Submitted by Alta Tidwell

Amburgey, Martha-With a sad and broken heart I will try to write the obituary of our beloved Mother who has gone from our home to live with God. She was the daughter of Hillard and Armelda Combs Smith and departed from this life April 12, 1979 at the Whitesburg Appalachian Hospital. Mom was born August 14, 1890 and was united in matrimony March 12, 1906 to Maryland Amburgey. Her husband, 3 children, Father, Mother, 2 brothers and 4 sisters preceded her in death. Left to mourn our loss, 1 brother William McKinley Smith of Smithsboro, Ky., 2 sons Israel, LaGrange, Ky., John D. of Red Fox, Ky., 2 daughters Pearl Eversole of Hindman, Ky. and Nettie Watts of Garr Greek, Ky. 1 daughter in-law Cora, whom she loved dearly. 1 son in-law Alonzo Watts. 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. In 1912 Mom joined the Old Regular Baptist Church and lived a faithful member until death, Old Garr Church was her life and loved her brothers and sisters. We thank God for giving us such a wonderful and loving Mother and blessed us to keep her 88 years, 4 months and 12 days. Mom is gone but her sweet memory will always remain in our minds and hearts. Oh how I loved and will miss her. One morning around 4 o'clock she told me she had to leave us and not grieve after her because she had a better home waiting where there's no sickness or troubles and she raised her hand up and said, "Sweet Jesus take me home." I could write on and on about my precious Mom but all who knew her life told it all more beautifully than I ever could. So sleep on Mom I hope to meet you again some day in heaven. A broken hearted daughter, Nettie Watts

Catron,  Lucinda-With a sad and humble feeling, I will try to write the obituary of Lucinda Catron. She was the daughter of David Jessie and Bettie Madden. She came into their home as a little flower on September 10, 1915. Passed from this life March 20, 1978. Her stay on earth 62 years 6 months and 10 days. Her father, mother and 2 sisters preceded her in death. Leaving 2 sisters; Lottie Nickles, Amburgey, Kentucky and Tenara Hunt, Portsmouth, Ohio, to mourn her passing. Early in life she was married to Walter Catron and to this union were born 7 children. Four sons: J.D. Catron, Austin, Ind., Willard Catron, Austin, Ind., Clarence Catron, McDowell, Ky., and James Catron Amburgey, Ky. Daughters. Edwina Wheeler, Salem, Ind., Betty Collins and Herma Catron, Amburgey, Ky. Twelve grandchildren. All left with broken hearts mourning for Mother, their dearest friend on earth. Sister Lucinda joined the Little Home Church many years ago but never was baptized, but if she was baptized with the Holy Ghost, her soul is at rest today. Now to her family and many friends, Sister Lucinda has gone the way of all the earth. Death is an appointment of God but we feel she is resting in the arms of Jesus waiting for the redemption of a new body that won't grow old or ever get sick, but will praise God forever around the snow white throne.. Family we believe Mother is in heaven, her soul under the alter. If you want to meet Mother in Heaven, please repent, make peace with God in this life and God will take care of you wherever you are. All of whom are living. She leaves 39 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Louisa joined the Indian Bottom Church a few years after Daddy. They attended regularly when able. After he died in April, 1964 she could never go to church much. She had several of the children to raise by herself and was in poor health. She was a good and loving mother to her family, her grandchildren and a good neighbor. She had a ready smile for everyone. She will be missed by her family, friends and people. We hope our loss is Heaven's gain. Written by her stepdaughter Josephine Whitaker

Everage, Dorothy C.-With much sadness and the help of God, I will try to write the obituary of my sister. Dorothy Cornett Everage, the oldest child of Elder Neil Cornett and Sister Maggie Combs Cornett. She was born May 18, 1917. She married G. St. Joe Bundy and he was killed in France a few months before their daughter, Mary Jo Bundy was born September 9, 1944. Then later in December, 1946 she became the wife of the late John Everage the former owner of the Hindman Funeral Home. To this union was born one daughter, Johnnie Sharon Everage. Dorothy became very ill July 28th and was in the hospital a few days. While in the hospital, I talked with her. She told me to not worry about her, she had a better home to go to. On August 2nd I feel that the Lord came and took her home where she could be with her mother and dad and her husband John. I feel just another flower was added to his bouquet. She leaves to mourn her loss two daughters: Johnnie Sharon and Mary Jo Peeper. Four grandsons: Wade, John, Ron, Ryan and one granddaughter, Kari Leanne. Five sisters; Orka Everage, Ruth Teeters, Glenna Short, Yvonne Cornett, Phyllis Childers and three brothers; Bruce Cornett, Noah Cornett, Robin D. Cornett and many friends and relatives. Sister Janice Hemminger preceded her in death. Dorothy was loved by many. She touched the hearts of many through the 30 years of teaching school in Knott and Perry Counties. She will be missed by those who knew her. We can say our loss is Heaven's gain. She loved to visit the sick and take them fruit baskets. I made many trips with her each year at the time when we were celebrating the birth of Christ. I feel she wanted to leave a light to shine for her children and those who knew her. I'd like to say to her children and sisters and brothers and relatives. We have lost a good and faithful sister. But there is a time we will all have to pass from this life. How is your case? Are you ready to meet the good Lord and go on to that good land where there will be no pain or sorrow over there? If you haven't made that peace calling, I wish you would start before it is too late. You will have to meet him like she did begging and pleading for his mercy on your soul. I will have to end this by saying, "Dorothy, sleep on I'll meet you over on the peaceful shore where we can give God the praises forever more."
Written by Sister Orka Everage

She was a faithful member until death. She was always ready to go to church and always filled her seat when she was able and most of the time when she wasn't able. The last few times she came to church she was helped into the church house, she wasn't able to walk. Sister Angeline was loved by everyone who knew her. She will be missed greatly by her children and stepchildren and by the Maggie Memorial Church. There are so many good things we could say about Sister Angeline. She always loved to come to my house and stay with us. We would always sit around and talk about the good old church. I really enjoyed her staying with me. I feel our loss is Heaven's gain. I want to say to all her 'children, fall out with sin and live with Mom again in Heaven.

March 29, 1979 Early Morning
Many times I sit and wonder, about the things I hear a voice whisper Let go, and leave it all with me. Many tears of joy and sorrow, upon my pillow each night I lay; Knowing Jesus is beside me5 Guiding me gently along the way. Now the time is drawing nigh; For his word to be fulfilled, Jesus gently soothes the heartache, As I surrender to His will.
June 5, 1979 Early Morning
Down a foggy stretch of highway, came a speeding car that day; then a call from heaven's portals Jesus came and took her away. Let us look to God the Father and His Son that loves us so, He will come in all His glory; so be ready child to go.
