HIRAM  H. TAYLOR
1886-1967
 

Hiram Taylor was Knott County school superintendent form 1922 to 1932, at which time the Hindman High School stone building was erected. He traveled over the county visiting schools on horseback. He was one of the first teachers, along with Miss Weston of Boston, who taught at the Carr Creek School., located at what was then called Dirk, KY.  He was also a principal at Hindman grade school and a police judge.                                                                                    

He studied under Professor Clarke and was a graduate of Eastern State College, Richmond, Ky. Besides his dedication to the Knott County schools as a teacher, he also served his community in many ways.  Hiram Taylor faithfully served his church as a deacon and a great Bible teacher. He helped organize several mission churches in the area.  Among them were Smithsboro Baptist church and Montgomery Baptist.

Taylor was in the military service during World War I  at Fort Knox and officer's training Georgia in 1917.

He was the son of Knott County parents, Richard and Lucinda Amburgey Taylor.  Born in Logan county, West Virginia, Taylor's family returned to live n the Carr Creek area when he was about one year old.

Hiram was married to Lucinda Francis Taylor of Carr Creek, whose parents were Samuel and Lettie Mullins Francis. They had five children, Frances Newland, Mildred Burger, Donice Turner, June Davidson, and Samuel Richard Taylor (Who preceded him in death).  His brother is Floyd Taylor of Sassafras.
