Adair, Johnny, Sr.- By the grace of God through my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I will write this obituary of my Dad, Johnny Adair, Senior. My heart is so sad but my Spirit rejoices. Dad was born April 26, 1926, in Delbarton, WV and was a faithful member of Southern Home Church of Sardis Association. He left this ole troublesome world on the wings of a Dove, December 30, 1993, which made Dad's stay here on earth 68 years. I can almost hear him shouting Praises to God and singing the old songs of Zion, that he loved so dearly, like Prince of Peace. He was the son of the late James Adair and Rebecca Evans Adair Grubb. He left behind 5 children, 16 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren,3 brothers and I sister. Dad's life in this world wasn't one that you would  call glamorous. We watched him make it through many trials as he lived  before us. The words that he would always speak here were, "Always pray and trust in the Lord." 'Thanks be to God for his mercy. Dad has left behind an example of Faith and Courage, that no matter what. go to God and he will carry you through. Dad said himself to his children, "If you ever want to see me again you've got to get on that narrow highway."  To those that I love, that are still lost, I leave you this Fathers gone to glory don't you want to go too?
Written with loving memories by, Brother Johnny Adair, Jr. and Elder Gary Adair

He said church was the only place he could get a little peace from all his pain. Brother Robert said the only reason he didn't want to leave this world was he didn't want to leave his family. To his children, family and friends, if you want to meet Brother Robert you must follow Jesus to make it to Heaven. Where all \tri 11 be happiness and peace forever. Although we miss him so much We know he's only Gone Away With A Friend. And our loss is heaven's gain. Sleep on Brother Robert, we will see you soon.

Blackburn, Octavia Taylor-It is with much sadness I will, by the help of the Dear Lord, try to write the obituary of our dearly beloved Mother, Grandmother and Mother-in-Law, Octavia Taylor Blackburn.  She was born December 8,1897 and deceased January 24, 1967 at the age of 69 years. Born in Pike County, she was the daughter of the late Wallace Taylor and the late Angeline Lowe Scott Taylor. She professed a hope in Christ and was baptized into the fellowship of the United Baptist Church many years ago by Elder Eli Ward but had attended church many many years at the Old Regular Baptist at the time of her death. She was married December 27, 1913 to Floyd Blackburn who preceded her in death May 12. 1950. Survivors are 4 sons: Lester, Elster, Keither and James Wallace; one daughter: Brook Blackburn Taylor. Since her death, Lester died April 30, 1975 and Elster died August 25, 1993. She was one of 16 children of whom 8 preceded her in death but all are deceased now. At the time of her death she left 26 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and a host of relatives, friends and neighbors to mourn her passing. Our hope is by the Grace of God we can all meet her where parting is no more. She was sadly missed by all who knew her but to all the children, grandchildren; repent of your sins and turn to Christ while you have life and opportunity. Written by Her Daughter-in-Law In hope of eternal life, Lucina Blackburn

Brown, Elder Claude-By the help of the good Lord, I will try on this Father's Day to write the obituary of my precious daddy, Elder Claude Brown. Daddy was born April 5, 1923 in Canada, Ky. to the late Alfred and Gladys Blackburn Brown.  He was preceded in death by two sisters, Eloise Cochran and Daphene Asmus; one brother, Cody Brown; and his first wife, Millie Scott Brown. Daddy is survived by his wife, Inis Crigger Thornsbury Brown; three sons, Roger (Linda)  Thornsbury  of Paintsville,  Ky, Keith (Tammy) Thornsbury of Paintsville, KY, and Elder Donnie (Marsha) Brown  of Pt.. Pleasant, WV; two daughters, Melinda (Steve) Benefield of Talihina, OK and Janie Stokes of Sidney, KY; one brother, Charles  (Joann) Brown of Brooklyn, MI: and nine grandchildren, that he cherished, as well as, many friends, neighbors, relatives, and brothers and sisters  of the church and the Dix Fork Church where his home was. Daddy offered his hand to the Narrows Branch Church 47 years ago, after a long suffering travel and new birth in Christ Jesus, telling and showing what great things the Lord Jesus had done for him. A short time later he learned he couldn't run away from a job the Lord had for him to do. He was examined and ordained an Elder of the Narrows Branch Church to preach Jesus to a lost and dying world. He served the Lord and the churches from that time, for 45 years, whenever and wherever it fell his lot. God gave Dada gift of much knowledge and understanding of the scriptures, which he shared with the younger brothers, being a Father in the Gospel to many of us. Dad's life says more than I could ever Write, being a light for all who really knew him.  If they will follow the stones and markers that he has laid up along the way, I believe it will lead them in the path Jesus laid out for us all. On December 22, 1993, after a long suffering journey, his labors ended, the Lord let him lay his armor by and led him across Jordan's River to enter that rest that he had promised his children, making his stay here upon this earth, 70 years, 8 months. The scripture says, "Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; yea, saith the spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them." Dad's works will remain with me as long as I live, but I want to say unto all that read this, that your works will also follow you whether they be good or bad. If you want to meet the Lord in peace when this appointment with death comes to you, turn to the Lord, repent of your sins, and be born again. I will end by saying, sleep on my precious Daddy, farewell until the morning of eternity, where our hope is, when we shall awaken, not with crippled hands and legs, but with his likeness to walk that street of gold and give God perfect praise forever and ever. Written by his son and brother in the Lord, Elder Donnie Brown

