Lackey, James Roy -age 57, of Bevinsville,
Kentucky, died on Saturday, January 1, 2005, at the V. A. Medical Center,
Huntington, West Virginia. He was born on October 30, 1947, a son of the
late Handsford "Hank" and Alma Elkins Lackey.
He was a disabled coal Miner; a U. S. Army (Sargent E-05) veteran, and a member
of the Wheelwright Freewill Baptist Church, Bypro, Kentucky. He was preceded in
death by his parents; two brothers, William Harold Hall and Paul Eddie Lackey;
and four sisters, Nancy Carol Lackey, Dorothy Jackson, Hattie Mae Boggs and Ida
Lee Patton. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Spears Lackey; a son, James
Kelly Lackey of Mt. Sterling; two daughters, Rita Jo Farley of Mousie, Kentucky
and Christy "Chrissy" Branham of Melvin, Kentucky; a brother, Alfred Lackey of
Howe, Indiana; three sisters, Freda Mae Watts of Mineral City, Ohio, Evelyn
Chimel of Maryland and Helen Jean Riggs of West Virginia; grandchildren,
Elizabeth Laken, Tylan, Courtney, Ryan, Emylee and Kendell; and a
stepgranddaughter, Stephanie. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday,
January 6, 2005, at 1:00 p.m., at Wheelwright Freewill Baptist Church, Bypro,
Kentucky, with Louis Ferrari officiating. Burial will follow in Matthew Tackett
Cemetery, Melvin, Kentucky, under the direction of Nelson Frazier Funeral Home,
Martin, Kentucky.

Lafferty, Ralph Stanton -age 64, of Hippo, Kentucky, died Monday, September
26, 2005, at the Veterans Hospital, Lexington, Kentucky. He was born January 20,
1941, the son of the late Ezra Rosemary Thornsberry Lafferty. He was preceded
in death by his parents; wife: Phyllis Terry Lafferty; three brothers: Jerry,
Delmar, and Carlos Lafferty; one sister: Kathryn Lafferty. He is survived by one
son: Steven (Kelly) Lafferty, Prestonsburg, Kentucky; two daughters: Rebecca
Rose (Larry) Glime and Marsha Lynn (Todd) Crisp all of Hippo, Kentucky; three
brothers: Donald Lafferty, Oil Springs, Kentucky, Paul Lafferty, Hindman,
Kentucky, Anthony Lafferty, Hippo, Kentucky; three sisters: Merlin Patton, St.

Lake, Ruth Ann ~ age 74, of Hindman, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2010
at the Hazard ARMC. She was born May 17, 1935 in Pippa Passes, to Troy Taylor
and Sarah Sturgill Taylor. She is survived by two children: Susan Carol Lake and
Troy Michael Grimes; one grandchild: Scott Lake; sister: Carol McClure; host of
nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and two
brothers: Jack and Burnis Taylor. Ruth attended Caney High School and Caney
Junior College. She graduated with the first graduating class at Alice Lloyd
College. She earned her Masters Degree in Education with a concentration in
Library Science at EKU. In Detroit, MI she worked fifteen years as a Lab
Technician and EKG Technician. She worked two years at June-Buchanan Clinic in
Hindman, and fifteen years at Emmalena Elementary as a Librarian. Memorial
services were held on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Hindman
Funeral Services Chapel with Dick Bowers and Ruby Couch officiating. Burial
followed at Mountain Memory Gardens in Hindman, under the direction of Hindman
Funeral Services.

Large, Delora Wilson Calhoun -92, died Monday, March 19, 2007, in her
home at 351 Calhoun Branch, Jackson, Ky. Delora was the daughter of Richard M.
Wilson and Millie Jane Collett Wilson of Helton, Ky. Her parents donated the
land for the Beechfork United Methodist Church of Helton. They also donated the
land for the Beechfork Elementary School at Helton. Delora's father was a
Spanish-American War veteran. After his death, her mother, Millie, was the last
living widow in America to draw a Spanish-American war pension. While Richard
and his brother, Andrew a United Methodist minister, were stationed in Alabama,
they were instrumental in persuading missionaries to establish the Pine Mountain
Settlement School. Delora attended high school at the Red Bird Settlement School
in Bell County. After high school she worked as a telephone operator in Hazard.
There she met her first husband, Harold E. Calhoun of Rousseau, Ky. Harold was a
descendant of William Cornett and Mary Everage. They moved to Knott County where
Harold was general mine foreman of the Bluebird Mining Company. They had three
children: Jane Carolyn Calhoun, James Harold Calhoun, and Letitia Sue Calhoun.
Harold and Delora were talented musicians. Harold played the piano, guitar, and
banjo. Delora played piano, organ, and guitar. They were married twenty two
years. Harold died of a massive heart attack while family was living at Blue
Bird, Ky. Delora married Lake Large of Hunting Creek, Ky. They were married
forty-eight years. Lake preceded her in death on October 31, 2006. Delora's son,
Jim Calhoun also preceded her in death in February 2002. Delora is survived by
her 2 daughters: Carolyn (E.A.) Couch of Paintsville, and Sue (Bob) Dykes of
Sandusky, Ohio; 6 grandchildren: Christopher Harold (Susie) Calhoun of Keswick,
Va., Jill Calhoun (David) Kavanaugh of Keswick, Va., Tammy Sue (Scott) Printy of
Chicago, Ill., Robin Frances (Mike) Sweet of Monroeville, Ohio, David Calhoun
(Tina) Couch of Versailles, Ky., Joe Calhoun (Marsha) Couch of Lexington, Ky.;
11 great-grandchildren: Alissa, Amanda, Mitchell, Matthew, Ryan, Braxton, Logan,
Tyler, Eli, Michael, and Patricia; 1 sister: Fern Wilson of Dayton, Ohio; 1
brother: Leyman Wilson of Helton; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. The
funeral was held Thursday, March 22, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the Breathitt Funeral
Home Chapel, with burial in the Jackson Cemetery. Breathitt Funeral Home in
charge of arrangements.

