OBITUARIES

Provided by Peggy Mullins Brock

Anderson, Van-With much sadness, I wi11 try to write a short obituary of my dear husband. Van Anderson was born June 9, 1901. He passed away May 18, 1984. He was 82 years 11 months and 22 days old at his passing from this life to a better home. He was the son of James and Sarah Bentley Anderson. His father, mother, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters preceded him in death. He was married to Stella Hall Anderson in June, 1933 and to this union no children were born. He leaves to mourn his loss: his wife, 2 brothers, 5 sisters, a lot of nephews and nieces, and a lot of friends.

Amburgey, Gay-It is with a sad heart that I will write the obituary of my father, Gay Amburgey. He was the son of Willie and Lillian Amburgey. Born on November 4, 1947 and passed away February 4, 1982 at the age of 34 years and 3 months. He has left here to mourn his passing one daughter - Tamara Amburgey, and one son - Stephen Gay Amburgey, his parents - Willie and Lillian Amburgey and two brothers - Donnie Amburgey and Ronnie Amburgey. Along with a host of friends and relatives. His short life was a well-lived one. He was a very honest man and a strong believer in Christ, though he never joined the church. He was a very devoted family man, and always put everyone else's needs before his. Many mourn his passing, but believe he is in the hands of God. His troubles and worries are over. We can only try and hope to follow in his footsteps.

Back, Angeline-Since my family circle has been broken I wi11 try to write the obituary of my dear sister, Angeline Back. She was the daughter of the late I James W. and Vina Caudill Hampton. Angeline was 1 born March 28, 1899, deceased January 13, 1984, making her stay here 84 years, 9 months and 16 days. Early in life she met and married Henry Back to this union were born 5 sons. Evert Back preceded her in death at a infant age. She leaves k sons to mourn her passing and her beloved husband. The children are Elmer Back, Carson Back, Dennis Back all of Ohio and Kenneth Back of Colorado. 2 sisters, Ritter Caudill and Ranie Caudill of Jeremiah, Kentucky; two brothers, Carl Hampton and John Hampton of Jeremiah, KY. Angeline was a good companion and loving mother. She loved so well to cook extra meals and call her children in to eat with her. I am sure they feel at a loss since their mother has been called away. She had been sick almost two years. She would pray and beg the Lord to come get her, said there was nothing in her way. She had made peace with the Lord years ago. So children now I know you loved your mother, and if you ever want to meet her again you must repent of your sins. So may God Bless you all.
Mr. & Mrs. Monroe Caudill

Combs, Rob-With a sad and lonely heart, I will try to write the obituary of my daddy, Rob Combs. He was born June 13, 1896 and died November 19, 1983 making his stay here on earth 87 years 5 months and 6 days. He was married to Doshia Young. To them was born 7 children. 5 boys: Alvin Combs, Enon, Ohio, Kelly Combs, Fairborn, Ohio, Earnest Combs, Rome City, Indiana, R.J. Combs, Rome City, Indiana and Ruebel Combs, who preceded him in death. 2 girls: Grace Fields, R2, Hazard, and Cora Messer, R2, Hazard. He belonged to Clear Creek Old Regular Baptist Church for 34 years. He was faithful as long as he was able to go. A lot of times he went when he wasn't able. He loved to sing the songs of Zion. He would always give his children good counsel as well as the neighbors' children. He was a deacon of the Clear Creek Church for 33 years. He would say that he believed he had a better home than this. He loved everybody and he loved to have church at his home. His home is so lonely now without him. By the help of God, I hope to see him again some day.

