Gabbard, Kenneth “Gabby” -age 57, of Marion, Il., passed away at 3:25 a.m. on Sunday, July 6, 2008, at his home. He was born in Hazard, Ky., on May 2, 1951, the son of Matt and Hettie Anita (Russell) Gabbard. Kenneth was a graduate of Dilce Combs High School of Jeff, Ky,. located near Hazard. His working career was with the Bureau of Prisons Department of Justice at the United States Penitentiary of Marion, Il. as a correctional officer for 20 years and 3 days until his retirement in 2002.He was a member of the Illinois Police Association and the American Federation of Government Employees Local Union #2343.Kenneth enjoyed collecting coins, playing cards and was an avid golfer. He also was a coupon clipper and the amount of money he would save by using the coupons he would buy additional food and donate to the needy. He collected for many charities and people who had a need. Kenneth will be remembered as a giving person and one who made a difference in the lives of many. Now those left behind will cherish all the many memories that have been created by having known him. He is survived by three sisters and two brothers-in- law; Mattie C. Spencer of Murphysboro, IL, Betty and Charles Vaile of Herrin, IL and Freda Faye and Jim Wiseman of Hazard, KY; three brothers and three sisters-in-law, Ernest and Charlotte Cornett of Marion, IL, James and Bonnie Gabbard of Lewisville, TX and John R. and Etta Gabbard of Hazard, KY; special friend of 26 plus years, LaDonna Waldron of Herrin, IL; sister-in-law, Janice Gabbard of Nashville, TN, a host of nieces, nephews, other extended family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ernestine Melton in 1985; two brothers, Theo Gabbard in 2006 and Carl Michael Gabbard in 2002, and his nephew, Jonathon Gabbard.
Arrangements for Kenneth “Gabby” Gabbard have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court St., Marion, IL 62959.  The visitation for the family and friends will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9th at the funeral home. Garten, Billie McGhee -Age 67 of Hamilton, OH entered the Kingdom of Heaven from her home on June 17, 2008. She was born in Hazard, KY on June 15, 1941 the daughter of Memphis and Thelma Juanita (Lethgo) McGhee. Billie was employed in the dietary department of Mercy Hospital of Fairfield, retiring in 2001. On November 4, 1996 in Hamilton she married Kenneth Garten. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Garten of Hamilton, OH; a son, Marc (Renee) Norris of Hamilton; two daughters, Barbara Lunsford of Hamilton and Betty Jo (Randy) Nistler of Mason, OH; a brother, Harold McGhee of Hamilton; two sisters, Barbara Ann (James) Hoskins of Hamilton and Bobbie McGhee of CA; six grandchildren, Melinda (Chris) Pottorf of Hamilton, Randy Nistler Jr. of Mason, Jeff Nistler of Mason, Larry Lunsford Jr. of Hamilton, Korinne Turner, and Morganne Turner, both of Hamilton; two great-grandchildren, Codi Sue Lunsford and Justin Pottorf, both of Hamilton; and her first husband, Leonard Norris. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Bonnie Weber; a son-in-law, Larry Lunsford Sr.; and two brothers, James McGhee and Johnny Michael McGhee. Gayhart, Fred L. -67, of Trenton, oh died May 21, 2008, at Atrium Medical Center. He was born in Hazard, Ky on August 2, 1940. Fred worked as a welder for General Electric. He served his country in the United States Air Force, was a longtime member of Eagles Aerie #528, and had owned the N.A.U.S. Club in Poasttown. Mr. Gayhart is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Ray) Townsend; son, Greg Gayhart; three sisters, Lorene Stout, Malty Pelfrey, and Joann Howerton; six brothers, Bill Gayhart, Herman Gayhart, Audney Gayhart, Robert Lawwill, Phillip Lawwill, and Rick Lawwill; two grandchildren, Michael Mullins and Michelle Mullins; and two great grandchildren, Britton Mullins and Myleigh Mullins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Presta) Gayhart in 2007; his mother, Helen (Gayhart) Lawwill; brothers, Ballard Gayhart Jr., Robert Gayhart, Elmer Gayhart, and William "Beaver" Lawwill and sister, Ila Mae Brown. Gayhart, Mart -the husband of Alice Gayhart,  passed away on Saturday, February 2, at their home in Lost Creek.  At the time of his death, Mr. Gayhart was 79 years of age.  He was the son of the late Sim and Tishie Hughes. Along with his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Kathy Gayhart Smith of Georgia and Alice E. Gayhart of Lost Creek.  His surviving sons are David Eugene Gayhart and Edward Gayhart, both of Lost Creek.  Along with a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren , he is also survived by his brother, Junior Gayhart of Second Creek.