Brown, Ethel-At the request of Brother Stuart, I will attempt to write the obituary of his dear companion, Ethel Brown. Sister Ethel was born April 11,1916 and deceased this life November 25, 1993. Her parents J. C. Maynard and Lizzie Brown Maynard preceded her in death. She was married to Brother Stuart January 30, 1933 and to this union was born two children, a baby son and one daughter, Polly Elizabeth, who preceded her in death.  She and Brother Stuart adopted their two grandchildren, James S. and Eva Marie of Belfry, KY. She has one living sister, Virginia Fitzpatrick of Beckley, WV. One sister and four brothers preceded her in death. She joined the church in April 1954 and she and Brother Stuart were baptized the same day by Elders Ernest Cochran and Charlie Johnson and placed their memberships with the Dix Fork Church Sister Ethel was such a precious sister. I will always remember her humble spirit and how she lived her life. Being a deacon's wife e, she took her duties very serious and always had a Godly appearance. She conducted herself in a way that brought no reproach upon herself or the church. She was a wonderful wife and mother and an example of what a Christian woman should be. She faced a terrible tragedy, when she seen her own daughter killed, but being a virtuous woman, she trusted in the Lord to help her and Brother Stuart and they adopted their two grandchildren and raised them to fear and admonish the Lord. The Dix Fork Church misses her but she was one of the many roses in God's flower garden and now she will bloom in Heaven. We have lost several members this year and not one of them is more precious than the other in God's eyes.  To the members of the Dix Fork Church, I would like to say, "I hope we can earnestly pray for God to help us persuade sinners to be born again and draw them by our love and kindness as I feel Sister Ethel did." It didn't matter to her that you were a sinner, she still went out of her way  to show her love for them because she knew we were all once lost and wretched but through Jesus Christ, we obtained mercy and mercy pleaded our case. I thank the Lord for sisters like her who helped pave the way for us younger ones to follow. I feel I'll shout and sing with her again on Heaven's bright shore where there will be no cancer or sickness but perfect peace at last. Heaven is worth striving for and is the answer to all our problems and someday, I am going there.  So sleep on Sister Ethel, we'll see you again in the sweet bye and bye. Written By her sister in Christ, Sister Geraldine Crigger

Chapman Ollie Marie (Maynard)
-It is with much sadness that I will try to write the obituary of a good dear friend and Sister in Christ. Ollie Marie (Maynard) Chapman known to a lot of her family and friends as (Beckie). Most of her family and close friends never called her anything but (Mother). To me the name (Mother) was best suited for this Dear Sister, whom we dearly loved. Sister Ollie was born June 22, 1919 in Pike County, KY making her stay with us 75 years, one month and nine days. She entered her eternal rest August 1, 1994 at her home on Rockhouse at Sidney, KY. Ollie was the daughter of the late Johnny and Laura (Sesco) Maynard.  Ollie was united in marriage in 1934 to William Charlie Chapman and to this union 15 children were born. Six sons: James, Doug, Gary and Jackie Chapman all of Kimper, KY; nine daughters: Betty May at home at Sidney, KY; Janice Collins, Brenda McGuire, Linda Johnson and Barbara Fields all of Pikeville KY; Emma J.. Smith of Little Rock, AR; Dixie Simon of St. Petersburg, FL; Mary Wolfe of Castalia, OH-and Ruth McDaniel of North Carolina. Ollie is survived by all these children, twenty six grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren, one brother, John D. Maynard of Sidney, KY and one sister, Mary Anni Brown of Williamson. WV. Ollie was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Randall Lee Collins an David Paul Chapman. She was also preceded in death by four brothers: Ralph, Charles, Gordon and Emzii Maynard and also one sister, Doric Maynard Staton. Ollie joined the Old Regular Baptist and was baptized by the late Jonah Ester Williamson arounc1965. She was a faithful member and will dearly be missed by everyone at the Pilgrim Home Church at Varney, KY. Ollie was ready to go home but hated to leave a dear son, W. C., who is confined to a wheelchair.  One daughter, Betty, who has always been there for mother, God will reward you.  All of you children were good to Mother, your love for her surely showed.  Ollie worked hard all her life to raise hei15 children. She will need no marker to mark where she lays. She has left her mark on all of us. She is with the Angels that she saw as she was leaving, this world. Her prayers have been answered. We sure will miss you but will meet you some sweet day.

