BACK, ALTA-Alta passed from this life July 12, 1975. She was married to Elihu Back in the year of 1917. She was 79 years of age at her passing. On the way to the hospital she told her husband, "I have to leave you." He was a kind and loving husband and they had two daughters Juanita Blair and Nevada Cornett. Her two sons-in-law, Delbert Blair and Kirby Cornett did many good deeds for her, loved her dearly, did everything that loving hand could do. There are many good things I could say about her. She was a member of the Little Home Church for many years. She had two grandchildren, Clarence Blair and Helen Cornett, and one great grandchild. She was guardian for Dulcena Back, Joe Sumner, and myself, Hazel Dixon. Also my daughter, Brenda loved her and called her Maw. Horace Dixon, my husband did several good deeds for her. She was loved by many and was ill for 15 years. We feel our loss is Heaven's gain.
Written by her sister who hopes to meet her in Heaven,
Hazel Dixon

BANKS,  ADA -I will try to write the obituary of my Mother- in-law, Ada Banks. She was born May 26, 1892 died January 31, 1976. She left five sons and their wives and one daughter and her husband to mourn her loss and a host of grandchildren. She joined the Old Carr Regular Baptist Church and was baptized a few months before passing away. We all miss her so much. She is gone from our home, but she is still in our hearts. I hope we will all meet her some day.

BANKS, JAMES F. -James F. Banks was born May 1, 1882, departed this life January 26, 1976, being 93 years, 8 months and 25 days old. He was married to the daughter of Wilson Raleigh (Mary) who preceded him in death several years ago. To this union was born seven children, 5 boys and 2 girls, 3 preceded him in death. Uncle Jim joined the Big Cowan Church the 4th Saturday in July, 1914 and was baptized the next meeting, the 4th Saturday in August. He lived a good life and was a light unto his family and to his neighbors and his neighbors children. I visited Uncle Jim many times and it always pleased him for someone to come and talk with him; Uncle Jim always wanted to talk on the goodness of God. Many times he told me he was ready to go. The last few years of his life, he was not able to attend church. I feel Uncle Jim is gone where trouble cannot come; where that light out shines the sun. He is resting from his labors awaiting the redemption of the body. Children, I feel that the time is short when these bodies shall be awakened like Christ's most glorious body. We will have a new body that cannot die any more. Written by his nephew, Elder Wilson Banks

BLAIR,  SIM - was born on June 19, 1893, the son of Hiram and Jeannie Blair. He departed this life on earth April 16, 1976 at 6:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Way Hospital. He was united in marriage to Martha Jane Francis on March 11, 1918 and to this union ten children were born. He was preceded in death by his wife Martha Jane, three children and two grandchildren. He is survived by three sons: Claude Blair of Sassafras, John Clay Blair of Viper and Bobby Blair of Selma, Indiana, four daughters; Dorothy Amburgey of London, Kentucky, Opal Halcomb of Hindman, Georgia Jefferies of Madison Indiana and Geraldine Ely of Selma, Indiana. Also surviving are eighteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He placed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ in the year of 1941 and was baptized into the Little Home Old Regular Baptist Church. Written by one of his granddaughters' Yvonne Blair

BLAIR, SIM AND MARTHA JANE -I will try to write an obituary of my parents, Sim and Martha Jane Blair, who have passed from this life. Mother was born December 11, 1898 and departed from this life February 27, 1972. Dad was born June 19, 1893 and departed from this life April 16, 1976. Mother joined the Little Home Old Regular Baptist Church in August, 1939. Dad joined the same church in 1941. They lived a faithful life in their church and we feel like they are now with Christ and His angels. Their sorrows are over.
Written by their daughter,
Dorothy Amburgey

