Castle, Carew   It is with deep sadness and sorrow that I attempt to write this obituary of my beloved husband. Carew Castle was born May 16, 1907, in Magoffin County, the son of Elbert Castle and Neria Shepherd. He passed from this life March 2, 1989. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by seven half-brother: Ark, Morgan, Malcolm, Ekro, Lacy, Ollie, and Willie Castle. Two half sisters: Pokie Risner, Pearley Castle, and also one son, Vaughn Castle, in October 1956 preceded him in death. On May 7, 1926, he was united in marriage to Nora Shepherd and she survives. Also surviving  are four sons: Mitchell Castle, Pierceton, Indiana, Manus Castle, Louisville, Ky, Danny Castle, North Manchester Indiana, and Carter Castle of Gunlock, Ky. Four daughters survive: Mrs. Harley Shepherd, Gunlock, Ky, Mrs. Hellen King, Greenfield, Ind, Mrs.. Hazel Bardley, Liberty Milles, Indiana, Mrs. Mazie Harris Warsaw, Indiana, and one foster daughter, Mrs. Perlia Hale of Ray. Ohio. Also surviving are four sisters: Perlia Howard, Prestonsburg, Ky, Mrs. Virgie Hicks of Gunlock, Ky, Gracie and Birtha Castle of Indiana, thirty-three grandchildren and thirty-one great-grandchildren. Carew spent most of his life on Brushy Fork, in Magoffin County, making his living and raising his family by farming. A loving husband and devoted father, he will be sadly missed by those that knew and loved him.Carew has left with his family and friends a testimony that he had accepted Christ as his personal savior and with this testimony they can believe that though this earthly life is over, he has just begun his eternal one in his Heavenly Home. H e always said he believed in the Lord and he loved the Old Regular Baptist Church.
Oh Dad, you broke our Hearts
When you went away.
Oh how it hurts to know you couldn't talk to us,
But the most important thing, was the squeeze of your hand
Showed us you were saved.

Click, Virgie--Grandma  was born December 25, 1902 to the late William and Susie Madden Huff. On February 26, 1919, she
was united in marriage to Frank Click. To this union were born seven children. Poppy and one daughter Holly preceded
her in death. Left to mourn are, daughters Shirley Huff, Mousie, Ky; Aline Rowe and Genieve Ramey, McGuffey, Oh; Wanda
Lee Huff, Lexington, Ky; two sisters Allie Moore of Hazard, Ky and Lina Combs of Ohio. 13 grandchildren, 23 great grand-
children and six great-great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Grandma joined the  Old Regular Baptist Church on May16, 1948 and was baptized by Elder E.H Howard and Elder A.L. Coburn. Of her nearly 87 years on earth, she lived 41 1/2 years as a faithful church member.  As I was lying on my bed asking the  Lord to help me to think of things to write, I started to remember Grandma was one of the kindest, gentlest and most soft-spoken person I have ever known. She never spoke ill of anyone. She was easy going, always had time to counsel and advise us children. I remembered as I'm sure the rest of the family does, her going out to chop wood, milk the cow and feed the chickens. I remembered her swing on the front porch in her rocking chair striking matches on the nail...head on her chair arm to light her pipe. I remembered  the times when her children would gather in and cook up a big meal, everybody talking at the same time how the feeling of happiness and love flowed from breast to breast, and how Grandma would always ask to make sure everybody had something to eat.  I remembered her reading  the Bible and telling me stories and I remembered how they used to walk from the head of Bear Fork to church. Now as we come to the end and close the book on Grandma's life memories of her are all that we have left. But most of all, I know that she would want us to remember that she was a Christian, to love and serve one another, to love and serve God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, to prepare to go where I truly believe she has gone. I know that she  would want the brethren to feel free to preach the word to her family. We all know how she lived  and we'll miss her very much, but her life has proven that our loss
is Heaven's gain.
Written by her: grandson and brother in the Lord and her great-grandson, Buford Huff and Scotty Francis.

