companion and partner, Enrique Sanjuan of Hamilton; numerous nieces and nephews, including a special thank you to Rhonda Hall and Teresa Anders; and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Jean Burns. Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Monday, December 15, 2008 at 7:00 PM with Pastor Mike Luzecky of Covenant Life Church officiating. Burial will be in held in Hazard,  KY on December 18, 2008. Visitation will be held December 15, 2008 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Combs, Justine E. -born November 6, 1926, departed this life on Saturday, July 5 at the Hazard ARH Medical Center. She was 81 years, seven months and 29 days of age at the time of her passing. She was born at Kodak, Ky., the daughter of the late William Eversole and the late Elizabeth Madden Eversole. By occupation she was a store manager at the Martin’s Department Store in Vicco, Ky. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl H. Combs; daughter Elizabeth “Betty” Combs and half-sister Gladys Thornsberry. She leaves the following relatives surviving: stepmother Mary Eversole of Vicco; sons Glenn H. Combs of Lexington, Ky., Curtis Combs of Paris, Ky. and William S. Combs of Vicco; sister Christine Daniels of Nancy, Ky.; half-brother Lynn Eversole of Viper; grandchildren Kelly Combs and Holly Combs. She is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, July 8 at the Engle-Walker Funeral Home located in Hazard, Ky. with Ronnie Grigsby C.L.P. officiating. Combs, Lanny -70, of Hazard, who practiced law for 37 years, died on Thursday at the U.K. Hospital in Lexington. He was the former Perry County Attorney and Commonwealth's Attorney. Lanny was one of four children born to Tolbert and Aline Ballard Combs. Lanny's father also served as County Attorney and Commonwealth's Attorney. Lanny attended Walkertown Grade School, Hazard High School, Georgetown College, and Eastern Kentucky University. In 1957 he married Freda Melton, the daughter of Bill and Ethel Melton. After graduating from Eastern he worked two years as tax auditor for the State. He then went to work for the Social Security Administration. In 1971 he transferred from Hazard to the Social Security branch in Louisville. He attended the University of Louisville Law School at night and was able to get his degree in three and a half years. Four months out of law school he went into private practice. In 1976 Combs became the Kentucky Commonwealth's Attorney in Perry County and he served in the office for six years. In 1986 Governor Martha Layne Collins appointed him Ambassador of Good Will. In 1988 he was appointed ABC Commissioner in Frankfort by Governor Wallace Wilkinson. In November of 1999 Combs was elected to the office of Perry County Attorney. He was assistant Commonwealth's Attorney under Steve Tackett and worked a year under his father who was Commonwealth's Attorney. In 1999 when President Clinton visited Hazard, the secret service took over Lanny's office and converted it into their command post. Lanny once said he would liked to be remembered for having made a lot of friends and for being a good husband, father, and grandfather. Lanny Combs is survived by his wife Freda, one daughter - Lana Rose, one son - Roland, one sister - Linda Combs, and one brother - Leslie Combs, and three grandchildren. Mallie attended Westboro Pentecostal Church in Clinton County (OH). She is survived by a son, Jeff (Racheal) McClain of Mt. Olivet, KY; a daughter, Angela K. (Mark) Burns of Seattle, WA; a brother, Larry Combs of Hamilton, OH; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. Mallie will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by 3 sons: Jessie (Brenda) Combs, Bert (Patricia) Combs and Danny (Connie) Combs; 2 daughters: Mabel (Scott) Combs and Shelia (Kyle) Fugate; grandchildren: Jesse James, Bill, Krystal, Mark, Bill Daniel, Frank James, Hope, Amanda, Tawyna, Christopher, Loretta, Jeffrey and Marcy; great grandchildren: Dalton, Dayton, Dillion, Justin, Shyan, Treston, Raven, Rayanne, Meghan Reese and Peyton; host of nieces and nephews.  Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at the Philadelphia Primitive Baptist Church with Randy Combs and Johnny Patrick officiating. She was a life-long resident of Perry County and was preceded in death by two brothers, Gillis and Robin Darrell Thacker, and one sister, Nancy Ross. Combs, Mary C, 95, widow of Dr. Ballard F. Combs, passed away Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. She lived most of her married life in the Chevy Chase area of Lexington, and most recently resided in the Richmond Place retirement community. Born in Piqua, OH, Mrs. Combs lived on a number of farms in the region as a young girl, and she attended high school in Sidney, OH. She completed her training as a registered