Lewis, Sandy Jones , 56, wife of Dwayne Edwin Lewis, Sr. of Lexington,
died Thu, Aug. 3, 2006 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington. She was born in
Harlan, KY to the late Grant Jones and Lucy Rose Jones, a bookkeeper for Harlan
Farmers Supply and Harlan Heating and Cooling, a member of Hill-N-Dale Christian
Church in Lexington and the Harlan Lions Club. She was an avid reader and writer
of horror and science fiction and enjoyed gardening and landscaping. Besides her
husband, she is survived by her son, Dwayne "Wayne" E. Lewis, Jr. (Megan),
Lexington, her brother, Grant Jones (Rosemary), Lytle, TX, her sister, Lee Meade
(James), Corbin, KY, her grandchildren, Paul, Sam, and Molly Lewis, nieces,
Brenda, Jennifer, Stephanie, and Melissa, and a special friend, Ken Bowling,
Harlan KY. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Mon at the Mt. Pleasant Mortuary in

Lindon, William H. "Tricky Bill" -age 76, of Franklin, Ohio passed
away Saturday, April 22, 2006 at 5:30 p.m. at Middletown Regional Hospital
Emergency Room. He was born August 26, 1929 in Wayland, Kentucky and had
lived in Ohio most of his life. He was employed as a Clerk for 20 years at the
Ohio State Liquor Store in Middletown. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of
Orioles and the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Middletown. He was preceded in
death by his parents, William M. and Thelma (Lower) Lindon, wife, Imogene Lindon

Marion, Ohio, Charles Edward Mosley of Campbell, California, Curtis Michael
Little of Prospect, Ohio, and bobby Little of Price; two daughters, Betty Lee
Sword, and Phyllis Jean Moore, both of Price; a sister, Myrtle Kulik of Lorain,
Ohio; a half-brother, James Elswick of Hi Hat; 15 grandchildren, 16
great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and six
step-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was
preceded in death by one son, Dewey Little; one brother, Harrison Bee Johnson;
two sisters, Gracie Johnson and Minnie Tuttle; and one grandson. Funeral
services will be conducted Sunday, June 1, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier
Funeral Home, in Martin, with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating.
Burial will be in the Little Cemetery at Price, under the direction of the
Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home. Visitation is at the funeral home.

1924, in Floyd County, he was a son of the late Perry and Martha Hall Little. He
was a retired coal miner and member of Joppa Old Regular Baptist Church. He was
also preceded in death by a son, Donald Gene Little: and a sister, Mary Francis
Bentley. Survivors include his wife, Mary Cook Little; four sons, Jerry Wayne
Little of St. Cloud, Fla., Terry Lee Little of Ypsilanti, Mich., Richard Ray
Little of Eolia, Mo, and Carl Douglas Little of Topmost; a daughter, M artha Ann
Hicks of topmost; a stepmother, Lillie Ward Little of Bypro; a half-brother,

2004, at Our Lady of the Way Hospital, Martin, Kentucky. He was born on June 3,
1946, in Knott County, Kentucky, the son of the late Ballard Little and the late
Vernie Johnson. He was a coal miner. He was preceded in death by his parents and
two brothers, John Caudill and Joe Caudill.
He is survived by his wife Martha Johnson Little; a son, Jason Little of Kite,
Kentucky; a daughter, Karen Hall (Stacy) of Kite, Kentucky; two brothers, Dewey

Lovins, William Hurst -62, of Milan, passed away Saturday,
January 31, 2009 at
Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville. He was born
December 5, 1946 at Talcum,
Kentucky, the son of William Lovins and Hazel (Terry) Lovins. He married Carol
Jean (Knigga) Lovins on December 6, 1965 and she survives. Other survivors
include son, Tom (Becky) Lovins of Dillsboro; daughter, Denise (Anthony) Roark
of Dillsboro; mother, Hazel Fugate of Osgood; and four
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Rodney and Troy
Lovins.Mr. Lovins was the superintendent for the Town of Moores Hill. He was a
member of Milan F&AM #31 Ma-sonic Lodge.Funeral services are being held today,
Tuesday, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s
Lutheran Church at Farmers Retreat with Pastor Richard Wilkie
officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery at Farmers Retreat.
Memorials may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church. Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral

