   Barry W. King 
 

Barry W. King (better known as B.B), of Hindman, Kentucky, is a native of Knott County. Born in 1961 to Clyde and Louise Meade King,  of Kite. B.B. made his mark early as a talented individual. He attended Knott County High School where he was a member of the Honor Society and played on two State Tournament basketball teams. In 1985, B.B. received a bachelor's degree from Alice Lloyd College and later obtained a master's degree from Morehead State University. During his time at Alice Lloyd, he was a member of the All KIAC Basketball Conference Team and led the conference in scoring in 1983. B.B. is the All Time Leading Scorer in the history of Knott County Central High School and  Alice Lloyd College basketball  Over the past several years, B. B. King has truly  demonstrated the meaning of service to one's community. In 1982, he became self-employed in the coal industry and has traditionally given back to the community by hiring primarily Knott County residents.  

B.B. has purchased and developed several tracts of land in the area as well as being the former co-owner of one of Kentucky's finest restaurants and hotel establishments, La-Citadel. 

B.B. and his wife, Sharon Kay's, involvement in professional and civic organizations include: Volunteer Assistant Coach of Knott County Central
for three State Tournament Teams (1991-1992-1993), Knott County Chamber of Commerce member, and board member and donor for the Jenny Wiley Theatre. As a fundraiser, B.B.. donated a tract of property to the Knott County Central Lady Patriots Basketball Team in 1999. The school raised over $15,000 for their program.

Barry W. King credits his parent's, Kay's and the community's influence as his inspiration for becoming such a leader in Knott County.  B.B. has graciously given of his time and resources to further extra-curricular  activities in the county to help ensure that today's students have the opportunity to achieve their dreams.