Cline, Verda-With a sad and happy heart I will write the obituary of my mother, Verda Cline. I am sad because we will miss her and happy because we know she is in heaven. Mother passed away on March 15, 1994. She was born August 11, 1911 at North Springs, WV. She was preceded in death by her parents Garfield and Lula Cline Davis; her husband, Emmett C line; two sons. Jimmy and Kelly Cline, two brothers, Dorsey and Luther Davis and five sisters, Vida Tittle. Ida Webb, Mertie Lambert, Marie Whitt and Lettie Davis.  Survivors: Daughters, Rosie Keyes, Louredith Jones, Iness Testerman, Yvonne Cline, Dorothy Cline, Sharon Cline and Gail Cline; sons, Clarence, Dickie and Ronald Cline; brothers, James "Bunchie" Davis and Monroe Davis; sisters, Dorothy Carter and  Laura Davis;  14  grandchildren and  9 great-grandchildren. Mother became a member of the Rosa Baptist Church in July 1946. She was a faithful member as long as her health permitted her to be there. A few years ago mother had a dream: She dreamed she was walking up a hill. She thought she would never get to the top. When she finally got to the top of the hill, she saw many trees; one was different, it had something like water flowing from it. She touched the tree and a voice told her she had touched the Holy Spirit.  She had a feeling like nothing before: she remembered shouting, she was so happy. When it was time to go down the hill, instead of walking, she floated down. Since I was a child mother always sang religious songs, until two years ago, After having the third stroke she quit singing. About two weeks before her death she started singing the old songs again. I believe that Mother knew there was going to be a change. I never heard Mother complain about her sickness or life in general. In closing, I believe that one of Mother's favorite verses from the Bible is appropriate. The verse is from Timothy II, Chapter 4,Verse7.  The verse was spoken by Paul before his death.  It states:  "I have fought a good Fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." Mother is sadly missed by our family. Written by Her Daughters, Gail and Dorothy Cline

Mother was a very special and humble person who endured a lot of suffering in this life, even as ayoung girl, hut she always had strong faith in God. She would tell us how she laid with rheumatic feverfor a year when she was eleven years old and how Elder Grover Carey would walk through the hills to layhands on her and pray for her. She called this faith doctoring, and when I was little she would have me prayed for in the same way.  Mother would tell us about how she got in trouble over her sins and how she repented and was baptized January 1, 1954. She said they had to cut the ice to baptize her. She took her membership with the Rebecca Church at Trace Creek, WV. I can remember when I was a child, Mother would get so happy in Church. She would cry and shout praises unto the Lord. Mother loved to sing the old Baptist songs to us as we were growing up. Mother loved the old Church and the Brothers and Sisters and she kept the faith. Shortly before she died we had Church for her and she really enjoyed it. She said it was better than medicine! She really suffered at the end. She could only have one Tylenol a day for pain, but it seemed her spirit got brighter. I'm thankful I repented of my sins and was able to walk with Mother, for I have precious memories of worshipping with her and it was wonderful to be able to wash feet at Communion time.  Daddy would like to tell the family to remember the life Mother lived and get on the right path if you want to meet Mother again. Our dear mother will be missed by many other brothers and sisters in Christ and friends. We feel that Sister Edna is resting from her labors in the Arms of Jesus, waiting for that glorious resurrection morning when Jesus comes on the cloud of glory to take his children home, to live around the eternal throne of God forever and ever. Sister Edna is gone from our midst but her memory lives in the hearts of her children, family and friends forever. We feel our mother preached her own funeral by the life that she lived before her children and friends. So sleep on, sleep on Mommy till that glorious day when the God in Heaven declares that time shall be no more and gathers His elect from the four corners of the earth, to meet him upon that cloud of glory, to go home and be with Jesus to live forever. To the family and friends that are still out in the field of sin, if you want to meet Mom again, take heed to that light that shines in a dark place, till the day dawns, and the day star arises in your hearts, for Jesus made it plain to Nicodemus, except you be born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of Heaven. Loving Jesus keep mommy and daddy in your care until we meet again. Life is made easier knowing that you both are in the arms of our loving Savior. We want to leave this poem with everyone: Have you ever lost a loved one, Who was so very dear to you; One you loved so very much and, Miss her like we do; Have you ever had a heartache or, Ever felt the pain, or shed those many; Tears that fall like drops of rain; lf you've never had this feeling, Then I pray you never do; For when God takes your Mother, He takes a part of you; It's a lonesome house without you, And sad has been our way, for life and Home are not the same, since you were Called away. Written by her children who dearly loved her