CAUDILL, BUFORD -It is with a sad and unworthy feeling that I attempt to write an obituary of our beloved brother in the Lord, Buford Caudill. He was the son of Sam Ray and Bessie Caudill. He was born July 1, 1925 and passed from this life June 12, 1976 making his stay upon earth 50 years 11 months and 13 days. Early in life he met and loved Clara May Haddix. They were married March 18, 1946 and God blessed them to have thirty wonderful years together. To this union was born 11 children. Of these children ten survives to mourn his passing, one daughter preceded him in death. Those that survive his passing are, Deanna Fouts, Isom, Ky.; Janice Hesling, Aston, Pennsylvania; Della Newman, Peebles, Ohio; Sharron Dotson, Jeremiah, Ky.; Buford Jr. Caudill, Jeremiah, Ky.; Jimmy Ray Caudill at home, Marvin D. Caudill at home, Orville James Caudill at home and Michael Lynn Caudill at home. Also surviving are his wife, Clara Mae, his father, Sam Ray Caudill, three brothers, Ray Caudill, Versailles, Ky.; Watson Caudill, Jermiah, Ky.; and Stanley Caudill, Berea, Kentucky; two sisters - Verna Mae Ray, Payola, Indiana and Evie Finley, Jeremiah, Ky.; also five grandchildren. He also leaves behind a great host of friends and relatives. While yet a young man, Brother Buford Caudill felt the need of a Savior and set out to seek the Lord, and after having repented of his sins, he felt that God, for Christ sake, forgave him for all that he had ever done. He, being obedient to the commandments of his Master, joined the Doty Creek Church of Old Regular Baptists in April of 1959, where he remained a faithful member as long as he lived. We feel that he was a strong pillar in the church, and will be greatly missed. He was a quiet spoken man by nature but when he was lifted up by the spirit, he loved to talk upon the Goodness of God. I know that his wife and children will greatly miss him. He loved his family dearly and was loved by them. Children, I know that his prayers for you and for the world of mankind right up to the end was that you would all make preparations to come to that Glory land to which he has now gone. The Lord loves your souls with the same love that your father loved you with and ready to give unto you eternal life if you will only follow where the enlightening spirit leads you. May we all meet around the throne of God, is my earnest prayer for you this day.
By an unworthy Brother in Hope, Clifton Hampton

CAUDILL,  DAVID D. -The son of Henry Caudill and Cinda Back Caudill, he was born July 30, 1895 and deceased January 21, 1975 making his stay on earth 79 years, 5 months and 22 days. As a young man David D. was called to serve his country in the U.S. Army. He served in France in World War I. There he was wounded which caused him to be frail of body for the rest of his life. He bore his afflictions with patience. In 1920, he met and married Atha Hampton. To this union was born four daughters - Edith Caudill, Jeremiah, Ky.; Hester Philips, Zenia, Ohio; Arizona Wisong, Dayton, Ohio; Anna Lou Yates, Richmond, Indiana; also five grandchildren survive. He leaves behind these children and grandchildren to mourn his loss. David D. was the most humble and friendly man I have ever known. He always had a kind word for everyone he met. To know him was to love him. Sister Atha preceded him in death by several years. After her passing he was cared for by his daughter and her husband, Edith and Winslow Caudill. I know they feel that they were fortunate to have been blessed by his company for so long. A few weeks ago he suffered a stroke. While in the hospital he told this writer that he believed that he had made the preparation to meet his wife, Atha, in Heaven. You children and grandchildren will greatly miss and mourn for him. If you could only view what he saw as he raised that feeble trembling hand to point upward as he lay dying. Yes, Edie, I believe he was viewing Heaven, Sweet Heaven. His work is done, his race is run, I feel that his spirit is now with God in Heaven. There he will be until the last day when God calls to them that are in the grave and they come forth. Then Soul and body will come together to be a perfect man and everly be with the Lord. I hope to meet with him in Heaven some day. I feel our loss is Heaven's gain. So children, if you want to go where Father has gone, make Daddy's God Your God. Get your ticket now while you have space and time for tomorrow may be too late. Written by a brother in hope, Clifton Hampton