nurse at Deaconess Hospital in Cincinnati. Mrs. Combs was active in community health service during the flood of 1937 in Cincinnati. She met her future husband, who was a medical student at the University of Cincinnati. Following their marriage, the couple settled in Lexington where Dr. Combs began his career as a general practitioner. Mrs. Combs was a long-time member of Second Presbyterian Church where she served earlier as a Deacon. She participated in the Women's Club of Central Kentucky. Other community activities included serving as a meals-on-wheels volunteer and membership in bridge and garden clubs. She is survived by her four sons, Philip, North Bethesda, MD, James, Prestonsburg, KY, Kenneth, New Orleans and Byron, Kansas City, MO; 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death in 1992. Services 11am Sat at Milward Mortuary-Broadway with burial in Lexington Cemetery. Friends may call Sat from 9:30 until service time. Combs, Pearl Huff -the widow of George Curtis Combs, departed this life on February 1, in Decatur, Georgia.  At the time of her death, Mrs. Combs,  who was born on May 16, 1905 in Leslie County,  was 102 years of age.  Mrs. Combs was a retired nurse.  She was a member of Hazard First Baptist Church.  She had also been a member of the Eastern Star where she was a former Worthy Matron, and she was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club.  She also enjoyed her hobby of quilting.  Along with her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, Irvine and Alice Farler Huff and five brothers and sisters. Mrs. Combs is survived by her daughter, Imogene Fugate of Decatur, Georgia; her sister, Connie Hess of Indiana; her granddaughter,  Jane Thorpe and husband Wayne of Atlanta, Georgia, and her great-grandchildren , Scott Curtis Thorpe of Washington, D.C. and Sara Page Thorpe of Oxford, Ohio.  She is also survived by a host of friends and other relatives. Visitation will be held this morning, Wednesday, February 6, starting at 10:00 AM at Hazard First Baptist Church where the funeral service will be conducted this afternoon at 1:00 PM with Rev. Gene Huff officiating.  The burial will take place at the Englewood Cemetery at Christopher. Born April 23, 1925, in Rowdy, KY, she was the daughter of Andy and Delilah (Allen) Noble. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence Combs, in 1994; and son, Harold Combs. Combs, Thomas Hiram -age 68, of Hazard, KY., died Satuday, Oct. 25, 2008 at Hazard ARH in Hazard. He was the son of the late James Combs and the late Margaret Lowe Combs. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Combs; four daughters, Barbara Pinyan, Joy Ingram, Megan Combs and Chris Moore; two sons, Everett Combs and Sam Moore; one sister, Bernadean Collins; six grandchildren, Thomas Hughes, Latasha Warren, Austin Ingram, Tanner Combs, Braeden Combs and Dylan Pinyan; and two great-grandchildren, Adams and Aiden Mitchell. Combs, Ronald William David ~ age 48, of Dayton, OH departed this life on March 3, 2009. He was a native of Hazard, KY and a lifelong resident of Dayton. He was a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) with a degree in Engineering and a 1978 graduate of John H. Patterson Cooperative High School. He was employed with GM as a WEMR Skills Tradesman (Robotics) following fifteen years of service. He is preceded in death by his father, James E. Combs Sr.; grandmother, Josie Hollis; mother, Anna B. Conway, Janet -born April 30, 1959, departed this life on Thursday, July 31 at the Hazard ARH Regional Medical Center. At the time of her passing she was 49 years, three months and one day of age. She had been a resident of Perry County for the past 35 years, and by occupation she was the store owner of Jan and Cora’s Grocery. Born on September 5, 1934 in Hazard, KY to Herman and Mary (nee: Adams) Ashley, she lived for her husband, just as her husband lives for her. Cooper, Claude Vernon  III, 60, passed away on Friday, December 12 at  home. C.V., as he was better known in the community, was born April 7,  1948 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington. He was a 1966 graduate of Hazard  High School. He attended the University of Kentucky and Lees Junior  College. Mr. Cooper is survived by his mother, Nell Evans Cooper; sister  Nancy Cooper
Terry and Ken of Munford, Tn.; daughter Rose Michelle Cooper Fields  and Kelly; grandchildren Morgan Faith Cooper Johnson and Griffin Kelly Fields;  niece Margaret Ellen Terry, of Munford; and nephew Robert Vernon Terry, also of  Munford; aunts and uncles Cynthia E. McIntyre of Hazard, Ross and Nancy Eckert  of Tucson, Az., Dick and Jenny Cooper of Lexington and Salah M. Hassanein of  Delmar, Ca. C.V. was also survived by 14 first cousins and one special cousin,  Margaret (Margo) Adams of Hazard.
