OBITUARIES

Provided by Peggy Mullins Brock

Combs, Alice Crawford Young -Born 1899 and died 1988. She was the daughter of Lou and Dulcina Crawford, she was brought up in Perry County, Kentucky. At age eighteen she married my father, Willie B Young, and came to Lotts Creek where she spent most of her adult life. They had seven children of which four preceded them in death. She leaves to mourn her loss, two daughters, Oatha Combs Gibson and Norma Combs; and one son William Henry Young. A host of grand and great grandchildren. Early in life Mother felt the need of a Savior. She became a devoted Christian, joined the Clear Creek Old Regular Baptist Church. She was faithful to attend as long as she was able. She loved the old songs. Salvation, Oh The Name I Love was her favorite. She had her own funeral arrangements made. This was a song she requested. Mother was a kind and gentle person. Caring for my father for three years after he fell from a coal tipple. She never lost her patience with him. He died in 1936. In 1938 she married Robert Combs. He also preceded her in death. With the help of Robert and others Reverend Nathanial Young built a small church house. She took great pride in keeping the cemetery and church clean and neat. At church time she always cooked and helped feed the people. In January of 1988 she became very ill and spent some time in a Dayton, Ohio hospital. After returning home in March she spent only a few days at home. She fell and spent the rest of her time here with me. She would often speak of going home. I took her home one time for a short visit. In August she spent 10 days in the hospital here in Hazard. On Sunday, one day after her discharge she had severe chest pain. After medication was given she slept for a long time. She said goodbye to my brother, and his wife Pattie, who was visiting. After they left I spent some time with her. She told me she was going home. At Five ten P.M. she again had severe chest pain. She looked up and said I am going home. They have come for me. Then she said I'm going home. I believe that Angels came that day. They folded Mother in their arms and she is now resting with Jesus. I can only say? sleep on Mother. I will see you when He calls me to rest. Mom I miss you so.
Your daughter, Norma Combs

Hampton, Larry Trevis - passed from this life Tuesday, September 27, 1988 at Roxana, KY from a fatal accident. He was born September 4, 1966 making his stay on earth 22 years, 23 days at the time of his passing. Trevis was the son of Larry and Mary Ann Campbell Hampton. Besides his parents the survivors are his wife, Glenda Belcher Hampton; his paternal grandparents James T. and Emma Pauline Hampton of Ulvah, KY, his maternal grandparents Benton and Sarah Campbell of Hallie, KY: one sister Melanie Lee Hampton of Ulvah, KY and his great paternal grandparents Wendell and Maggie Brown of Ulvah, KY along with a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. Trevis was such an humble person in life. He was a joy to know. I had such a warm feeling as I stood over him in the funeral. God gives us understanding that comforts our hearts that our love ones have gone to rest. God makes no mistakes. He takes the one that will do the most good to those that are left behind. I hope this will be a warning to his classmates that are left behind as he could have taken any of you just as he took Trevis. Would you have been ready to meet him in peace? I know from experience that it is hard to bear the natural ties when they are: broken but God can help us to do that. I hope that God will comfort those that are left behind and will let us understand that God knows best.

Mullins, Everett - was born December 7, 1926 to the late Lindsay Mullins and Vina Mullins. He passed from this life December 11, 1987. Making his stay here on this earth 61 years and 4 days. He met Myrtle Denney Mullins and they were married in 1951. Five children were born to this union. Danny Mullins of Waynesburg, KY; Patsy Dowell, Waynesburg, KY; Charles Mullins, Crab Orchard, KY; Phyllis Smith of Stanford, KY and Sandra Mullins lived only seven days and went to live with the angels in Heaven. He had two brothers who preceded him in death. Chester Mullins and Walter Mullins. Three sisters remain. Marie Barnard, Scottsburg, Indiana, Ruby Denney of Columbus, Indiana and Lillian Amos, Seymour, Indiana. Everett never joined a church here on earth. He believed in the Old Regular Baptist and we believe he was added to that church that the Lord is coming back for very soon. He told Myrtle he believed the Lord had forgiven him of his sins in 1981. He attended the Crab Orchard Church of Old Regular Baptist as long as he was able to go. He seemed to enjoy the preaching and singing so very much. We believe he is enjoying the singing of angels over in that happy land where cancer and death don't come. When I would visit him at his home he would greet me with a smile although he would be so sick. So dear family you that have never made peace with God. I pray that you will repent of your sins and be born again so you can go to heaven when this life is ended.