Collins, Artie With the help of God, I will try to write an obituary of our loving mother Artie Collins. She was born October 24, 1902. She was the daughter of James L. and Sally Tuttle. She died October11, 1989. She was married to Siefas Collins on May 22, 1922. Unto this union were born seven children, three of whom have preceded her in death; Virgie King, Irene Storie, and Brother Bill Collins. She was also preceded in death by one grandchild; Joy Lynn Collins Her surviving children are: Ermlee Collins, Brother Roy Collins, and sister Hazel Pullman all of Plymouth, Ohio, and sister Verda Shepherd of Greenwich, Ohio.  She also raised Dellie King of Plymouth, Oh. She has one surviving sister Marie Stumbo of Willard, oh, and two brothers I.B. Tuttle of McDowell, Ky and Wrile Tuttle of Willard, Oh. She leaves behind 29 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. She joined the Old Regular Baptist Church on September 4, 1934, and lived a true Christian life. She always went to church regularly until she wasn't able to go. She enjoyed it so much when the Brothers would come into her home and hold prayer with her. In her last days she was so sweet and humble, it seemed like she just wanted the children to know how much she loved us and wanted us to be around her. She always enjoyed company so much; she was always so good to cook and wait on anyone that came to her home. She was a good light to the young Sisters in the church. People weren't around her very long until they knew she was a Christian woman. I'll never forget the time she had an operation I was about 11years old and they didn't think she would live. She prayed God to bless her to live to raise her children and she didn't want them to fall into someone else's hands who would not raise them and teach them about the Lord.  I can remember hearing her tell that she was unconscious for about nine days and when she
came to, the leaves on the trees seemed to be praying. The Lord blessed her to raise us children.
We can all be thankful to have had such a mother. She loved her grandchildren and Bertha Lynn
and Terry, and all the children. She worried about them all. If you ever see Mama again you will
have to fall out with sin and turn to the blessed Lord. That is what she would have wanted me
to tell you all. She loved everyone of you. She loved her daughters-in-law, Dolores, Ellaree,
and Joyce, and also her sons-in-law, David, and Mitchell. She loved them as her own. Everybody was good to help her in her last days. My God bless each and everyone who helped in anyway.
Written by her daughter and sister in the Lord Verda Shepherd.

Collins, Curt I will try to write a short obituary of Bro. Curt Collins, son of Riley and Annie Collins. He was born September 16, 1912 and deceased this life August 16, 1990, making his stay here 77 years and 11months. He married Mazil Damron September 19, 1934 and to this union were born 11 children, 4 boys Orris, Ralph, Jerry, and Bill 5 girls: Josephine Case, Nancy Kidd, Patricia Sue Boyd, Brenda Howell and Kathy Kidd, all now living. Bro. Curt leaves his family, as well as 7 brothers Oscar, Bill, Joseph, Ted, Andy, Ervin, and Rushie; 2 sisters Margaret Newmaker and Susie Kimbler, along with a host of friends to mourn his passing. Bro. Curt lived most of his life on Little Mud Creek and was a retired coal miner who worked hard to raise his family. God blessed him to see them all grown and out on their own. Bro. Curt and sister Mazil had 45 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 6 step-grandchildren and8 step-great-grandchildren. Bro. Curt joined the Old Regular Baptist Church July 28, 1951, and was baptized by J.P. Hall. He was a good member, never causing the church any trouble and will be greatly missed.  He has been in poor health for some time and doctors recently found he had cancer. He was blessed to be able to get around and talk until he went to sleep the morning of August 16,1990, when God called him home. I believe he is at rest and will awake in the morning of the Resurrection with all the family of God. To Bro. Curt's children be good to Mother and not forget how Dad has lived and where he put his light, in the Old Church. May God bless you all and give you the love that Dad had, We will all miss him.

Collins, Elizabeth (Terry) Proverbs 31:10 "Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies She stretcheth out her hand to the poor, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
She looketh well to the way of her household and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised." What other words describe Sister Lizzie Collins more than that scripture? All who knew her knew no other lady to be more thoughtful than she was. Surely her motto was Jesus first, others, than me. I have seen her go to the shelves and the freezer to make up a needy basket; she didn't even have to know the person. Her love was there, always wanting to help others. She was a devoted, loving, dedicated wife and mother. Her family was her pride and joy. Oh! How she loved her children, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren. She cherished the time she was able to fix their special favorite food for each of them. She was always there for them!  She was born in the mountains of Kentucky near Hindman on March 22, 1905,to the late Billy Terry and Nancy Reynolds Terry: Joining the family were brothers Rochie Terry, Elder Sam Terry, and Howard Terry. Her sisters were Maudie Maggard, Leatha Terry, and Freda Gibson. She was married to Tip Collins on August 18, 1922.He went home to be with the Lord in April 1981. They were blessed to have one daughter, Mrs. Milt (Gwen) Obitts of Elyria Ohio. They had four sons: Clyde and Shirley of Bellevue, Washington, Glenn and Jessie of Whittier, California, Desi and Barb of Elyria, and Clayton and Barbara of Elyria, Ohio. She has 14 grandchlidren13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.   Sister Lizzie retired after working many years at the East Haven Nursing Home in Elyria, Ohio. She would often work late into the night at home as well, doing chores to make life more comfortable for her family. In 1950 after she and her husband became born-again believers in Jesus Christ, they were baptized into the Old Regular Baptist Church. Before coming to Pleasant View in 1984, her membership was at the Little Rebecca Church in Plymouth, Ohio,  where she and Brother Tip served as deaconess and deacon. She served her duty well as long as she was able to do so. She was very dedicated to the church; even though she would make long journeys to visit other sister churches on Sunday mornings, she was always ready to go to Pleasant View on Sunday evening. She never seemed to get tired.  She was such an inspiration to everyone. Even though she went through many surgeries, she was always a fighter, pushing to get well. When we all learned she had cancer, we just asked God to let her pains be few. During the four days and nights that she was bedfast, she let us know she had very little discomfort. On September 30, 1989, a beautiful autumn evening, when everything was quiet and still just after midnight, God sent His Angels to her home in LaGrange, Ohio and said It's time to come home. When we have accepted God's love and forgiveness by faith in Jesus Christ, death becomes merely a Homecoming.   She went Home to Heaven, a city without pain, without sorrow, without death. A city which glories in having Jesus for its King, angels for its guards, and whose citizens are saints. Physical death is the separation of the soul from the body. While it seems to end all, basically nothing has been lost for the believer, death is just the gate to everlasting life. The things seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. Sister Lizzie known too as Granny Lizzie will live on in many hearts. She will be missed, but the memories we all have cannot be erased. I could tell of the many wonderful times we have spent together down through the years, of the many, many kind deeds she did for us, but God knows all about them. In 1950 she began to plan for her trip "Home", and as her youth slipped away, she looked forward to that Heaven bound journey.  All of us will make a journey. When the sun is sinking behind the clouds and the day is dark. look forward and make preparations to meet her again, where parting cannot come. She gave her love unselfishly, good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over." To know her was to love her. We were all honored to have known someone as loving as Sister Lizzie Collins.
Loved and missed by  Sister Marjorie Slone

