Jackson, Shirley May -Age 69 went home to be with our Lord at Ft. Hamilton Hospice Unit on Thursday, March 23, 2006 at 5:15 PM. She was born in Bath, Kentucky on May 9, 1936 the daughter of Joseph R. and Matilda (Tolliver) Adams. Shirley was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and a lifetime member of DAV Women's Auxiliary. On November 12, 1955 in New Miami, she married Rev. Andrew Jackson. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Rev. Andrew Jackson of Hamilton; two sons, Gregory Jackson and his wife Andrea of Hamilton and Steven Jackson and his wife Connie of Fairfield; one daughter, Belinda Shackelford and her husband Gary of Cincinnati; seven grandchildren, Erica and her husband Richard Usher, Rebecca Shackelford, and Amber, Krystal, Brittany, Elaina, and Alyssa Jackson; six great-grandchildren, Savannah, Valencia, and Ziona Usher, and Alexia, Jaelyn, and Mariha Jackson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, and six brothers. Funeral Service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Monday, March 27, 2006 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Marvin Loudermilk and Rev. Tom Metcalf officiating. Burial will follow in Hickory Flat Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Jacobs, Burchel D. -age 61, of Pinetop, Kentucky, died on Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at Appalachian Regional Hospital, Whitesburg, Kentucky.  He was born on March 22, 1943, in Knott County, Kentucky, the son of the late Isom B. and Della Caudill Jacobs.  He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sharon K. Jacobs; three brothers and five sisters. Jacobs, Sally Ann Slone -age 93, of Beckley, West Virginia, died Monday, March 27, 2006, at Beckley ARH, Beckley, West Virginia.  She was born January 1, 1913, in Knott County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Marion and Evaline Johnson Slone. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Dennis Jacobs; two sons: Nick "Arco" Jacobs and David Jacobs; one daughter: Lacy Jacobs; two brothers: H.B. Slone and Leslie Slone; three sisters: Bessie Jacobs, Lizzie Sone and Gladys Slone. Jacobs, Virginia Mae of Ligonier, age 58 died at 12:31 am Wednesday Oct 29, 2003 at Elkhart General Hospital; Mrs. Jacobs was employed at Tenneco Automotive as a machine operator.  She was a member of Community Baptist Church in Wolcottville and enjoyed quilting and gardening. She was born Feb 15 1945, in Hindman, Ky. to Arthur and Juanita (Jackson) Ritchie.  Her mother survives in Ligonier and her father is deceased.  On July 17, 1965, in Rome City, she married Charles Jacobs.  He died in February. Also survivi8ng are a daughter, Shanda Jacobs of Ligonier, a son, Terry Jacobs of Ligonier, four sisters, Hazel Jacobs of Ligonier, Martha Halsey of Ligonier, Debbie Heise of North Webster and Alpha Wilcox of Fort Wayne:  Five brothers, Oscar Ritchie of Hindman, Ky.,  Charles Ritchie of Kimmell, Ind, and Arthur Ritchie , Bobby Ritchie and Dannie Ritchie all of Ligonier:  Five grandchildren, David, Derek, Desiree, Chase and Skyla and sever nephews and nieces.  She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Dale and Glen. Jacobs, Willis ~ age 69, of Hindman, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2010, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. He was born at Pippa Passes on May 6, 1941, to George Jacobs and Dorcy Johnson Jacobs. He was a former employee of Georgia Pacific Manufacturing, a former Knott Co. Deputy Sheriff and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents; Son- Terry Jacobs; Brothers and Sister-Kelly Jacobs, Garlie Jacobs, Curtis Jacobs and Mary Edith Gibson. He is survived by 2 sons- Timothy Wayne (Tamara) Jacobs and Danny Jacobs; Daughter- Lisa Carol Jacobs; Ex-wife- Theada; Brothers- Dixon Jacobs and Wheeler Jacobs; Sisters-Frankie Caudill, Thelma Caudill, Mattie Sutton and Sadie Compton; 5 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren. Jefferies, Georgia Blair -age 76, of Madison, Indiana died at Kings Daughters Hospital, Madison, Indiana. She was born June 29, 1929, in Smithsboro, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Sim & Martha (Francis) Blair.  She was a 1949 graduate of Carr Creek High School and attended business school.  She moved to the Madison community 44 years ago from Muncie, Indiana, where she had lived for 10 years. A memorial service will be held this fall in Knott County.  The date of the memorial service will be announced at a later time.