He was preceded in death by his father,  Claude Vernon Cooper, Jr. and his sister, Clarine Elizabeth  Cooper. Cornett, James Forrest -born March 11, 1932 at Dwarf, departed this life on Sunday, October 19 at his residence. At the time of his passing he was 76 years, seven months and eight days of age. He was a graduate of Robinson High School in 1950. He then graduated from Lees Junior College in Jackson in 1952. He married his wife Alice in 1953 and entered the U.S. Navy and served as a medical corpsman during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956. Upon returning home, he graduated from  Eastern Kentucky University in 1958. He earned his masters degree from EKU in 1960 and received a Rank I at EKU in 1970. He was a teacher and administrator in the Perry County School System for 34 years. He served as an elementary teacher in 1952, as a secondary teacher from 1958-1959, as an elementary principal at Robinson Elementary from 1959-1973, as an assistant superintendent from 1973-1985. He served as Perry County's first director of special education, nurturing the services from one teacher to a successful district wide program. He also served as an administrator for Jenkins Independent Schools for five years. He was a dedicated member of the Dwarf Baptist Church for 64 years, from 1944-2008. He was a deacon there for 41 years, from 1967-2008. He also taught Sunday school at Dwarf for 52 years, from 1956-2008. He was also a dedicated member of the Perry County Chapter of Gideons International. He served as a Gideon for 34 years from 1974-2008. He was also a very proud member of the Perry County Retired Teachers Association. He is preceded in death by his parents, Austin and Maude Cornett; his granddaughter Traci Lynn Cornett; brothers Willis and Troy Cornett and sister Tisha Shelton.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mrs. Alice Cornett of Dwarf; sons Robert Cornett of Dwarf, Glenn Cornett and Anita of Dwarf, Anthony Cornett and Becky of Greenup, Ky.; daughters Kathy Eversole and Steve of London; Connie Jones and Luther of Dwarf; brother Roy Cornett of Bellbrook, Ohio; sisters Ailene Fizer of Dwarf and Nannie Conley of Dwarf; grandchildren Tashia and husband Jason, Bryanna, Kristi, Jonathan, Allison, Curtis, Austin, Brittany, Cody; and great grandchild Dakota Noble. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 22 at 11 a.m. at Engle-Walker Funeral Home of Hazard with Rev. Randy Combs officiating. Cornett, Jerry -48, husband of Robin Fritts Cornett, died Mon, Sept 1, 2008 after a long illness.  Raised in Linefork, Ky., he was a son of the late Evan and Isiebelle Daniels Cornett.  He was a transformer specialist for American Electric Power for 25 years and dabbled with digital media when he was unable to work. In addition to his wife of 28 years, he is survived by his children, Autumn (Josh) Hardy, Austin Cornett, Alexia Cornett and Aithan Cornett, all of Lexington; grandchildren, Xander and Xavier Hardy; siblings, Arvil Cornett, Daisy Coleman, Estill Cornett, Darrell Cornett, Cleda McClintock, Wanda Gaul, Ola Bobik, Sharon Hayward and Terry Cornett.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Cornett.