Cox,  William and Myrtle It is with immense grief and sadness that I attempt to write with the help of
our Lord these obituaries of our departed and beloved brother-in-law and sister Elder Bill Cox and Sister Myrtle. Bill was born May 17, 1906 and Myrtle came into the world on December 20, 1905. Bill passed away February 24, 1990 and Myrtle departed from this life on earth September 5, 1990.
Both of our dearly beloved grew up in Floyd County, Kentucky. Bill was the son of John and Florence Martin Cox, Myrtle was the daughter of Robert L.. Newsome and Phena Hamilton Newsome. In early life Bill and Myrtle met and married. To this union eight children were born, five sons and three daughters.Their oldest son, Paul Gene Cox preceded them in death. The following children are left to mourn their passing along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren great-great-grandchildren and beloved friends and brothers and sisters of the old regular Baptist church. The sons are Palmer, Auttis and Carles of Melbourne, Florida and McClellan of Americus, Georgia. The daughters are: Jeraldene Willis and Loretta Hebb of Melbourne, Florida and Glenna Von Ville of Lewisburg, Ohio. Bill is survived by one sister, Evelyn Caudill. Myrtle is survived by five sisters; Melpha Tackett, Jean Williamson, Ethel Fitzgerald, Audrey Rainey and Edythe Luxmore. Bill and Myrtle were members of the Old Regular Baptist Church for many years, and Bill ordained an elder on May 19, 1962. He was the Moderator of the Myrtle Church of Melbourne, Florida at the time of his passing.  It is an accepted fact that Bill and Myrtle were an inspiration and a light to all of those many people with whom they came in contact. Both of them were devout in attendance at church both far and near as long as their health permitted. By all who knew these two outstanding Christians and their immediate family in particular they will be sadly missed. However our loss is Heaven's gain.

brother ans sister who died as infants. Johnny had been crippled for the past 11 years, but for
the past year Johnny had been in and out of the hospital. We did evwerything we could fom him,
We never left him by himself at anttime. We would like to say we believe with all our hearts little
Johnny has left this old world and now he's rejoicing and walking with Jesus. He won't have to
use a wheelchair up there. So, we would like to say to each one of our family, if we ever want
to see him again, we will have to fall out with sin and live for Jesus, because there is only one
way and that is the right way. So children, let us all start righttoday, so we can meet little Johnny

So, sleep on, Johnny, sleep on. I feel like it won,t be long until I will be with you in your new home.

No pain or death he will have anymore.
He's now rejoicing and walking with Jesus.