May, Charlie - With the help of the Lord I will attempt to write the obituary of our beloved Brother in Christ, Brother Charlie May.  Brother Charlie was born February 12, 1911, in Pike County, Kentucky, he was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas May and Mariah Blackburn May; two brothers; two sisters and a grandchild. He was a retired coal miner and World War II Army Air Force veteran. He also was a member of UMWA local 5737. Brother Charlie leaves to mourn his loss a loving and devoted wife, Sister Etta Smith May. Also surviving him is one son, the Rev. Charles Gary May of Stone) Kentucky and one daughter, Janet Baldwin of Huntington, WV, one brother, Sid May of Hardy, Kentucky and six grandchildren. Brother Charlie gave his hand to Elder Bobby Scott to be baptized on April 8, 1994 and was baptized at his home due to his health by the hands of Elders Bobby Scott and Elbert Sesco. After being baptized Brother Charlie placed his membership at the Old Regular Baptist Church called Narrows Branch. He passed from this life exactly three weeks to the day from the time he was baptized. Brother Charlie attended Church for many years and always seemed to be a member even before he joined the Church. All the years working in the mines for a living and the weight of this life had left Brother Charlie with a feeble body the last few years. But God has promised that he will deliver the creature also from the bondage of corruption unto the glorious liberties of the children of God. One day by the sweet Spirit of our Lord we shall all be raised from the earth to meet Jesus in the air to live forever in a body which shall never suffer or die and neither will there be any tears in Heaven. To Sister Etta and the children, I believe that Brother Charlie is happy today and at rest with the Lord waiting for the redemption to wit: of his body. May God continue to be with you and watch over you until we shall hear the voice of God. Written with love: Elder Bobby Scott

Maynard, Elder Andrew-With the help of the Lord and sad hearts we will try to write the obituary of our beloved husband, brother and friend, who passed away June 17, 1994. He is survived by his wife of fifty one years, Pauline (Oilman) Maynard; one brother, Hansel Maynard; three sisters, Vicie Francis, Virginia Milkovich and Nancy Stepp; and several nieces and nephews.  He was a member of the Turkey Creek Regular Baptist Church and was moderator there when he passed away. He loved the Church and his brothers and sisters and was so proud of them. Andrew joined the Regular Baptist Church at Elk Creek and was baptized by Elder Grover Carey, the third Sunday in May, 1957. He was ordained a minister in October, 1962.  He remained a faithful member and firm in his belief and trust in the Lord. He was a good teacher and leader. He was dearly loved and will be missed by his wife, his brothers and sisters of the Church, and his many friends, some of whom he was like a father. To all who knew and loved him he will never be forgotten and he will be forever missed, but he is resting in the Paradise of God, waiting for that great day when ail of God's children will be reunited. So it behooves us to live a life that is pleasing to God so that we may see him again.

Maynard, Victoria -It is with much sadness and sorrow that I attempt to write the  obituary of my dear mother, Victoria Maynard. Mama is no longer with me now. I miss her so much. My home is not the same since she's gone. She was the best friend I had in this world. The Lord called Mama home on January 17, 1994 making her stay here on earth 92 years, 4 months and5 days. Born Sept. 12, 1901 in Pike County, KY. She was a daughter of the late Tries McCoy and Kentucky Morrison McCoy. She is survived by one son R. C, Maynard of Johns Creek; and one daughter Lyda Mac Lowe of Turkey Creek; one brother El can a Me Coy of Matewan, WV; three step sons R.. D. Maynard of Hatfield, KY, Shorty T. Maynard of Burnwell, KY, and Irvin Maynard of Chillicothe, OH, one step daughter Eunice McCoy of Meta, KY. Mama was laid to rest in the Blackburn Cemetery at McCombs, KY. She was preceded in death by her first husband Steward Maynard, and her daughters, Gladys Cole and Maxie Maynard, one son Billy Gene Maynard and three step sons, Thurman, Adis, and Curtis Maynard. Mama joined the Old Regular Baptist Church Sept. 17, 1933. She had her membership at the Big Branch Church at lower Brushy Creek; Mama worked hard helping to raise a big family and she took care of my step Daddy. For almost twelve years, her life was not a Bed of Roses, but she was happy. She had the Lord with her. She loved to laugh and joke with her close friends. Mama lived alone for twenty-five years. She never seemed to be afraid. She loved to go to church, but after Daddy passed away, she didn't get to go like she wanted to. She enjoyed fixing dinner on church time, or when the family could be there. Mama was a neat person, a good homemaker, and a good mother to us all. You are sadly missed Mama, but I feel that you are with Jesus now, where there will be no more strokes, troubles and heartaches. About five minutes before Mama passed away she opened her eyes and looked at me. I feel that she wanted to tell me she was going home, but she was to weak. I believe Mama fell asleep in the arms of Jesus, she went so easy.  I promised Mama I would see her again.  My life is so empty without her. I go back to the old home place where we all grew up. It brings back so many memories . All I can say is thank you Lord. I feel their presence its so real. Mama's home now. She's gone away with a friend where she will never cry no more. The Lord had a better home awaiting. Sleep on peaceful Morn. I believe some sweet day we'll meet again, where we'll never part no more in that beautiful country called heaven, where we'll be together for ever and ever and walk the streets of Glory land and hand. Thank you Lord for my mother. I miss her so much. Rest on Mama. If God's will I will meet you on Heaven's bright shore. Where there will be no more dying. All will be Peace and Love.