Cornett, Talmage Tyler -the husband of Elizabeth Cornett passed away on Wednesday, January 30, at the Hazard A.R.H. Hospital.  At the time of his death, Mr. Cornett was 68 years of age.  The son of the late R.T. and Mary Lois Cornett, he was also preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Dennis and Lenora Cornett. Along with his widow, he is survived by two daughters, Allison and husband Lynn Mullins and Catherine A. and husband Ronnie Bentley and one son, Tyler Andres and wife Linda Cornett, all residents of Hazard.  He is also survived by two sisters; Eileen Haddix and Cheri Norris, three grandchildren; Colby, Tyler and Landry, his step-mother, Mary Lois Cornett and a special friend, Joe Goodlette. The family received from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Friday, February 1, at Maggard Brothers Funeral Home where the funeral service was conducted on Friday afternoon with Rev. Ellen Peach and Rev. Cosimini, Jerald Hugh -of Chillicothe, Ohio, passed away on Monday in Lancaster, Ohio.  At the time of his death, he was 33 years of age.  A native of Corbin, he was born on December 18, 1974, to Alice Johnson Cosimini and Alfred Hugh Cosimini, Jr. Along with his parents, he is survived by his wife, Jennifer Cosimini, his children; Kelsey Jean Honeycutt Cosimini, Cooper Jameson Cosimini, Grace McKenzie Throne and Lisa Jane Throne.  He is also survived by his sister, Candis Robyn Cosimini Fugate, his grandfathers; Russell Johnson and Al Cosimini, his brother-in-law, Steven Fugate; nieces and nephew,  Alyssa and Kylie Fugate and Evan and Emma Gregory; his father-in-law, Ben Huston; his mother-in-law Glenda Huston and his sister-in-law, Julie Huston and a host of aunts and uncles. Couch, D.C. -born May 13, 1930, departed this life on Saturday, October 4 at the Hazard ARH Medical Center. He was 78 years, four months and 21 days of age at the time of his passing. He was a volunteer fireman with the Avawam Fire Department, and a member of the Perry County Mountain Firefighters Association. He was also a member of the Hazard Masonic Lodge. She is survived by her daughter Barbara and Hiram Ferguson; son Robert and Kathy Cox; grandchildren Jayne Campbell, Bradley Cox, Clinton Cox and Sarah Cornett; great grandchildren Brandi Campbell, Brooke Campbell, Emma Danielle Cox, Martin Meade Cox and Ava Grace Cornett. Arrangements are being handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel of Hazard where the family will receive friends Wednesday, September 17 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. The funeral service will be at the chapel on Wednesday, September 17 at 1 p.m. with A.D. Cress, Beulah “Tootsie” -72, of Delphia, passed away Thursday, September 18 at the Hazard ARH Regional Medical Center. Ms. Cress was a native of Delphia and had lived there all her life. She was a retired postmaster of Delphia and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy. She was an active church worker most of her life and worked in the community helping others as long as she was able. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harrison and Clarissa Hall Cress and a brother, Bruce. Survivors include a brother, Bill of Elizabethtown, In.; one aunt, one uncle; three nieces; three nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation was held Saturday, September 20 at Tri City Funeral Home in Benham. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, September 21 in the chapel of Tri City Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Combs officiating. Interment followed in Whispering Pines Cemetery located at Delphia. Cress, Harrison -65, of Slemp, passed away Wednesday, September 3 at his residence. He is survived by one daughter, Teresa Wells of Slemp; son Harrison Cress, Jr. and wife Jocelyn of Slemp; brothers Ellis DeHart of Wooton, Ky., Chester Cress of Delphia, Ky. and Delmer DeHart of Slemp, Ky. Other survivors include five grandchildren and one great grandchild. The visitation was held Friday, September 5 at the Church of Lord Jesus Christ in Slemp. The funeral service was conducted at the church on Saturday, September 6. Burial took place at Cornett Cemetery in Beechfork, Ky. Brashear-Callahan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Cusick, William -72, of Bulan, died Thursday, October 28 at the Hazard ARH Medical Center. He is survived by his beloved partner, Mary Sweet; daughters Suzanne Paul, Kathleen Lewis and Shannon Lynne Campbell; step-daughter Pamela Watts; sons Williams “Bill” Cusick, Jr., Johnny Cusick and Jerry Cusick; step-sons Marcus, Ricky, Roger and Randy Sweet; sisters Irene Spaulding and Lillian Mudd; and brother James Cusick. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, one great grandchild, seven step grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by Maggard Mountain View Chapel where the family received friends on Friday, October 31.