Johnson, Alma, Age 82 of Hamilton passed away at HCR Manor Care, Cincinnati, on Sunday, February 26, 2006 at 8:30 AM. She was born in Clay County, Kentucky on June 30, 1923 the daughter of Robert and Sophia (Mills) Eversole. Alma was employed as a clerk for Federated Department Store for 14 years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church and O.E.S. Washington Chapter #195. On December 20, 1941 in Clay County, she married John Johnson. She is survived by her husband, John Johnson of Harrison; two sons, Edward (Darlene) Johnson of Troy, Illinois and Robert (Mary) Johnson of Cleves; one daughter, Linda (Danny) Walden of Phoenix, Arizona; five grandchildren, Charlie, John, Annette, Lisa, and Amy; ten great-grandchildren; and one sister, Joyce Baker of Hamilton. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Shirley Hibbard; two grandchildren, Robyn and Alma; and three brothers, Eldon, Joe, and Alex. Funeral Service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Avenue, on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at 3:00 PM with Rev. Barry Wilson, Pastor of Hilltop Baptist Church officiating. Johnson, Bobby G. ~ 68, of Dillsboro, IN, passed away at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, July 5th, at Woodland Hills Care Center, Lawrenceburg, IN. Bobby was born in Knott County, KY on March 18, 1943, a son of the late Ellen (Watts) and Melvin Johnson. He was a graduate of Milan High School, Class of 1963. He worked as a chemical operator at Monsanto (later Bayer) in Cincinnati, OH. for 33 Years. On November 20, 1965 at the Rising Sun Presbyterian Church he married Bonnie (Smith) Johnson who survives him. They spent almost 46 loving years together. Bobby loved being with his grand kids. He also enjoyed classic cars, working on motors and woodworking. Bobby also liked raising a large garden. He was a loving husband, dad and papaw and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He was a retired Coal Miner and a member of the Church of God of Weeksbury. He was the husband of the late Goldie Mullins Johnson. He is survived by 1 daughter: Judy (Bill) Newsome of Weeksbury; a step-son: Doug Coleman of Harold; a step-daughter: Patty Rogers of Weeksbury; a brother: I. B. Johnson of Weeksbury; 2 sisters: Irene Thacker of Hi Hat and Rilda Newsome of Prestonsburg; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was a graduate of Morehead State Teachers College and taught in Floyd, Knott, Boyd Counties as well as Ashland Independent School System. She was preceded in death by her husband; Haskell K. Johnson, Chloe--81 of Boise, passed to the next life Wednesday morning at the Boise Care Center.  Funeral services will be held at 3 pm, Saturday, May 22, at Summers Funeral Home, Boise Chapel.  James Roberts and Robert O'Hara will officiate. Burial will follow at Morris Hill Cemetery.  A reception and dinner will be held at the graveside at the Church of Christ, 1555 N. Linder Rd., Meridian.  Chloe was born June 26, 1917 in Yale Ark., a daughter of Henry C. and Sarah Ann Ritchie Weatherby.  She contracted polio on her ninth birthday, resulting in significant paralysis in her legs. During the Depression her family relocated briefly to Stroud, Okla. before moving to Meridian, Idaho, in 1934, Called "Clara Cloe" by her mother, Chloe changed her name as a young teenager. She graduated from the Excelsis Beauty School in Boise, May 31, 1941, and worked as a professional beautician and small business owner for several years. She married Carl E. Johnson, originally of Winlock, Oregon on June 29, 1952 and the two lived in Boise on Vista Avenue, in 1957, on his way to was as a grader and superintendent of a lumber mill in Mountain Home, Carl died in a car accident, a victim of a drunk driver. Chloe and Carl were baptized into Christ soon after their marriage. Chloe was an original member of the group of Christians which began assembling at the 25th and Regan Street in Boise in the early 1960's and which now meets on Linder Road in Meridian. She was a very active participant in the congregation until her health began to fail in the 1980's.  Chloe and her son moved in 1960 to a small acreage on Pierce Park Lane where she enjoyed gardening and country living.  The family moved to a home on Pomona Street in 1975.  A lover of the forest, she along with the Emery family, spent many enjoyable hours constructing a vacation cabin near Camp Ivydale in Idaho City, Idaho. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Sharon Johnson, and grandchildren, Sharla and Ben, of Georgia VT. She was preceded in death by her parents: her two brothers, Ermal and William Weatherby, and two children who died before birth.  The family wishes to thank Mary O'Hara and her family for their loving care of Chloe over the past three years as she suffered from post-polio syndrome, dementia and cancer. Friends may call today, Friday, from 5-8 pm at Summers Funeral Home, Boise Chapel.