COMBS, SEBERN -Born December 11, 1938 and died December 15, 1975. I will try to write the obituary of my Darling, husband, who only lived a short life of 37 years and 4 days upon this earth. He was known and loved by everyone who knew him. His survivors include: Mother, Catherine Combs, Father, Rev. Burley Combs, six brothers and four sisters. A host of nieces and nephews. Also his wife Avenell, two daughters - Barbara and Linda; four sons - Burley, Johnny, Elmer and Sebern, Jr. We miss him so very much, but I feel with all my heart that our loss is Heaven's gain. He used to sit and talk and cry for hours at a time telling me of the wonderful dreams and visions he had. He said he started out through this real rocky and narrow road, and there were stones and thorns all through it, and something kept throwing rocks and everything at him, but he kept on going, he came to the forks of the road and didn't know which way to go. He said one road led up a mountain and was pretty green and grassy so he went that way, he said he got about half way up the mountain and stopped and looked up and there was a big cloud of church members from the Clear Creek Regular Baptist Church, then he said he looked back down the hill and saw me and our baby girl and he told us to come with him, but he said we told him to go on and we would come later, so he followed the church crowd and when they got to the top it was the Old Regular Baptist Church on Clear Creek and he said when he walked in the door that they were all shaking his hand and hugging him. He said that Shilow and Cenia Combs took his hand and opened one of the side doors to the Church and when he looked out the door he said that there was the biggest and most beautiful blue pool of water that he had ever seen in his life. He said he never in his life felt so good and happy as he did then. This was only one of his pretty dreams, he loved to go to church and hear the old Regular Baptist preach. It is so very hard for the kids and me and all his family who loved him so very much to go on without him and he loved us so very, very much, and I feel with all my heart that he has a much better home than any of us left here upon this earth. I pray with all my heart that we all can meet him in heaven where we will never be. separated again. Written by His Wife, Avenell Combs

EVERAGE, GEORGE-On November 27, 1916 a son was born in the home of Thomas and Nancy Everage and they named him George and he was a blessing to this home. On May 22, 1976 death came to George and left many hearts sad. His stay on earth 59 years 5 months and 25 days. George was from a family of six children. His mother, father and one brother preceded him in death. His sisters - Myrtle Calton, Morehead, Ky.; Arizona Smith, Morehead, Ky.; Ollie Mullins, Littcarr, Ky.; and one brother, Sam Everage, Amburgey, Ky. Early in life he was married to Dorothy Polly and to this union were born five children, Marie and Nancy Everage, Austin, Indiana; Mary Everage, Austin, Indiana; James Everage, Campbellsville, Ky.; and Billy Everage, Amburgey, Ky. With his family, brother, and sisters, uncles, aunts, many friends and relatives we were made sad at his passing. George has paid the debt we all have to pay and according to his Testimony he is at rest. He didn't join the church nor was baptized in water but if he was baptized with the "Holy Ghost" and with fire he is at rest and under the alter of "God" waiting for a new body and will praise "God" forever more. Written for His Family By Elder H.B. Reedy

EVERAGE,  MAGGIE -She was born October 28, 1889 and died July 5, 1976 making her stay on earth 86 years 8 months and 7 days. Early in life she met and married Thee Everage and to this union was born 7 children; Lona Amburgey, Litt Carr, Ky.; Lola Sumner, Sellersburg, Indiana; Shelby Everage, Borden, Indiana; Burl Everage , Sellersburg, Indiana; Lois Gibson, Sellersburg, Indiana; Luly Perkins, Sellersburg, Indiana; Dewey Everage, Sellersburg, Indiana. There are also 24 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and a host of friends. In about 1949 she and her husband joined the Old Regular Baptist Church. The Little Home Church later set them apart as deacons. She will be missed by the Little Home and Lone Valley Churches which she served faithfully. She attended church as often as she could. When she struck sick, we took her to the hospital. Every day that she was able to talk much, she wanted to talk about the Pearly Gates. She said she saw them open wide for her. The last few days we went to see her, she would be praying for her children. To this family I would like to say that if you would like to go to the place where we think Mother is, you will have to pray for yourselves. We feel that our loss is Heaven's gain.

FIELDS, EMILY -I will attempt to write the obituary of my dear Grandmother, Emily Fields. Ma was called from this earth and I believe to her Heavenly home on February 23, 1976. Ma is missed so much by her family, friends and neighbors. But I believe our loss is her gain. Ma professed a Hope in Christ quite a while before she was received and baptized into the fellowship of the Regular Baptist Church at Cowan. I thank God that I had the privilege of washing Ma's feet in our Communion service. Emily Fields was the daughter of Mary Ann Caudill and Leck Roberts. She was born December 20, 1890. Emily met and married Mart Fields, who preceded her in death in 1962. To this union were born 13 children of which 8 preceded her in death. Surviving are Ella Maggard of Columbus, Indiana; Mary Fields of Clarksburg, Indiana; Irene Day of Day, Kentucky; Ray and Martin Fields of Day, Kentucky. 12 grandchildren, 29 great, grandchildren, one great, great grandchild. Ma is gone from our home but not from our hearts. Written by her Granddaughter and Sister in the Lord, Barbara Boggs