Brother Dan Mounts came to the Southern Home Church in Sparr, FL on the first Saturday in June,  1987 by letter from the Narrows Branch Church in Hardy, KY. He was a faithful member and a great example to all of the members of the Southern Home Church. We could always expect to see Brother Dan and his daughter, Sister Ermal, walk through the church doors on Sunday. He would always take his same seat on the stand where he could hear the preaching of our beloved brothers. Although Brother Dan had lived many years in this life he attended church until his last days. He always enjoyed the church meetings and requested church to be held at his home when he was not able to go.  Words could not express the love we all have for Brother Dan Mounts and the joy we felt seeing him each week. Brother Dan is in a better home where the sicknesses and worries of this world are far behind him. So we hope all the family and children will get in touch with the same Jesus that Brother Dan Mounts did and meet him over in Heaven some beautiful day

Robinette, Landon - Landon was born Januarys 30, 1923 at Vamey, Kentucky and passed from this life on October I 1, 1993 at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital of  Pikeville, KY. He was the son of the late Lilburn and Fannie Stanley  Robinette of Vamey, KY. Landon grew up at Vamey, on Brushy Creek, and in February of 1943 he entered the U.S. Army in defense of his country. During World War II, with the Forty Ninth Engineer Combat Battalion, he was in; the Normandy Invasion, Northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, the Meritorious Unit Award, and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, w4th 4 Bronze Service      Stars. He was Honorably discharged on December 1, 1945. After being honorably discharged from the military, Landon married Lois Alien on June 1, 1946. They made their home at Vamey, KY until now. To this union was born one daughter, Janet Sue Robinette and one son, Eddie Dale Robinette. He was employed by the Norfolk and Western Railroad for several years. He was loved and respected by those he worked with. The war had taken it's toll on his body and because of continued lung problems he became disabled. Landon was baptized on October 19,1985 and became a member of the Pilgrim Home Regular Baptist Church. He was an active member of the church and at the time of his death, he was on a committee to work with the Sardis Association toward making the Pilgrim Home Church a permanent site for the association to meet. He is survived by his wife, Lois of Vamey, KY, his daughter Janet Sue Williamson also of Varney, Ky. Ledna Young of Pontiac, MI, Ernestine England of Pontiac, MI, and Minnie Oettel of Harietta, MI. He leaves behind one brother Clinton Robinette of Pikeville, KY. Surviving grandchildren are: Angela Williamson Scroggins and Natalie Williamson Belcher. He leaves behind two great grandchildren, Marcus Blake Scroggins and Kyle Landon Belcher, and one step-granddaughter, Deonna Bartley. Landon was preceded in death by one sister, Edna Young and three brothers, Edward, Clayton, and Bennett. All who knew Landon knew he was as good as a human being could be within themselves. He was an uncle to all the youth of Brushy. On warm summer days his yard was the ball Field to sit and listen to one of his tales. On cold winter nights his kitchen became a game center where they could bicker over who owned "Boardwalk" or who would have black or red in a game of checkers. To his son-in-law he was a dear friend of 27 years and a father who never knew "no". He was one who managed to exclude the negative and always use the positive, a dear brother in Christ and an example of the Kingdom of Heaven. To his only son and daughter he was a father sent by God. To his wife he was a gift of God with whom she could live her life with here.  To his brother and sisters left behind he was big brother whom they looked to when darkness seemed to surround them. A brother who always loved them dearly and lived a gentle life before them. One who knew the darkness would soon surround all. Thus he was a light to his loved ones but in 1985 he took a greater light in hand, he lifted it up, he carried it high so that all could see it while he lived here. He has the victory, he has prevailed. He said to his wife, Lois, a few moments before he left, "don't weep for me" and said to his Lord, "take me home away from the suffering of the dark shadow's of death". Now he has set his light high, as a guiding light for all that remain here in the dark valley of the shadow of death. Yes, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him; by his family, the Pilgrim Home Church, and all his friends and neighbors on Brushy Creek.  Truly our loss is Heaven's gain.

Runyon, Nancy Ann- Ecclesiastes: Chapter 3: Verse 1: To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the Heaven. It is with much sadness and a heavy heart, that I write my beloved Mother's obituary, Nancy Ann Sheppard Runyon. Mother was born June 20, 1929, at Simmons Fork, Trace Creek, WV. She was the daughter of the late Dock and Susan (Oilman) Sheppard. She was a homemaker and a member of Rebecca Old Regular Baptist Church, for as long as I can remember. Mother married my daddy) Nicholas Runyon, Jr., on April II,1950.  To this union was born 4 children, Larry Dean and Darrel Eugene both of Delbarton, WV; Doris Hall of Pecks Mill, WV and Donna Branham of Lenore, WV. Mother was also blessed with 12arandchildren and 2 Great-grandchildren and a large family of cousins, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by 2 brothers, Johnny Sheppard of Okeechobee, Fla. and Allen Sheppard of' Dingess, WV ;and 2 sisters: Ada Richards of Godby Heights WV and Arminda Sheppard Collins of Delbarton WV. To my daddy and to my brothers and sister: mother is gone but we know not forgotten. For now, the circle is broken, but one day will 1 gather whole again. I would like to end with Psalm 23 that I recited many time while sitting at my mother's bed. "The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointist my head with oil: my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever." We truly believe mother is dwelling at the house of the Lord forever. Written by her daughter, Donna Branham