Johnson, Mary Lou : It is with much sadness and broken hearts that we will try to write an obituary
of Mary Lou Johnson. She was born on February 19, 1961 and departed from this life December 25, 1989 making her stay here on earth 28 years 10 months and 6 days. Mary Lou is the daughter of HarveyJohnson and Oma Thornsberry Johnson. She was sick most of her life, having been struck with a cripplingdisease. We never could find a cure for her, but in our hearts we feel Mary Lou has joined a band ofangels where she won't have to use a wheelchair anymore. We could never count the times we've had her in the hospital trying to find some way to ease her pain, but Sissie, your pains are over. We won't have to watch you suffer anymore. Sissie, you told us the night before you died you were going to havethe best Christmas you ever had in this world and we asked you why. You said you felt so happy, thatyou had a new body. Mary Lou we know now that you had the best Christmas because you joined the angel band. So we would like to say if we ever wont to see Mary Lou again we will have to fall out withsin and live for Jesus which we feel Sissie has done. Sissie we'll never forget those sweetest smiles you left before you closed your eyes in death. WeWill miss you dearly as the days go by. We love you with all our hearts.
Love, Mom and Dad and all your brothers and sisters

Mary Lou knew she had to leave, But we didn't let her go along.
A part of us went with her, the day God called her home.
All her grief and pain are over, She is now at rest with little Johnny.
Where they won't have to part anymore.
Where they'll be waiting for Daddy and Mommy
and where they'll never have to say any goodbyes.
Love always, Mom and Dad

Manns, Gladys Reed   Gladys Reed Manns was born June 20, 1909 in Floyd County, Ky.
She was the daughter of the late Douglas Reed and Jenny Gearheart Reed. O n September 2,
1926 she married Banner Manns and to that union was born one son: Curtis Manns who preceded
her in death. She also had three sisters: Sid Reed Hughes, Cora Reed, Mae Reed Reffett and one
brother Tobe Reed who also preceded her in death. Gladys leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Elder Banner Manns, and daughter-in-law Lee Ester Slone Manns, and four grandchildren and their spouses: Clovis and Cheryl Manns, Jerry and Lenice Manns, Roy and Sandy Manns, and Terry and Gladys Mae Manns Gibson and six great-grandchildren: Jim, Bryan, Ryan, Megan, Christy, and Lora Lee. Gladys joined the Old Regular Baptist Church approximately fifty-seven years ago and was baptized by Elder M.C. Wright and Elder Marion Chaffins. She lived a Christian life until her death and we believe she is resting in the Paradise of God. Mawmaw lived a humble life and she never lost sight of Heaven. She loved to sing the songs of Zion and even when she could no longer speak she would hum the old time songs.  Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need to spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchants ship; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also, while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good; her candle goeth not out by night. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.

In May of 1989 Ellen joined the Mt. Olive Regular Baptist Church of Pippa Passes, Ky.  We offer our many thanks to Elder Burton Ratliff and Hargis Tuttle for leading her into the water for baptism. Sister Ellen wanted to show the world that her life, cancerous as it was, was turned over to Jesus.

Shepherd, Farley
It is with a sad and broken heart that we try to write of our dear departed husband and father, Farley Shepherd. Dad was born March 3, 1918, in Magoffin County, the son of Dan and Alice Shepherd, and departed this life on November 22, 1988, at the Veterans Hospital in Lexington, Ky, after suffering for many months, making his stay here on earth 70 years 8 months and 19 days.       Dad was a hero not only to us, but to the United States Army. He was
inducted into the army at Arthurmable, Kentucky on July 21, 1942.He served as Squad Leader in Guadalcanal, Luzon, and the Northern Solomon's. From the men that knew him while he was there, I have heard a lot of heroic stories about him. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Star's, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with1 Bronze star and Good Conduct Ribbon. He was honorably discharged on November 1, 1945. After returning home he was united in marriage on April 2, 1949 to Haley Castle, the daughter of Carew and Nora Shepherd Castle. Unto this union four children were born, three sons: Earl Shepherd of Hueysville, Ky, Larry
Shepherd Gunlock, Ky, Jerry Shepherd Gunlock, Ky; one daughter Stella Joseph, Gunlock, Ky.
Other survivors include four grandchildren; Tonay Renee Shepherd Misty Elaine Shepherd, Tina Shepherd, and Tammy Shepherd; one grand-son, who was born only six days after the death of his grandfather, Farley Neal Shepherd; three sisters: Lola Shepherd of Gunlock, Ky, Frankie
Fugate of Maybe, Michigan, and Olivia Alton of Ypsilanti, Michigan. He was preceded in death not only by his parents, but by one Grand-son, Larry Brandon Shepherd, four brothers: Emit, James, Van, and Elmer Shepherd. Dad was a good husband and provider, working and
retiring from Kentucky and West Virginia Gas Company after 30 years of service, driving his old black truck that had the sign on the front that said it all, "Let me tell you about my grandchildren." He was always willing to help his family, neighbors, friends or anyone in need of his help. He received the Lord into his life during his long plight with cancer and joined the Little Martha Old Regular Baptist Church. Dad's funeral services were held at the Little Martha Old Regular
Baptist Church Friday, November 25, 1988. Burial followed at the Dan Shepherd Family Cemetery at Fredville, Kentucky. We his family and friends, are sad and broken-hearted over our loss. We will always cherish his kind and gentle nature and his memories will always live
in our hearts forever.