The family received friends on Tuesday evening at The Lost Creek Pentecostal Church of Lord Jesus Christ where Masonic Rites were done at 7:00 PM.  The funeral service will be at 1:00 PM today, Wednesday, February 6, at The Lost Creek Pentecostal Church of Lord Jesus Christ with Rev. Charles Miller, Rev. Ed Baker and Rev. Noble officiating.  Interment will be at Mart Gayhart Cemetery in Lost Creek. All arrangements were entrusted to the staff of Maggard Brothers Funeral Home, E. Gayheart, Mrs. Mildred Faye -the widow of Amos Gayheart, passed away at her home in Bulan on Friday, February 8.  At the time of her death, she was 84 years of age.  Mrs. Gayheart was born in Hiner, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Davie and Mattie Rydner Williams.   Along with her husband, who passed away on August 3, 2007, and her parents, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Lois Jean Gayheart, her brother, Everett Williams and her sister, Goldie Halcomb. Mrs. Gayheart, who was a lifelong resident of Perry County, was a Charter Member of the Willow Fern Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Paul and wife Debra Gayheart of Bulan; two daughters, Clara and husband Billy Ray Herald of Bulan and Roberta Rogers of Ashland.  Her surviving sisters of Pauline Ellis of Roanoke, Virginia, and Ethel Farris of Norfolk, Virginia.  She is also survived by her five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. The family received friends on Saturday evening, February 9, at the Engle-Walker Funeral Home where the funeral service was conducted on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Clell Miller officiating.  The burial was in the family cemetery at Bulan. Gayheart, Nora -age 76, died Sunday, August 28, 2005 at Hazard ARH Medical Center in Hazard, KY. She is survived by her husband, Arthur Gayheart; four daughters-Nancy Johnson, Dana Hill, Linda Stacy, Evelyn Miller; two sons-Lloyd Gayheart and Wendell Gayheart; one brother, Ulous Hurt; special nephew, Abijah Ritchie; 8 Grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral service was held on August 31, 2005. Interment at Gayheart Cemetery in Lotts Creek, KY, with arrangements by Maggard Brothers Funeral Home of Hazard, KY.

Goodlette, Bess -age 79, of Hazard, died Saturday, August 2 at the Hazard ARH Regional Medical Center. She was a member of the Hazard Christian Church where she was the pianist for many years. She was also a member of the Alpha Xi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi for 23 years.
She was the daughter of the late Roy Goldsmith and the late Pauline Begley Goldsmith. She is preceded in death by her grandson, Joseph Taylor Fannin. She is survived by her husband, Joe Goodlette; daughters Margaret (Hugh Hodge) Goodlette and Paul Goodlette; sister Virgina and Ansel Davis; grandchild Amy Fannin and special friend Dottie Caldwell. Donations may be made to Mountain Hospice, 3115 N. Main, Hazard, Ky. Arrangements were handled by Maggard Brothers Funeral Home where the family received friends on Monday, August 4. Grigsby, Flossie B. -born May 25, 1922, departed this life on Friday, August 22 at her residence. She was 86 years, two months and 27 days of age at the time of her passing. She was born in Letcher County, the daughter of Cora Jane Hurt. She was a life long resident of Letcher and Knott Counties, and by occupation she as a retired teacher of 35 years in the Letcher County School System. She was preceded in death by her husband, Brady Grigsby; mother Cora Jane Hurt; aunt and uncle Lee and Margaret Cunningham; son Balis Grigsby; brother Robert Hurt; and son-in-law Ralph Winfrey. She leaves the following relatives surviving: sons Garland Grigsby and Kelly of Louisville and Ulous Grigsby of Louisville; daughters Lorrie Winfrey Downing and Danny of Louisville and Valerie Day and Doug of Nicholasville; brother Elmer Jack Hurt of Letcher County; granddaughters Amy Grigsby and Jill Hutchins. She is also survived by four great grandchildren and special friends C.B. and Mary Smith and family, Kim, Joyce, Courtney, Hunter, Samantha, Dennis and Linda; special caregivers, Mountain Community Hospice, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends survive. Grigsby, Sheila Yvonne ~54, of Lexington, passed  away Thursday, February 5 at her residence after a long battle with  cancer. She was born on March 3, 1954, the daughter of William Grigsby  and Beulah Grigsby Miller. She was an employee of Host Communication and a  member of the
