OBITUARIES

BLAIR, ELDER CHARLES--It is with unworthy feelings I attempt to write an obituary of Elder Charles Blair. He was born September 22, 1852, and died March 22, 1929, age 76 years and six months. He was married to Susanna Maggard while a young man. To this union were born ......boys and .....girls. His devoted wife and children survive him. He joined the Old Regular Baptist Church at Oven Fork July the second Saturday, 1872, and was ordained July the second Saturday, 1889, having manifested and exercised his call to the ministry for many years prior to his ordination. His theme was, "Salvation by grace." His untiring zeal for the cause of his Master caused him to travel through heat and cold to visit the churches, the sick and the afflicted, even when his own body had become so feeble as to cause him much pain and worry. Although he is missed by his family, his brethren and his friends generally---his friends being so pleasant---yet I am not uneasy about his future happiness, for I believe his soul is resting in the paradise of God, no more to sorrow, but awaiting the resurrection; when he will go forth with a glorified body, fashioned like unto Christ's glorious body.  I. CAUDILL, SAMUEL--My dear husband, Sam Caudill, who died July 23, 1929, in the hospital at Hazard, where he underwent and operation. He had been ailing for several years from stomach trouble. He told me several times that if it was not for leaving his family, he would be proud how quick his time would come. He joined the Indian Bottom Church of Regular Baptists in June 1915, where he lived a faithful member for more than fourteen years. He leaves six children and myself to mourn his loss. I have a hope and belief that our loss is his eternal gain. Our home is sad and lonely without him. He told me as we went to Hazard that anyone did not know what real love is until they had to part, but he said that we cannot always stay together. I have a hope that when I leave this world of trouble, that I will meet him where we will never have to part.

COOK, MARY--It is with a sad heart that I write the obituary of my dear mother, Mary Cook. She was the daughter of John and Sarah Profitt. She was born July 3, 1865, died April 12, 1928. She was married to Jake Cook, to whom was born eleven children, five living and six dead. She joined the Old Regular Baptist Church thirty years ago. She was a dear wife and loving mother, and a friend to all. The church misses her, and so does her children. We could not keep her any longer, for it was God's will to take her home, where there will be no more sorrow, sickness or pain; where God will wipe away all tears. She said she was ready to die any time, but hated to leave her children, and none of them could tell her that they would meet her. She asked for someone to pray again, but not to pray for her to get well, for she had lived long enough. She said that she had always prayed for God to let her live to see her children grown, and God had answered her prayers. She had often said her troubles would soon be over and all she dreaded was the sting of death. We have no doubt about her, for Christ said, "By their fruits ye shall know them," and she certainly did have fruits of a Christian. May God help us to meet her in that happy heavenly home, where there will be no more parting, sorrow nor pain, where death can never come. A place is vacant in our home which never can be filled.