Lowe, Eddie Dean -age 52 of Betsy Layne, Ky. passed away Sunday, December
30,2007 at Highlands Regional Medical Center. She was born November 21, 1955 to
the late Harvey and Helen Mullins Lowe. Funeral services will be held Wednesday,
January 2, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Nelson Frazier Funeral Home in Martin with Tracy
Patton officiating. Burial will follow at Keathley Cemetery in Harold under the

Lowe, Jimmy Darrell -age 40, of Rockhouse, Ky., died on Thurs., June 16, 2005, at the Appalachian Regional Health Care Center, Whitesburg, Ky. He was born on April 1, 1965, the son of the late George and Margie Adams Lowe. Funeral services were conducted on Sun., June 19, at Lighthouse Church, with Glen Gross and Ted Collins officiating. Lucas, Angela Hall -Funeral services for Angela Hall Lucas were conducted
Wednesday, April 12, 2006 from Everidge Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Craft and
Pete Purdue officiating. Burial followed in the Hall Cemetery, Mayking,
Kentucky.
Angela Hall Lucas, daughter of the late William Melton and Virten Fouts Hall,
was born in Letcher County, Kentucky, August 31, 1923. She entered eternal life
Monday, April 10, 2006 at her residence at Mayking, Kentucky being 82 years, 7
months and 9 days of age at the time of her passing. Angela was the widow of
Kermit Lucas. He passed away November 21, 1996. She was a retired beautician and
jewelry store owner. Her working career spanned many years and she made many
lasting friendships. Angela was an avid gardener who loved wildflowers and the
outdoors, bur her family and her home were the most important things to her. She
is survived by her brother, John R. Hall, of Coeburn, Virginia; a host of
nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a special caregiver, Donna
Holbrook. Also surviving are many friends and other relatives to mourn her
passing. Angela was preceded in death by a brother, William Hiram Hall and two
sisters: Sara Evelyn Hall and Iva Lee Collins.

Lucas, Chester -age 91, of Garrett, Kentucky, died on Friday, December
10, 2004, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, Kentucky. He was
burn on August 13, 1913, at Grayson, Kentucky, a son of John Lucas and Eva
Collins Lucas.
He is survived by two sons, Ron Lucas of Princetown, Louisiana and Ray Jacobs of
Langley, Kentucky; two daughters,Twilla Frasure of Mousie, Kentucky and Wander
Anderson of Kite, Kentucky; three stepsons, Jackie Shipley of Oklahoma, Van Dell
Shipley of Michigan and Larry Shipley of Garrett, Kentucky; one sister, Mamie
Sword of Ohio, four grandchildren, Hurl Dean Frasure, Rondall Lucas, Susan Jones
and Kristena Bentley; and three great-grandchildren, Austin Jones, Aunaka
Bentley and Nicholas Bentley. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday,
December 12, at Hindman Funeral Services Chapel, Hindman, Kentucky, with Kenneth
Ritchie and Bethel Bolen officiating. Burial followed in Bolen Cemetery,

Lucas, Eleanor Fairchild -Funeral services for Eleanor Fairchild Lucas
were conducted Thursday, April 13, 2006 from Everidge Funeral Home Chapel with
Rev. Jerry Utt and Rev. Tony Brown officiating. Entombment followed in the Green
Acres Memorial Park, Ermine, Kentucky. Eleanor Fairchild Lucas, daughter of the
late J.D. and Pearl Shackelford Fairchild, was born in Letcher County, Kentucky,
May 31, 1924. She entered eternal life Sunday April 9, 2006 at the Whitesburg
Appalachian Regional Hospital being 81 years, 10 months and 8 days of age at the
time of her passing.
Eleanor was married to Clyde B. Lucas September 9, 1940. She was a member of the
Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church in Whitesburg and was a loving wife, mother,
grandmother and sister. She is survived by her husband, Clyde B. Lucas of
Sandlick, Kentucky; one son, Steve Lucas and wife, Ritter, of Sandlick; two
daughters: Elizabeth Hoskins and husband, Rush, of Middletown, Ohio, and Janice
K. Sanders and husband, James of Louisville, Kentucky; and one sister, Faye
Holmes, of Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Also surviving are seven grandchildren
and thirteen great grandchildren along with a host of other relatives and
friends to mourn her passing. Eleanor was preceded in death by a grandson, Jimmy

Lucas, Maewood age 82 of Thornton, Ky died
on Wednesday, December 4, 2002. She was born on December 1, 1920, a
daughter of the late Nathan J. and Louisa Sergent Lucas. Funeral services
were conducted on Saturday, December 7, at Letcher Funeral Home, Whitesburg,
Ky., with Bill Craft officiating. Burial followed in Lucas Cemetery,
Thornton, Ky. under the direction of Letcher Funeral Home.

Lucas, Walter Sr., age 75, of Campbranch, Kentucky, died on Sat.
Sept. 18, 2004. he was born on May 9, 1929, the son of the late Millard and
Fannie Goins Lucas. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, September 21,
2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lighthouse Community Church. Burial will follow in the
