OBITUARIES

Submitted by Debbie Tamborski

BENTLEY, CURL In precious memories of my mother Curl Bentley, I will try to write an obituary of her life. She passed away January 22, 1948 being 72 years 10 months and 28 days old. She was married to Irvin Bentley March 4, 1892 and to this union was born 13 children. Father and five of the children preceded her in death, eight children are left. Also five brothers, 4 sisters and 26 grandchildren to mourn her loss. She joined the Mallet Fork Church of Regular Baptist in Sept. 1938 and lived in love and fellowship with the church until death. She always attended her church as long as she was able to go before she died, she prayed for Jesus to draw closer to her and she told us while she was praying how Jesus come and stood on her bed, her prayer was answered. Also while she was in the hospital one night she saw a vision of Angels, she tried to show them to me, but I could not see them. Now mother is gone to join those beautiful angels, she is with Jesus now at rest.
The world may change from year to year
Our lives from day to day
The loving memory of you dear mother
Shall never fade away
Always so true unselfish and kind
Few in this world your equal will find,
A beautiful life come to an end
You died as you lived everyone's friend.
Sleep on mother, sleep on mother,
You have been a soldier brave
We hope to meet you in the morning,
When you leave the dusty grave.

CAMPBELL, SARAH HALCOMB It is with a sad heart we try to prepare a short obituary of our precious mother, Sarah Halcomb Campbell, she was borned Feb. 12, 1874, died Nov. 17, 1946. She was 71 years, 9 months and five days old at her death. She was married to Stephen Campbell on Dec. 27, 1893. To this union was born 13 children, five have preceded her in death. She was a good mother and worth of much praise. She worked hard to raise her children. On the first Sunday in August 1911, she joined the big Leatherwood Church of Old Regular Baptist, was baptized first Sunday of Sept. 1911. She loved the church above all earthly things and she was a faithful member attended regular as long as she was able, and after she was disable to go she would cry because she could not go. She would invite the preachers and neighbors to come in and have church in her own home, also she would invite her neighbors to come in and sing those good old religious songs. "Jesus left his home in glory" and "Farewell Vain World" were two of her choice songs. Mothers calling left us the saddest home we ever have been in. We know in our minds that she is in Gods care, so children let us all ask God to help us make mothers home our home. The children by, I.T. DIXON

CAUDILL, PRESS It is with a sad feeling I will try to write an obituary of my dear old father Press Caudill. he was born Feb. 1, 1877, deceased Nov. 16, 1948. He was 71 years, 9 months and 16 days old. At an early age he married Susan Caudill and to this union was born 6 children, 3 boys and 3 girls, 4 of his children had outstripped him and gone on before and we hope they have gone to heaven. His wife Susan Caudill, deceased the year 1909 and we hope her soul is resting in Heaven. Father has been a hard working man all of his life, until he was stricken with a stroke about a year before his death. He never did regain his health after he was stricken. He joined the Old Regular Baptist Church, on Oct. 4, 1948 and was baptized Oct. 8, 1948 by Rev. Buddy Caudill. We sadly miss him in our home. He had two children, one boy and one girl, three brothers and a host of friends to mourn his loss. His daughter now living is Lulie Cornett of Gordon, KY and son Johnnie Caudill of Banks, KY. We hope our loss is heaven's gain.

MARTIN D. Martin D. -was borned Dec. 12, 1880 and died May 14, 1949, age 68 years, 5 months and 2 days.
He was married to Nannie Caudill 46 years ago. To this union 4 children were born, two girls and two boys all living. He professed a hope in Christ about 26 years ago and joined the Regular Baptist Church and was baptized May 17, 1942 in the fellowship of the Poor Fork Church. He loved to attend his church meeting times when able. He suffered with high blood pressure and heart trouble for 3 years. He beared it patiently never complaining. We all miss him so much but we feel assured that our loss is heavens gain, and I hope that by the help of God that the family circle will not be broken. Wrote by his daughter.--FLORA GILLIAM

COLLINS, DOW
-- was borned the 20 day of Jan. 1875, deceased this life at the age of 74 years 5 months and 23 days. He was the one of the family of the late Bob Collins and Lydia Adams Collins the last land mark of another pioneer family he was borned and grew to manhood at the mouth of Camp Branch of Rockhouse Creek, he was a grandson of the late Jimmie Collins, who was the first man to settle and build a home on Rockhouse Creek. When just a young man he married Nancy Ann Collins daughter of Watson and Sabrina Caudill. To this union was borned 17 grandchildren, 13 of which proceeded him in death. He leaves his wife and four children and a host of friends to mourn his passing. George Dishman, Josephine Lawson, Blanch Brashears and some grandchildren. He was a precious husband, father and grandfather. He made peace with God about 2 years before his death and joined the Regular Baptist, although he was in failing health he was faithful to fill his seat as long as he was able to get there. He will be badly missed by  his wife and children, by his neighbors and his church. Living closer to Big Cowan Church than to his home church, and faithfully attending, he will be almost if not quite as bad missed at Cowan as at Sandlick. Children you all know your father's request was to meet him in Heaven. I trust that you all take his advice, and repent, that the family circle be complete after this life is over. To serve Lord, does not take any joy out of your life here, but is the only thing that makes a man or woman able to have any real joy in this world, and the only way to make heaven their home. ELDRIDGE, CALLIE -born March 4, 1888, married April 13, 1914, died April 21, 1949. She left a husband and four children to mourn her loss. We hope heaven has gained one more jewel. She was sick for about 15 years and was in bed for two years, but she bore her sickness patient always asking for her Christian friends and preachers to come in and sing, preach and pray with her. Her husband, J. L. ELDRIDGE
(This is second entry for Callie Eldridge in same minutes.) She was born March 4, 1888 age 63 years. She was married to John Eldridge April 7, 1914 and to this union was borned seven children of which two have deceased. Still living are four daughters and one son. She professed faith in Christ about 19 years ago and has lived a Christian life ever since. Her church fellowship is with the Old Regular Baptist Church, Cumberland, Ky. She leaves a husband and children and many friends to mourn her loss, but we believe our loss is her eternal gain.