Smith, Brookie Scott -Mommaw's gone now. The flickering lamp of life went out June8, 1994, closing the Final chapter in her earthly story.  The 86 years, 10days she lived on earth begin when she was born at Piso, KY May 29,1908, to the late Jarrett Smith and Jane (Williamson) Smith. She grew up in that vicinity until she met and married C. B. (Charlie) Scott, September10, 1931 when she moved to the Hardy area.  They enjoyed nearly 52years of co companionship on pin marriage until his death in March 1983. This union was blessed with five children who survive; three girls: Polly J. Hay of Hazel Green, AL; Lois J. Owens of McDonough, GA and Joyce A. Seale of Fairdale, GA; and two boys: J. C. Scott of McDonough, GA. and Charles E. Scott of Griffon, GA. She is also survived by one brother: Earl Smith of Chattaroy, WV and three sisters: Mrs. Hester Maynard of Varney, KY: Mrs. Lola Roberts of Robinson Creek Ky and Mrs. Lakie Maynard ofCitra, FL: twelve grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces and a host of friends and acquaintances that came to know and love her over the years. Mom maw belonged to the Narrows Branch Old Regular Baptist Church for over 50 years having joined the fourth Sunday in April, 1944, was baptized by Elders Ester Hopkins and Lewis Smith, and she was a faithful member as long as she was able to attend. After she became unable to take care of herself and came to Alabama to live with her daughter, she would still have us call back to Kentucky every fourth weekend on Sunday evening to inquire what kind of meeting the Narrows Branch Church had. When I would travel on weekends to called meetings and return home late Sunday evening she would still be up and would want to know what kind of meeting we had and who was there. She truly lived the life of a Christian as set forth by the examples given in the scriptures and always tried to do the right things as best as she understood. For her to live was Christ; to die was gain (even though after nature it is very hard to understand because it is a loss to us. Mommaw wouldn't want me to brag on her. I'll just report what I witnessed during her last days. She was very afflicted in body for the most part of the last year but she bore her afflictions with much patience and humble prayer to be delivered according to the will of the Lord. She trusted in the Lord to deliver her from all manner of trials and tribulations; from the forgiveness of her sins (death of her soul through the death of her body and fully believed that he will yet deliver her by changing her vile body and fashion it like unto his most glorious body in the resurrection. Even though afflictions had caused desire to leave her, she would still from time to time declare her love and concern for her children and grandchildren and bade them all bye. Her sorrows and joys are now over, her sufferings have ceased. A week ago she was waiting to cross "one more river", now she is waiting for the resurrection of her body. We all will miss her, believe we will meet again in a better country, but for now it is farewell for a while.  Written by her unworthy servant and Brother in Christ; Edwin Hay

He is also survived by one brother, Dona Smith of Hardy, KY., and a sister Mrs. Charlie (Eta) May of Hardy, KY, several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law) nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. George attended church faithfully in the last few years of his life until his sickness over took him He desired to become a member of the Dix Fork Regular Baptist Church about one week before his death Although George never lived to return home from the hospital to be baptized, he told Brother Ernest Cochran at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital that he felt that the Lord had forgiven him of his sins and that he wanted a home with the Old Dix Fork Church. He mentioned several times in the last week of his life that he wanted to go home to be baptized. Although George came into the church at the eleventh hour, we feel] that his reward in Heaven will be as much as those who came in at the first hour, and that he will reap life eternal with Jesus Christ. George just missed out on the joy and fellowship within the Church during his days here on Earth. George was always a good worker and provided well for his family. He will always be remembered by family and friends as a devoted father) grandfather, husband, and a good neighbor. In his early years George worked as a logger, truck driver, and railroader. In his later years, he worked in the coal mines and retired after approximately 34 years at Eastern Coal Corp. at Stone, Ky. He was a member of Local 5737 and the United Mine workers of America. So, George, sleep on peacefully and rest from your labors until Jesus comes on the clouds of glory to claim his. own. Then you can wake in his likeness and be satisfied. For in the Heavenly home there will be no more sorrows, tears, or pain, but all will be peace and joy forever more. Written by the family