FIELDS, NOAH -Noah Fields passed from this life on July 17, 1976. Making his stay here on earth 67 years, 9 months and 6 days. Brother Noah was the son of the late Alford and Mary Ison Fields. Early in life Brother Noah met and married Sister Mary Eldridge Fields, who preceded him in death (August 29, 1973). To this union were born nine (9) children - Eunice Frazier, Loren Fields, Kelsey Fields, and Elsie Day all of Charlestown, Indiana; Opal Boggs, Bonnie Frazier, Alma Tindle, Vivian Frazier of Dongola, Kentucky and Nova Adams of Jeremiah, Ky. Brother Noah joined the Big Cowan Church of Regular Baptist April 15, 1970. Sister Mary Fields, his wife joined the same church some several years prior to the above date. Perhaps in 1948. However, shortly after Brother Noah came to the Church, he and Sister Mary were ordained as Deacons and served in this capacity until God called each of them home as we feel to live eternally in Heaven, where all is Peace, Joy and Happiness. We believe they were devout Christians and feel that the Church has suffered a great loss however our loss is their eternal gain.  Brother Noah, is survived by his wife, by a second marriage, Rena Vae Gilley Fields, nine children, twenty grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

HALL, MARGARETT - who was born October 1, 1903, died January 14, 1976, making her stay here 72 years 3 months and 14 days. She was the daughter of Bill and Liddie Thornsberry Gibson. She married Pharaoh Hall, May 20, 1930 and to this union was born seven children - four boys and three girls. Pharaoh and one son Dwaine, and brothers, George and Hiram preceded her in death. Left to mourn her loss is three sons - Don, Bill and Malcolm; three girls - Rheta Mae, Annis Faye and Lula Irene and three brothers - Dave, Kay and Virnes and one sister - Lizzie Mae Hall, eighteen grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives. Mom joined the Old Regular Baptist Church about twenty years ago. Anyone who knew Mom knows she let her light shine. She loved to go to Church and hear the old time singing and preaching. She went to church as long as she was able and when she became too ill to go she had her dear brothers and sisters come to her house to have church. She would talk all week about her meeting. Mom's faith and love for God was so strong and He helped her through so much sorrow and pain. She lived a faithful and obed- ient life until God decided she had suffered enough and we feel he called her home. Mom was a member of the Mt. Olive Church and dearly loved every brother and sister. We believe she has passed from death unto life. Like the song, we feel Mom died at her post. Written by her children At the request of her dear daughter, I'll write a few lines. She is not only missed in the home but oh how she is missed in the many churches. She was a bold soldier and stood for Old Regular Baptist. She was a friend to young and old alike. So children and friends if you will follow her good counsel, I feel you can meet her in Heaven.

Sister, thou wast mild and lovely,
Gentle as the summer breeze
Pleasant as the air of evening
As it floats among the trees.
Elder Murl F. Caudill

However feeling and believing he would be more content with the Big Cowan Church of Regular Baptist, Brother Bill came to us, the Big Cowan Church by letter from the Sandlick Church. Brother Bill was received into our fellowship with much love and tender care, to know Brother Bill was to love him. His passing has over shadowed us with much sorrow, however we believe our loss is his eternal gain. NICKLES, CALVIN -Brother Calvin Nickles was born November 11, 1891. Deceased from this life May 9, 1976, making his stay here on earth 85 years, 6 months and 9 days. He was the son of Will and Polly Ann Nickles. He was married to Ada Martin and to this union were born 10 children. Seven sons whose names are Alvin, Wilgus, Silas, Burly, Hubbard, Edgar and James David. The three daughters are Millie, Bulah, and Nadine. His wife, ten children, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives and friends remain to mourn his death. Brother Calvin Nickles belonged to the Little Home Church of Old Regular Baptist 42 years. He was a faithful member. While we are left to mourn his death we feel our loss here on earth is Heaven's gain. His Son and daughter-in-law  Edgar and Jewell Nickles

