CARLOS "JAKE" HUFF
1922

Carlos "Jake" Huff has been an elected office holder since 1957 serving as a
sheriff, state representative, and Circuit Court Clerk.  "Jake is known for his
love of People demonstrated by his shaking practically every hand he sees,
affectionately calling people "honey" attending as many funerals as possible.

"Jake" Huff is also a successful businessman.  But, he was raised hard--both
parents were dead when he was 7 years old.  In 1942, he left Knott County
with a borrowed jacket and $15, and went to Newport News, Va., where he
worked in the shipyards.   "Jake" ran Huff's General Store in Garner for 12
years before beginning his Piggly-Wiggly store that has converted to Pic Pac.

"Jake's " first wife was killed in a car accident.  A son, Phillip Rodney Huff, was
born in that marriage.   In 1965 "Jake" married Justine Amburgey, to which a
son, Carlos Wayne Huff, was born.  "Jake" Huff served as sheriff from
1957-1961, state representative in 1962 and 1963, and has served as Knott
Circuit Court Clerk since 1963.  He was given the nickname "Jake" by his
grandfather.  Several people in the political arena have given him the nickname
"Honey" because of  his frequent use of that greeting.  Carlos "Jake" Huff has held the Knott circuit court clerk's position longer than any other person in the history of the County.  He was elected eight times to various office being one of the few Knott office holders to not face defeat.