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Clifford, Perry and Okey. Sister Bessie Mae and I were very close. We had many private talks about our love and concern for the church. She wore the mark of a Christian and dressed in modest apparel as a woman professing Godliness and she wore it with honor giving God the Glory. She had a wonderful voice and could sing so beautiful. Many times she would even help the brothers start the songs. Her voice has rang out in the Church many times but it is silent today. But in Heaven, it will ring again. We gathered around her bedside the Sunday before she died and Brother Berlin Thornsbury sang "He's my all and all", which was one of her favorite songs. Her voice was weak as she gasp for breath, she sang ever word with tears streaming down her face. She looked up at me and said "the Church is my life and I don't want to leave my family but God knows the best". She told me to take care of myself because the Dix Fork Church needs you. She said it looks like I'm going to have to go First and leave Dad behind. She didn't want him to know how sick she was and was hoping he would never know the pain of losing her, but God had other plans for Sister Bessie Mac. She worried so much about Jenny and tried to hang on for her sake, but to you Jenny I want to say, "don't be afraid because Mommy asked God to send a Guardian Angel to watch over you. And to Rod, You've always been an obedient son and she loved you so much and was proud of you". Jenny stayed with her until she took her last breath. He held her in his arms and told her how much he loved her. He said, "We started together and I wanted it lo be just me and her who ended it together". She loved all of her family and was a mother to all of them especially Ricky Dale. They could always count on her every time there was a problem. We are all going to miss her and there's an emptiness here that only she could fill. I've heard her call my name many times and seen her in dreams since she has been gone and my spirit groans within me and envies her because she has met death with courage and we still have ours to face. A friend of ours dreamed of her and she was looking through a window at everyone, waving and smiling at us and said "I am Heaven bound". That is so true and Heaven is rejoicing today because Paradise has a new Angel. Farewell Sister Bessie Mae. I Wrote this just for you with all the love in my heart and be watching for me because I'll see you again. Written by her friend and Sister in Christ: Sister Gerald inc Crigger

He had been a member of the Dix Fork Old Regular Church for 42 years, and remained a true and faithful member. Brother Albert loved little children and in a sense they became his own, he had so much patience with them, so I would like to say to this great family, which I have been a part of for 48 years, remember what the scripture says, sorrow not as others who have no hope, also remember it's just a sweet beginning for brother Albert. I believe he would say weep not for me, but weep for yourselves and your children. We believe as the writer of old said, A prince, a great man has fallen today in Israel, so to the ones who has not made peace with God, today is the day of salvation, if you hear His voice harden not your hearts. Growing up, . our home was always a gathering place for our many friends and family. They were shown the best of hospitality, day or night, so they visited often and stayed long. After we grew up we always gathered at our parents home, bringing our own children and we were treated with the same hospitality. We could always come home with the assurance that our Dad and Morn would be waiting with open arms and hearts. Sometimes it seemed like they would always be there. Dad died June 16, 1994. We still have our Morn and our family home but a vital part of it is now missing. Dad will always be loved and missed by his family and friends. Stewart, Clyde D. -It is with much sadness that I will try to write the obituary of a good friend and neighbor, Clyde Stewart.  He was the son of the late Cecil and Nora (Williamson) Stewart, and was raised by the late Jim and Mary Pinson. Clyde was born on November 3, 1910 making his stay here 82 years, 9 months and 28 days.  Clyde passed away at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital, Oct.1,1993 after a long illness. He was united in marriage to Lola Mae (Canada) Stewart in 1942. To this union 6 children were born. One daughter: Janice F. Stewart of Varney, KY. Four sons: Clyde Stewart of Yuba City. CA: Ben F. Stewart of Marine City. MI: Danny G. (Bimbo) Stewart of Schenectady, NY and Lester Stewart of Varney, KY. Also, Clyde had one grandson Joey Stewart that has been with him since birth and raised him as a son. Clyde also has fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Clyde's wife, Lola, had one infant son. Bobby Ray. who preceded him in death. Clyde worked 53 years driving a log truck for John Chaffing and others working with timber.  Clyde confessed a hope in Christ a few months back to Bro. Billy Williamson, Bro. Danny Runyon and Bro. Dale Williamson. He felt that the Lord had forgiven him of his sins. Clyde had several strokes about 7 years ago and 3 years ago he told us he had cancer. This last year he had been seriously ill. To the children that he lived with here on God's foot stool, Janice, Lester, and grandson, little Joey, I hope and pray to God that the Lord will give my children the mind to take care of me, if need be, like you did for dad. Joey, God will reward you doll, for the many hours you spent taking care of his every need. Your Dad, (your Papa) surely must have raised you right, for the love and care you showed him. You all have been a blessing and a great light to the neighborhood for many years. Jan ice you have been a great help to your dad since your Mother passed away. Clyde has just gone home to be with Mom.  All of you stay close as you have been. Be good to one another and someday through God's Grace you all can be together again. Written by, Sharlene W. Williamson, Taney Case- With a sad heart but with many precious memories we will attempt to write the obituary of our mother, Taney Case Williamson. Morn was born April 3, 1904 at Honaker, KY, in Floyd County, the daughter of Andrew Case and Mary Elizabeth Branham Case both of whom preceded her in death. She gently entered her eternal home December 9, 1992, making her stay on this earth 88 years, 8 months and 6 days. She was the last surviving member of her family.  Her brothers, Andrew Case, Emmet Case, General Case and her sister, Bertha Lee Young all preceded her in death. She was united in marriage to John B. Williamson July 6, 1922 in Hurricane by Elder Willis Blackburn. To this union was born 10 children, two of which preceded her in death, an infant son Donnie Williamson and an infant daughter Nadine Williamson. Surviving children are Claudia Hale, Wilkesville, .OH; Norma Pinson, Charlotte, NC; Isaac Williamson, Varney, KY; Lena Webb, Varney Ky.; Jettie Jewel, Dexter, OH; Doris Williamson, Chickamauga, GA; Lucille Bostic, Pikeville, KY and Lonnie Williamson, Varney, KY,.  She is also survived by 30 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 3 great great-grandchildren.  Her husband John B. Williamson preceded her in death November 19, 1965.  Her remaining years were spent with deep commitment to her children and community. Mom left us an example of life that would be good for everyone to follow, she was compassionate toward any one who needed a place to stay or food to eat. She loved young people and was always ready to offer moral support and guidance to any and all.  She received great joy in the fact that so many considered her as their second Morn. We feel this is her greatest legacy to us. Morn never attached herself to any church but she loved the Old Regular Baptist. She professed a strong hope in Christ. She regretted that she never got physically able for water baptism. But by the Grace of God we'll meet her again. Mom will be sadly missed by the Pilgrim Home Church, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. We sincerely feel our loss is Heaven's gain. A shadow rest upon our home, We miss your smiling face, Wherever we turn, wherever we look, We see your vacant place. Down the road that's calm and peaceful, Guided by God's loving hand, She has gone upon a journey, To a brighter distant land. Written by her brokenhearted children