NICKLES,  SARAH -My heart holds many memories of a dear and loving Mother as I try to write an obituary of Sarah Nickles. She was born April 13, 1911 and departed this life January 17, 1976, being 64 years, 9 months and 4 days old. She was the daughter of Sam and Rachel Bowling. In 1933, she was united in marriage to Alvin Nickles, to them were born two children - one son preceded her in death. One is still living, she is Patsy Lou Madden at Amburgey, Kentucky. She also leaves a husband, 5 grandchildren and four great grandchildren, two brothers, four sisters and many friends and neighbors to mourn her passing. Mama joined the Regular Baptist Church up in 30 years ago. There is an empty place in our heart and home, an empty seat in the Little Home Church. Her seat was always filled as long as she was able to go. I want to say to the rest of the family, that Mama is just a step closer to the mansion that Jesus has waiting for her in Glory land. We can all meet her there by serving the same God she served so faithful for so many years. He is a powerful God, for he gave her strength to shout and pray for her children and everyone when she couldn't even feed herself or get out of bed. The last words I heard her say was, "Children be better to one another." I feel her suffering is over for in God's country there will be no sickness to afflict the body. I would like to thank everyone who was so good to come in and help us in that troubled hour. Written by her daughter, Patsy Lou Madden

RITCHIE, FRANK -It is with honor and many wonderful memories that I wish to write these words about my grand- father, Frank Ritchie. 17 Grandpa Frank was born May 29 in the year of 1882. He died at the age of 93 on January 24, 1976.As a young man he met and married Darcus Fuller, and to this union was born ten children. Grandpa was preceded in death by his wife, Darcus, two sons, Bruce and Bernice, and three infant daughters. The surviving members of his family are four daughters, Mae Singleton Prater, Polly Pelfrey, Amy Owens, and Dicie Young, and one son, Ernie. He also was survived by a host of grandchildren, great and great-great-grandchildren. As one of his grandchildren, I think I can speak for most of us saying he was a joy to be around, he was always cheerful and had such a good outlook on life in general. My grandfather was very serious in his moral and religious beliefs. He believed in the Old Regular Baptist Church and on September 20, 1953, he became a member of the Clear Creek Old Regular Baptist Church. Each time we were able to visit and be with Grandpa for the last five or six years of his life, he talked a great deal about his church, and the fact that he had lived a long time and he wanted to go home to be with his Lord. He talked much of his brothers and sisters in the Church, especially after he became unable to attend. He missed the fellowship of the preaching and singing, and was always happy when any of his brothers and sisters had time to visit and be with him. The last few months he lived, all he talked about was his belief in the Church and his Lord, and going to be with his Lord. I have written this at the request of my mother, Mae Singleton Prater Mae Singleton Prater, Daughter Jewell Singleton Richie, Granddaughter

YOUNG, ELIJAH -My Father, Elijah Young was born August 2, 1890 spending 84 years 10 months and 16 days on earth. May 18th at 4:45 A.M. at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital Jesus called him home. He gave his heart to Jesus several years ago and was a great believer in the old time salvation and rejoiced at the old time singing. He attended the Old Regular Baptist Church far and near as long as his health and circumstances would permit him to. He had several strokes which made his body weaker and his foot steps shorter. On May 18, 1975 he had his fatal one. After being disabled to go to church he would read his Bible and share his blessings with his companion Lourania Fuller Young to whom he was married 63 years and five months. They were happy years and they would talk of their hard struggles in this life but the love that bound them and their faith in their Lord. Nothing was too hard for them to face. My Mother being in very poor health and unable to go to church would tell him what great blessings she would get serving her Lord at home and they would rejoice together. She mourns his loss along with us three children - Troy Young and Martin Young of London, Kentucky, I, Alma Young at home, Airport Gardens, Hazard, Kentucky. Two grandchildren - David Martin Young and Judy Ann Young both of London, Ky. One sister, Dosha Combs of Fisty, Kentucky, two brothers - Fieldon Young of Quincy, Illinois and Kelly Young of Trinity, Kentucky. A host of relatives and friends. He was a wonderful father. His reward for all his hard struggles in raising us three children was hearing us say, "Daddy, we will meet you in Heaven."
Written by his devoted daughter, Alma Young
