Rose Blessing Craft (1880-1958), the county
health nurse in Knott County
for 26 years, was born in Carrollton, Ky. She married Knott County
lawyer
Wiley Craft while he was attending law school in Danville.
Prior to
attending Berea College for her nurse’s training, Mrs. Craft taught
at
the Hindman Settlement School. She served as a nurse at the
Settlement and
worked with deaf students.
Rose Blessing Craft served as the
county health nurse from June 1929 until
March 1955. She probably gave more shots to the people of Knott
County
than anyone through her visits to the schools and the community.
She was extremely active in the
Presbyterian Church in Knott County and the
region. Friends and family describe her as a perfectionist who was
extremely
compassionate. She gave her life to taking care of her family,
friends and the
Knott County public. Mrs. Craft died in the Garrison
Nursing Home in Mt. Sterling on February 27, 1958.