EVERSOLE, MAUDE -was born March 13, 1886, and deceased this life Sept. 27, 1948, being 62 years, six months, and fourteen days old. She was the daughter of Jonathan and Elizabeth Cornett. She was married to J. B. Eversole Jan. 26, 1905; and to this union was born six children, two boys, Cecil and John, and four girls, Ruby, Zola, Crystal and Violet. Zola and Violet preceded her in death several years ago. She professed a hope in Christ and never attached herself to any church; but was a strong believer in the Old Regular Baptist Church, and if she had lived, she would have been a member of this church. She lived a true and faithful Christian life until it pleased God to call her from earth to glory; and when the call came, she laid aside the old rugged cross in exchange for a crown in never fading glory. She leaves to mourn her passing a loving husband, and four children, and seventeen grandchildren one great grand child, five brothers and two sisters, and a host of other relatives, friends and neighbors to mourn her loss. We, her husband and children, believe with all our hearts that our loss is her eternal gain. Written by her oldest son. We the family, wish to express our thanks to everyone for their kindness and sympathy in our time of bereavement.

GIBSON, MARGARET It is with a sad and broken heart that I attempt to write an obituary of my dear mother-in-law Margaret Gibson. She was born Sept. 3, 1884, departed this life Feb. 24, 1949. She was married to Dan Gibson, Aug. 10, 1910, to this union was born 5 children, 4 girls and 1 boy. One descending before her death, the other four are still living. Mother joined the Old Regular Baptist Church. She was a member of the New Home Church. She was a true and faithful member, always filling her seat as long as she was able to go. She called all of her children to her bedside and talked to them. She asked all of us to live better and meet her in heaven some day. She told us not worry about her for because heaven was her home. She always prayed to God for her children and wanted them to live right. We hated so bad to give her up, but God knows best. I feel like our loss is heavens gain. The circle here on earth is broken, but if we will live like mother wanted us to, and follow in her footsteps it will be complete some day. There our hearts will not be aching for the one that we loved so dear, and our homes will not be lonesome for the one who was so near. Written by her daughter-in-law, KATHLEEN GIBSON

She professed a hope in the Lord Jesus Christ and joined the Old Regular Baptist Church and was baptized in full fellowship. She had her fellowship at the Little Bethlehem Church. She told her children before she died that she was going home and wanted them all to meet her there, and wanted them all to be good to each other and always remember mothers council. She was a hard working woman, worked hard all of her life and was always a good neighbor. She left her husband and six children, 3 boys and 3 girls and a host of friends to mourn her loss. We feel that she is resting in paradise waiting the redemption of her body, where they can both go home together. Now children if you ever expect to see mother you must get right with the Lord.

MY HOPES IN JESUS CHRIST
I'm thinking today of that home far away
Where there'll be no troubles there.
Where our loved ones are gone to grieve no more
And stand on the Golden Stair:
Our life is very short and so we should all prepare to go.
And meet with those we love in that beautiful home above.
God has gone on to prepare us a dwelling place there.
The gate is open to one and all. Who will on Him Call.
I have a hope that some day,
I'll join my savior above
And there I'll dwell forever more
On that bright and peaceful shore.

MARTIN, BROTHER SILAS -
It is with much unworthy feelings I write an obituary of my dear father in the flesh and Brother in the Lord I hope. Brother Silas Martin was borned April 19, 1873 and deceased this life April 1, 1947 age 73 years 11 months and 12 days old. He was the son of Wite and Clerisa Martin. He was married to Millie Hall in 1984 and to this union was born nine children, two of them preceded him in death. His wife was the daughter of Jeff and Clerinda Hall. He joined the Old Carr Church by experience and Baptism about 1937 and went by letter later on to the Little Home Church, and remained a faithful member until death. Through his two months sickness one day at the Stumbo Hospital we wanted him to stay there and he said no use for me to stay or why should I stay here when Christ is standing in the door waiting for me to come. And at home he was asleep and woke up and said some of the children of God says you don't know nothing. But I know that I am going to heaven for the Lord has showed me my future home and while he was leading him across the floor one day he said the floor was full of little speckled birds. He left a good widow and 7 children with 57 grandchildren and many relatives and friends to mourn his loss. But we hope our loss is Heavens eternal gain. We look forward to meet him in heaven to part no more. Gone but not forgotten. Written by Elder L. D. Francis, Red Fox, Ky., and dedicated by Millie Martin his weeping widow, and Coda Martin, his son.

MULLINS, BELVIA -was the daughter of Lee and Ida Mullins and was borned July 23, 1924. Was married to Vollie Mullins Oct 22, 1941. To this union was borned three children, all living. She professed a hope in Christ about two years before she died but got sick and never was baptized, but said she hoped to get well so she could be baptized. But God's call for her and she departed this life March 21, 1947. She leaves to mourn her, her husband and children, father and mother and sisters and a host of friends to mourn her loss. But we hope our loss is her eternal gain.  Written by a Brother in Christ, --H. L. RALEIGH