Johnson, Donald G. Age 66 of Milford Township, passed away at his residence on Tuesday, March 14, 2006. He was born in Jackson County, Kentucky on April 14, 1939 the son of Wade and Elvia Johnson. Donald was a retired machinist from Mosler Safe Company. He is survived by his wife; three children; one brother; two sisters; and ten grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at Pentecostal Highway of Holiness, 3470 Hamilton-Middletown Road, on Friday, March 17, 2006 at 10:00 AM with Pastor W. Craig Inman officiating. Johnson, Earl ~ Age 92, of Germantown, OH, passed away August 12, 2009. Earl was born in Yellow Mountain, KY on July 15, 1917 to the late Jesse and Margaret (Conley) Johnson. Earl served in the CCC's from 1936 to 1937 and was a WWII veteran serving in the USAAF until his discharge in 1946. Earl was a member of the Towne Boulevard Church of God in Middletown, OH. Earl worked for 40 years at Armco Steel Corporation in Middletown, retiring from the Electric Power Department in 1983. Since 1949, Earl has been active in Farming in the Germantown area. Earl loved to travel and he especially enjoyed the trips he made with Pearl to spend the winter in Florida and trips to the Great Smokey Mountains. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years Pearl (Cox) Johnson, two children, Oleta and Merville; a grandson, David Scott Johnson; three brothers, Audie Johnson, Allie Johnson, and Woodrow Johnson; two sisters, Gladys Hamilton and Betty Arapies. He is survived by two sons, Lloyd (Judy) Johnson of Germantown, OH and Winston Dale (Betty) Johnson of Middletown, OH and his daughter Charlotte Kay Phelps of Germantown; five grandchildren Steve Johnson (Judy), Scott Johnson (Cheri), Tim Phelps (Amy), Angie Richardson (Kirk), and Lori Hall; eight great-grandchildren, Brandalynn Nicole Johnson, Marshall Steven Johnson, Mikah-Jade Johnson, Brandon Scott Johnson, Anthony William Phelps, Michael David Phelps, Sydney Jordan Richardson and Kirk Charles Richardson; a special brother- in-law, Eric Lowell (Amy), of Miamisburg and a special niece, Vickie Wilson of Miamisburg. Johnson, Sr.Eugene ~  Eugene's grandson, Major Eugene Johnson, III, penned these words, "Grandpa J passed away today. He was a great man who lived a great life. Part of "the greatest generation" that we all owe a huge debt. He trained and led his fellow Marines in battle. He continued to serve as a policeman. He was also a man of great faith who was a leader and servant in the Baptist Church. The Johnson family loved him as a father, husband, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather. We will miss you Grandpa!"  Eugene Johnson, Sr., 91, died on Tuesday, March 30, 2010. He was born to the late George W. and Mary Clarkson Johnson on July 15, 1918 in Burning Springs, Kentucky. His parents were professors at Berea College, and after the death of his mother, he and his brother, Joseph Johnson, were cared for by his father, aunts, and uncles in Cody, Kentucky, and attended Carr Creek schools. Mr. Johnson entered the Marine Corps on July 2, 1938, and served his country in the Pacific in the 6th Division during WWII and Okinawa during the Korean War. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corp after 20 years of service. He married Hazel Hatfield in 1939 and of this union were born three children, Roberta, Eugene Jr., and G. David. After Hazel's death he married Vera Banks Wilson in 1986. Survivors include his wife, Vera Johnson; his three children, Roberta Scheel (Robert), Eugene Johnson Jr. (Cheryl), and G. David Johnson (Cecilia); nine grandchildren, Bobby, Ricky, Rodney and Rebecca Pauley, Eugene Johnson, III, Victoria and Joshua Johnson, Patrick and William Johnson; and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Vera's family of 4 children Michael Wilson, Timothy Wilson, Dianne Melton, and Linda Phillips; 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 3, 2010, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dale Seley officiating. Burial with military honors followed in Peninsula Memorial Park.

Johnson, Kathleen ~ age 52 of Teaberry, passed away September 5, 2011, at the Pikeville Medical Center. She was born July 28, 1959, in Floyd County, the daughter of the late Adren & Euggle Newsome Martin. She was a homemaker and a member of the Zion Old Regular Baptist Church at Grethel. She was the wife of Jimmy Johnson.