Young, Geoffrey Jack -It is with a prayerful heart and many good memories I attempt to write the obituary of my Uncle Jack. Uncle Jack was born April 26, 1915 at Varney, Ky. Deceased this life here on God's footstool Sept.28, 1993. Making his stay here on this earth 78 yrs. 5 months and 2 days. He was the son of James W. "Buddy" Young and Wilda Davis Young. Both preceded him in death. Two brothers Ezra and Luther preceded him in death. One infant sister preceded him in death. Uncle Jack was baptized in 1950 and placed his membership at Pilgrim Home Church and later came with an arm to help organize the Pilgrim Rest Regular Baptist Church. Uncle Jack leaves 4 nephews: Arnold, James W., John L. and Carry R. Young all of Varney, KY. Three nieces: Nell Ruth Lowe of Florida; Phyllis Stanley of Michigan and Justine Maynard of Varney, KY.  Uncle Jack leaves a host of friends and relatives some of whom will miss him very much. He is safely home with Jesus renewing old acquaintance and family member relationships. It will be lonesome for me as days pass by but with God's help, grace and mercy we can meet him in Heaven when our race is run and God calls us home. As the years passed we spent together, and as the days passed by, we gave up loved ones unto death, and we began to cry. And as we talked about them, of memories passed and gone, with Jesus arms around them.  We knew they were safe at home. Now you too have flown to heaven, There in that bright and happy land.  Someday I know that I too can meet you. Then we will sing a new song and walk, once again hand in hand. I love you. Written by one who cared and loved him very much, His niece and sister in Christ, Justine Maynard

Young, Elder Hiram "Hi"-In loving memory and by request of the family, I am honored to write the obituary of one whom I loved and deeply respected.  Brother He was born May 7, 1914 to Andrew Jackson "Butler" Young and Minnie Williamson Young in Varney, KY. He died January 28,1994 at his home in Ocala, FL.  He was married to Suzie Mahala Cline on November II,1938.  This union was blessed with ten children.. .Sons: James Earl, Belleview, FL; Earnest, Anthony, FL; William Jacob, Live Oak, FL; David Darrell and John Easley, Ocala, FL Daughters: Minnie Ellen Maynard, Reddick, FL; Una Faye Painter, Springfield, MO; Mary Magdaline Bullard, Silver Springs, FL; Hester Ann Adcock and Myrtle Neon Davies, Ocala, FL.  He had twenty three grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters: Polly Olesky, Bear, DE and Stella Slone, Turkey Creek, KY. Baptized the first Sunday in June, 1951 at Salem Church in Goody, KY, he placed his membership with Turkey Creek Church. In 1954 he came by letter to Southern Home Church in Citra, FL where he remained a member until his death. He was ordained to preach on August 5, 1961 and served as assistant moderator for twenty Five years. Brother Hi's faith and courage was evident during his illness. In his final days he preached and told of the goodness of the Lord. He told his wife, "I'm going to shine' like the morning sun." He died an honorable death, surrounded by the love and care of his family. You could see and feel the love in the way his sweet wife and children cared for his needs. Brother Hi will be missed by his family and by the church, however we have great joy and consolation in the promise of our Lord when he said, "Whither I go thou canst not follow me now, but thou shall follow me afterwards." I feel that Brother Hi has followed the Lord and now waits with joy for the redemption of the body, "for God hath raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power."