Francis, Simeon-By the help of the Lord, I will try to write an obituary in remembrance of a beloved brother in the Lord, Brother Simeon Francis. Brother "Sim" was born May 16, 1897 and passed from this life August 20, 1981. His days on earth were 84 years, 3 months and 4 days. Not knowing the names of his parents, his wife or the loved ones who preceded him in death, he was survived by a brother - Burnam Francis and a sister, Jessie Lee Mungo. Brother Sim left behind many friends and brothers and sisters in the Lord who loved him and mourn his passing. He loved everyone. Brother Sim was a member of the Little Home Church for many years. He fulfilled his calling to the ministry well. He was faithful in many things and left us that blessed hope that he will receive a crown of glory in that day. Brother Sim spent his last years in a rest home. It was such a pleasure to visit with him. His mind was always on the Lord. He talked of how the Lord worked with him and showed him his lost condition and how through forsaking his sins and turning to the Lord in prayer, God lead him to repentance. We would take him to church with us when he was able to go. The last time he went, he lead in prayer and thanked the Lord for all His goodness. He did not request to be able to go out to church again as he had done before. I believe he understood his time was short and he was willing to go on home. We do not worry about Brothers Sim's soul for we feel he is at rest. But sinners everywhere who are not at peace with God, get ready to meet the Lord while you still have time and opportunity. Nickles, Sarah Elizabeth-It is with much sadness that I will try to write this obituary of a Dear Mother. Sarah Elizabeth Nickles, daughter of the late Tommy Adams and Susanna Cornett Adams, was born at Whitesburg, KY on February 1, 1894. She passed from this life December 17, 1983 being 89 years, 10 months, and 16 days of age. Lizzie as she was known by all her family and friends, married James Wesley Nickles in December 1912 at Whitesburg, KY. She was preceded in death by her husband on May 23, 1965. They had one daughter, Lula Mae Combs. Lizzie was a member of the Big Cowan Church for many years. She was a faithful member, until sickness hindered her from going to church. She went to live with her daughter in Ohio. I can sympathize with Lula Mae for I too have lost a precious Mother. I feel if Sister Lizzie could speak she would want her love ones to repent and meet her in that beautiful home that God has prepared for all that love and trust in Him. I could speak many words of this dear Mother, but her family knew her better than anyone else. Lizzie was also survived by two sisters, Lola Brown and Zola Gibson of Tiffin, Ohio. She has left to mourn her passing a precious daughter, 5 grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren, along with a host of relatives and friends. But we feel our loss is Heaven's gain.
Written for her Daughter and Family A Sister in Hope, Mozell Cornett

Patrick, George-With much sadness as I attempt to write an obituary of Brother George Patrick. Brother George was born on May 26, 1917- He deceased from this life on November 19, 1983- He was 66 years, 5 months and 25 days of age at the time of his death. He was the son of the late Adam Patrick and Li la Jones Patrick. He was married to Reva Prater Patrick on October l4, 1939. He left his broken-hearted wife and seven children to mourn his passing. He left 4 boys - Leon and Mitchell of Ligonier, Ind. George Edward and David of Emmalena, KY; 3 girls - Mavis Owens of Ligonier, Ind., Gladys Carter of Emmalena, KY and Priscilla Owsley of Vest, Kentucky. He also left 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. One little grandson preceded him in death on April 8, 1983- He also leaves 2 brothers and one sister, a host of nieces and nephews, 2 sisters-in-law, A daughters-in-law, 3 sons-in-law, a host of cousins, friends and neighbors and a great host of Brothers and Sisters in that Blood Washed Army. He dearly loved everyone and he was always pleased to see them come to visit us. He always wanted something cooked to feed everyone. We had church at our house so many times and he enjoyed that so much. Brother George, I feel, was among the true believers. He joined the Old Regular Baptist Church the fourth Sunday in July, 1955 and was ordained into the ministry to try to preach God's Gospel on May 23, 1959. He felt that God had called him and constrained him to go and warn poor sinners of the danger of living and dying in their sins. There are so many things I could write, but you all know without me trying to write it down now, the life he tried to live. He stood for sound doctrine, and good order in the church and the good old fashioned way. He loved the old church so well. The last time he was at the Little Maggie Memorial Church alive, at the end of the service, he said, "my cup has been run over all day." Not knowing it would be his last time in life to be there. Just one week later he was gone. I believe he is gone to that great beyond where no troubles and heart attacks can come. It's so lonesome here not at home, at church, in the neighborhood, and an empty place at the table that no one else can fill. I want to say to you children, you know Daddy can't come back to us here on earth no more. But if we can make it right with God, while here on earth we live, with God's help we can all go where I feel that Daddy has gone. There is one thing for sure you have to repent of your sins and be born again before you can ever see what it looks like in Heaven. Not only to my children, but to everyone that has not made peace with God, do so before it's too late. You know there is no repentance after death. Brothers and Sisters, it grieves me sore to see this name, after so many years, leave the Minute Book never to be seen any more.