She is survived by 2 sons: Sonny (Annie) Johnson of Harold, and Craig Derek Johnson of Teaberry; 1 daughter: MaKayla Dawn Johnson of Teaberry; 3 sisters: Willavene Tackett of Teaberry, Janet Compton of Grethel, and Charlene Martin of Teaberry. Johnson, Nelle Hays -93, of Ashland Terrace Retirement Home, Lexington and of Carr Creek, KY, died July 20, 2006. She was born in Hazard, KY, the daughter of Lula and Doug Hays. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard "Sprout" Johnson. Surviving are two children, Ann (Denver) Pratt of Carr Creek, and Richard (Karen) Johnson of Lexington; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Gary) Larking, Ginger (Todd) Patton, Brooke (Jason) Hiltz, Todd Johnson, and two great grandchildren, Justin Pratt and Matthew Patton. Also surviving is a brother, Stanley Hays, Arlington, VA, many loving nieces and nephews , former students, a special friend, Charles Tignor, and the Ashland Terrace "gals." She attended Caney Junior College, Tusculum College, Morehead State Teachers College, and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1938. She was a devoted and much loved educator, beginning her teaching career in Lexington, followed by 25 years at Carr Creek Elementary and high school. A charter member of Smithsboro Baptist, she served the church in many capacities, including 40 years as a Sunday School teacher and many years as church treasurer. She was a long time member of the Knott County Homemakers Club and attended many national club conventions. Her last six years were spent at Ashland Terrace Retirement Home in Lexington, where she participated in volunteer activities, including Cassidy Elementary School, the VA Hospital, and Best Friends. Visitation will be Fri, July 21, from 6-9 p.m. at Hindman Funeral Services with funeral services at 11 a.m., Sat, July 22, at Hindman Funeral Services. Johnson, Paul Sr. Age 63, of Franklin passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2004 at his residence. He was born on March 20, 1941 in Hazard, Kentucky, the son of David C. and Amanda (Baker) Johnson. He married Emily L. Bolen on April 3, 1958 in Hindman, Kentucky. Robert was a foundry worker at Newnam Foundry and Kendallville Foundry both in Kendallville before his early retirement in 1991. He was a member of the  Harbor Of Love Baptist Church in Kendallville. Survivors include: His wife, Emily Bolen Johnson of LaGrange. Daughter, Linda  and Wilford Slone of Kendallville. Born Nov.25, 1928, in West Garrett, she was the daughter of Molly Patton Rice of West Garrett, and the late Perry Rice. She was a homemaker and a member of the Hueysville Church of Christ. She is survived by her husband, Carl Johnson. Jones, Albert - Funeral services for Albert Jones, 63, Milan, were Friday, May 20, 2005, at the Little Memory Old Regular Baptist Church, Spades, Ind., with burial in Little Memory Cemetery. Cook Funeral Home, Sunman, was in charge of arrangements.  Mr. Jones died Monday, May 16, at home. He was a member of Big Creek Old Regular Baptist Church, DuPont, Ind. Jones, Earmin B. 62, of 261 State St., Fairborn, died early Friday at Greene Memorial Hospital. He was a custodian for Fairborn Recreation Center and member of the Church of God.  Born September 9, 1912 in Waco, Kentucky, the son of Webb and Susie Todd Jones.  Survivors include his widow, Ida; five daughters, Mrs. (Ronald) Frances Zerkle and Mrs. William (Mary) Wilson, both of Fairborn, Mrs. Delmer (Fannie) Lewis of Dayton, Mrs. Marvin (Betty) Bowman of Trotwood and Mrs. Robert (Ida Mae) Sweeney of New Mexico: a son, Thomas W. Jones of Fairborn; a sister, Mrs. Ann Dunnaway of Florida; four brothers, Preston, Alex, and Martin, all of Kentucky, and Webb Jones Jr. of Fairborn; 16 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Services will be conducted at2 p.m. Monday by the Rev. S. Jones, Glen H. 69, of Fairborn, died Monday, August 9, 1999 in Greene Memorial Hospital. He was born April 26, 1930 in Williamsburg, Kentucky.  He was a member of the American Legion Dignam-Whitmore Post 526 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Wright Aerie 2641.He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Dennis Thornsberry of New Haven, Kentucky; and Sandy and Joe Fazio of Springfield; a son, Jerry Baker of Dayton; five grandchildren, Todd  and Amber Baker, Josh and Tara Thornsberry, and Brian Fazio; two half-sisters; two half-brothers; foster brothers and sisters and their spouses, Barbara and Alfred Plantz of Dayton, and Jo Ann Griffin, June and Richard Mans, Scotty and Pam Lamb, and Richard and Donna Lamb, all of Fairborn, and a special cousin, Myrtle Foust, of Huber Heights. She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Drew Jones and James L. Hinds. