NORTHERN NEW SALEM
OLD REGULAR BAPTIST
OBITUARIES
1973

Frazier, Mary Ellen-- Sister Mary Ellen Frazier was born in Wayne County W. Virginia and moved to Letcher County, Ky with her parents A.J. and Tennessee Napier in 1908. She still has a host of relatives living in W. Virginia. Sister Frazier was married to Silas Frazier in 1921 at Blackey, Ky by Finley Summer Unto this union were born six children but four died in infancy. Two survivors are Andrew who is married to the late Ivory Day's daughter May Day Frazier, and Virgil who is married to Barbara Sprow. Both sons live at Henderson, Oh. Andrew has one daughter Janice. Virgil has three daughters: Sandy, Lou Ann, and Shawn. Both Andrew and Virgil have nice homes. Andrew teachers and Virgil is a carpenter.  Bro. and Sister Frazier raised a daughter from infancy. She was loved as their own although they could not claim her altogether. Her name was Billie Joyce Frazier. She was married to James Arnold Schoonover and they had one daughter Mary Ann Schoonover. Sister Frazier who stayed with Billie Joyce during all her painful illness and seemed to suffer the pains with Billie Joyce, never got to see this granddaughter after Billie Joyce's death for some reason, although she died still in hopes she would see her! The mother and
daughter were very close and in the few months before Billie Joyce's illness they worked together in a nursing home for elderly people. Sister Frazier continued her work after Billie Joyce's death, Sister Frazier said she pointed them to God as their help in their need.   Bro. Frazier kept Sister Frazier at home when she herself became in need of nursing care. He lovingly took care of her needs so she could spend her
last years in the place she loved. When she had to be taken to the hospital after breaking her hip, he stayed with her as much as possible. The last day he was with her she said Papa and Mama have been to see me. Bro. Frazier asked her what they looked like. She said they looked as they always did. She also said to him I am going home and I want be back! Bro. Frazier said have they hurt your feelings here? She answered No. I want to stay here as long as I have to stay, Bro Frazier thought this strange. She passed on soon after this.  The Pilgrim Home Church at Milan, Ind, has enjoyed the fellowship of Bro. and Sister Frazier for all these years. Bro. Frazier went into Big Creek Church in Letcher County, Ky, in 1930 and Sister Frazier came in shortly after. May5, 1951 they brought their letters to the Pilgrim Home Church in Milan. Sister Frazier loved her fellowship with us in this humble church and said it was the one place she felt at home and felt we had better meetings. And I can say that she was a quite and lovely Sister in the faith. And it was her great longing that her children find the way that she had found. One time we were visiting the Little Memory Church the door opened and in stepped Andrew and May. We had never seen her shout before. But she was so happy she clapped her hands and rejoiced. Meet me in Heaven Andrew and Virgil and we can rejoice again.  I know of no enemies that Sister Frazier had. People that knew her loved her. And she seemed to radiate her love for her friends in the church. Sister Frazier's body rests in the Pilgrim's Home Church's Cemetery in Ripley Co. Ind, just north of Milan on road 101. We see her lonesome gravy every time we go to our church house. Her meek and quite spirit is the beautiful though each of us must cherish as we look upon her grave. She never gave any of us a reason to see her differently. And now we miss you, dear Sister. We will look forward to seeing you again in that beautiful land we are in the race to win. The land of the soul! You have now won, we do trust, but we are yet to attain. Lord help us all to meet in Heaven! If we miss Heaven it had been better that we had never been born. We trust her boys will forsake this world and get in the race for Heaven. It will be worth all the sacrifice when that great day comes that we must face that great judge.

Green, James "Jim" - By the help of the Almighty God and a great sense of personal loss, I will write an obituary of a devoted husband and father, Bro. James "Jim" Green. Bro. Jim was born Oct 30, 1919 unto the late Bruce and Rachel Green and departed this life Jan 25, 1973 as a result of a mining accident, being 53 years old at the time of death. In early life he was wed to Lillie Conley and unto this union were born four children. Two children died in infancy. He leaves to mourn their loss, his beloved wife Lillie, two devoted children Billie of Garrett, Ky and Virginia Mae Mullins of Mousie, Ky, three sisters; Ellen Eicker, Maggie Moore and Loulza Green, seven grandchildren and a host of kindred and friends.   Bro. Jim was baptized into fellowship with the Ball Branch Old Regular Baptist Church on Oct 24, 1971 by Elder Burton Howard and Frank Slone. Bro. Jim remained a true and faithful member of the church until his death. He was always ready and willing to work for the up build of the church he loved so well. Our church has lost a beloved brother and he will truly be missed. I feel that each and every person who came to know him has his own special memories. I'll never forget the loving smile the warm handshake and the friendly hug that he always had for me.   He dearly loved his brethren and sisters which was made manifest in his daily life. I could say many wonderful things about Bro. Jim but I would love to say to his family and friends that have not made peace with God, Bro. Jim lived the life before you and if you will put your trust in God as he did, it will lead you to that fountain of living water. I believe with all my heart that our loss is heaven's gain.

Hall, Elijah--Elijah Hall, known to us Tena, in the year of 1902 brightened the home of Andy and Susie Isaac Hall. In early 1919, in the prime of his life, he met and married a young woman by the name of Lona Caudill. She helped bear many hardships and they spent many wonderful days together here on this earth. To this union were born twelve children: Ocie, Socie, Jonah, Lawrence, Lucy, Daisy, Norma, Joanna, Nadene. Clarence, Russell and Freddie. On Wednesday night between eight and nine o'clock as the children lay Brother Tena on the bed, he took his good companion by the hand, telling the children how much he loved them all and how he loved Sister Lona. He asked her to lay down beside him,. then lying there with her heart so near breaking, his heart so near at rest; he laid his hands in his breast he breathed out his life sweetly there.  Brother Tena leaves 3 brothers Ruben, Merlin, and Dow. also 28 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren. along with a host of relatives and many good friends are left to mourn their great loss of a dear brother.     Bro. Tena joined the church Sunday Oct 4 in 1962, his companion having joined long before in 1947. Bro. Tena was afflicted with cancer. After an operation awhile ago, it seemed he was making a fair recovery, but with all the doctor's care and family concern Bro. Tena met with God on that appointment that the Bible speaks of. It's once appointed unto man to die,, We feel that on Wednesday night a host of angels left Heaven with an honorable discharge and swiftly carried his soul home to meet the great God whom Bro. Tena told us so many times was his hearts desire. It is truly wonderful to hear the neighbors boys praise him for the life he lived in front of them, but the Bible says to let his own work praise him in the gates.