Tates Creek Christian Church. To help others, she published the  book Round 4 and I’m Still Swinging. She is survived by her daughter,  Brandy Gillenwater of Lexington; sister Carolyn Combs of Baltimore, Ohio; sons  William Grigsby of Dayton, Ohio, Robert Grigsby of Smithsfield, Ky., and  Christopher Grigsby of Westport, Ky.; nephews Farris Combs and Marcus Combs; and  niece Sabrina Grigsby. Arrangements were handled by Maggard Mountain View  Chapel of Hazard where the family received friends on Monday, February 9. The  funeral service was Monday, February 9 with Rev. Grizzle, Edgar "Red" ~ Age 85 of Corbin, KY passed away on March 9, 2009 at his residence. He was born on December 10, 1923 in Hazard, KY to the late John and Florence (Combs) Grizzle. Red retired from Fisher Body in 1986 after 35 years of service and was a member of Level Green Baptist Church in Corbin, KY. He is survived by his wife Anna Lee (Colwell) Grizzle of Corbin, KY; four children, Wayne (Betty) Grizzle of Dayton, OH, Linda Reed of Ewing, KY, Johnny (Judy) of Middletown, OH and Patricia (Tony) Lovelace of Ewing, KY; four step-children; seven grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; many great grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wives Inez Grizzle and Lillie Grizzle; four brothers, Arthur, Floyd, Jessie and Tommy Grizzle. Funeral ceremony will be held at 1:30pm on March 13, 2009 at the Webb Noonan Funeral Home with Pastor Keith Risner of Edgewood Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will  be held from 12pm to 1:30pm at the funeral home.

Gross, Frances Duff ~ born on July 20, 1921,  departed this life on March 26. She was 87 years old at the time of her passing.  She was a life-long resident of Perry County, the daughter of the late Robert  Duff and the late Jean Martin Duff. By occupation she was a homemaker as well as  a teacher. Some of her hobbies included cooking, spending time with family,  going to the Senior Citizens Center, and reading her Bible. She attended the  Chavies First Church of God. She was preceded in death by her parents;  husband John Gross; three siblings who died in infancy; brothers Robert Edward  Duff and her beloved twin brother, Frank Duff; sisters Ruby Hiles and Geneva  Crase. She is survived by son John Frank Gross of Chavies; daughters  Sharon Ellison and Winston of Chavies, Jeannie Trumbo and Lucien of Airport  Gardens, and Fran Sidwell and Jim of Airport Gardens; sisters Coralie Cornett of  Boulder, Co. and Pauline Hunt of Mt. Vernon, Ky.; grandchildren Robert Ellison,  John Trumbo and Becky, Roy Trumbo and Julia, Charles Trumbo, Laura Feltner and  Chad, and Lindsay Sims and Michael; great-grandchild Miranda Ellison; and  special
caregiver Tabatha Gutierrez. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives  and friends also survive. Funeral services for Ms. Frances Duff Gross  were held on Sunday, March 29 at the Engle-Walker Funeral Home. Visitation was  Saturday, March 28 at the funeral home. Grubbs, 46, of Hazard, Tracie Patricia "Pattycake"  -died Tuesday, September 23 at the Hazard ARH Medical  Center. She was the daughter of the late J.W. Burcham and the late Otha  Henrickson White. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Alfred  Burcham. She is survived by her husband, Wiley Grubbs, Jr.; daughters  Connie Jean White, Tiffany Leann Grubbs and Otha Lorene Grubbs; son Ernest  Eugene White; brothers Gary L. Burcham and Ernest "Buddy" Burcham. She is also  survived by seven grandchildren, Cameron, Andrew, Lexi, Amber, Eric, Makayla and  Jordan, and a host of family and friends. Arrangements were handled by  Maggard Brothers Funeral Home. The family received friends on Thursday,  September 25 at the Community Presbyterian Church.
