KNOTT COUNTY HALL OF FAME

BERTHA GAYHEART
1907

Bertha Gayheart of Garner represents the very best things in Knott County.  She's been a very good mother, church member, neighbor and community leader.

One person nominating Bertha for the Hal of Fame wrote, "there is no person in Knott County more loved and respected than Bertha Gayheart. Money, titles and degrees don't make a person.  She has given more to the people of Knott County that anyone I know.  She has cooked at the school, taught Head Start on Caney, raised eight well-respected children and given so very much of herself to all of
her neighbors."

Another nominator wrote,  "Her unquestioned virtue and talent has been passed on to her children, who have excelled in many walks of life. "Bertha Gayheart is the epitome of the strong, God-fearing, faithful mountain women who have, since pioneer days, been the backbone of this area.

"Bertha, however, is much more than a good person.  She is famous for many things:  her newspaper columns, hr unlimited hospitality, her  friendship, and her family. Bertha Gayheart is Knott County"