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 5, at the Burcham Funeral Home, 119 E. Main St., Fairborn, with Rev. Bob LeMaster officiating. Interment will follow in Byron Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Jones, Virgie age 84, of Shiloh, Ohio, formerly of  Hueysville, widow of Alonzo, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2003, at the Willard Health Care Center , Willard, Ohio.  She was born November 17, 1918, in Knott County, the daughter  of the late Harrison Lovely and Lula Conley Lovely.  Survivors include three sons, Charles Jones of Harpster, Ohio, James Jones, of Cardington, Ohio, and Larry Jones of Albion, Indiana; four daughters, Elouise Martin of Clearwater, Florida, Clara Vanderpool of Shiloh, Ohio, Irene Hale of Salyersville, and Claudia Martin of Pataskala, Ohio, 26 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Combs.  Funeral services for Virgie Jones were conducted Monday, May 5, at 11 a.m. at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Clergyman Joe Ratliff officiating. burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home, Martin.  Visitation was at the funeral home.  Pallbearers: Charles Jones, Chris Boes, Jeff  Watkins, Brandon Hale, Preston Hale, and Gary martin.  Honorary:  Wayne Martin, David Martin, and Charlie Jones Jr.     Source:  The Floyd County Times,  Wednesday, may 7, 2003

Justice, Doffie ~ age 84 of Beaver, passed away January 7, 2011, at the McDowell ARH.  He was born November 9, 1926, in Knott County, the son of the late Sam & Laura Bell Mullins Justice.  He was a retired Coal Miner and a US Army WWII Veteran, and the husband of the late Kanzella Henson Justice. He is survived by his children: Doff Drone (Companion: Sue Newman) Justice of McDowell, S. S. Hilman (Liz) Justice of Taylor, Michigan, Danny Ray (Denise) Justice of Ligon, Glenda Dale (Lark) Mitchell of Taylor, Michigan, Brenda Gale (Larry) Johnson of Fenton, Michigan & Linda Fay (Jerry) Tackett of Ligon; Like A Son: Hillard Gayheart of Indiana; 1 sister: Bonnie Hall of Bevinsville; Grandchildren: Larry Jr., Barry, Tina, Katrina, Lisa, Doff "Punkin", Denny, Shawna, Tamela, Timothy, Michelle, Kim & Andrea; 16 Great Grandchildren. Justice, Lucinda Parks Thornsberry age 91 of Kite, passed away Nov. 12, 2007 at home.  She as born June 5, 1916, at Brinkley, the daughter of the late Alexander and Rebecca Calton Parks.  She was the wife of the late Arnold Thornsberry, and Clyde Justice. She is survived by 4 sons: Buddy Thornsberry of Kite, Warner Thornsberry of Drift, Hubert Thornsberry of Highland City, Thomas Thornsberry of Topmost; 2 daughters: Oga Mae Combs of Drift and Renia Vae Stanfield of Mulberry, Fl.; 29 grandchildren, 65 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, 5 brothers: Nelson, Riley, Dewey, Goldman and Robert Lee Parks; 2 sisters: Rhoda Hensley, Rosie Blair. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, 11 a.m. at Nelson Frazier Funeral Home, Hindman, with Deffort Thornsberry & Others officiating.  Burial followed at the Arnold Thornsberry Cemetery at Kite.

Justice, Mable Sue "Susie" Thacker ~ age 64, died on Friday, January23, 2004, at Richman. Tennessee. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Mousie, Kentucky. She attended Hindman High School, Hindman, Kentucky and was a graduate of Sturdivant Business College and Mayo Nursing School. She was a part owner and manager of the Inn at Wise. Virginia, in the early 1970’s. She worked ten years as a pediatric nurse for Wise Clinic, Wise, Virginia and fifteen years for Powell Valley Family Physicians. at Big Stone Gap, Virginia. She loved to cook, sing and write poetry. She was known by many as a second mother, always having time to help and love the young people she met, and was called "Mom" by many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell Thacker and Hazel Bolen Thacker Hicks; three brothers, Jackie Thacker. Claude Thacker and  Lydia Thacker, a baby daughter. Jennifer Wood, and her former husband. Virgil B. Justice. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law. Dale Trent Woodand Cindy, Vincent Justice and Debra and Dwayne Justice and Valerie. all of Wise. Virginia; two grandsons. Joshua Justice and Matthew Justice; four step grandchildren, Robert Strong, Cassie Creech, Josie Kendrick and Elizabeth Pilkenton: four sisters, Kathleen Rice of Shelton Washington, Norma Lane of Anderson, Indiana, Betty Carter of Wise. Virginia, and Gina Coy of Richman, Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Monday, January 26 ,at 1:00 p.m  First Baptist Church, Mousie, Kentucky, with Reverend Clyde Wicker officiating. Burial followed in Bob Conic} Cemetery. Lackey, Kentucky under the direction of Wise, Virginia
