Ruth was preceded in death by a brother, Charlie, and a sister, Icey Quillen.

Farris, Corda Wages-The last time I saw Corda before her death, January 8,1995, was the fourth Sunday in September, 1994, at a memorial meeting in Magoffin County. During the close of church that day, she came shouting up to me in my wheelchair and said: "Wardie, I bowed on my knees and asked God to save my soul. I know God saved me and I will meet you in Heaven someday." Corda Wages Farris, the daughter of John Andy and Martha Emaline Back Wages, was born November 19, 1906 at Seitz, KY. She was married to Harlan Farris and was the mother of the eleven children mentioned in Harlan's obituary. Corda told me some time before she was baptized that she was ready to be baptized when I became able. I encouraged her not to wait. I told her I would do the ceremony and this is what happened. It was a beautiful baptism at the mouth of Puncheon Creek in Magoffin County, the fourth Sunday in May, 1994. Elders Clayton Montgomery and Odes Williams performed the baptism and I said the ceremony from my wheelchair on the banks of Puncheon Creek. Corda always said she would never come to the church unless she was sure she was ready-that there had been a change in her life. She took her membership with the Redeemed Church. Like her husband, Harlan, she traveled many miles to attend Baptist churches in Kentucky and Ohio. Corda enjoyed giving gifts to her friends. One that was especially appreciated was a beautiful handmade quilt that she gave to Clayton and Elsie Montgomery who helped her in so many ways. Corda's family has lost a precious mother and Redeemed Church, a cherished member.
Written by two dear friends of Harlan and Corda Farris Wardie and Hazel Craft

Farris, Harlan -the son of Jimmy and Sarah Jane Walters Farris, was born November 20, 1900 at Belknap, KY, in Wolfe County. To this union the following children were born: Edith, William, Harold Clay, Kenneth, Norma Jean, Maurine, James Luke Hager, Wardie, Robert and Vaughn. Harlan died August 9, 1972 at Wilmington, OH, of heart failure. He was buried in Magoffin County, KY, in the Gill Williams Cemetery. He spent his youth and early married life in Magoffin County. He then moved to Ohio where he worked for many years at the Delco Products-General Motors in Dayton, OH, from which he retired. The love of his life was his children and grandchildren. It would be a truthful statement to say he was loved and respected by all children with whom he came in contact. Norma Jean, Harlan's daughter, had the highest praise for her well loved and respected father. He stuck with her all the way when she gave a home to her brother's children. Harlan traveled many miles to church and was a great believer in the old time way. He loved the principals of the Baptist faith. He made several comments about how he enjoyed the preachers in the Blackey area. Harlan was a dear friend of ours and of the Old Baptist Church.

Sometimes I think it was the best part. It will take a long time to get used to you being gone, but I hope and pray with our Savior's help we will be together again. Sleep in peace, mother.
Don't grieve for me. For now I'm free.
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took his hand when I heard him call,
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day.
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
I found my new home at close of day.
my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Aye, yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I've savored much,
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now, "He set me free."

Lavender, Mary Alice Roberts-Redeemed Church has suffered the loss of another one of it's beloved members, Mary Alice Lavender. It is hard to give up staunch and faithful laborers in the Lord's vineyard here on earth, but we know that our loss is Heaven's gain, and that our God does all things well. Mary Alice was born to Isaac M. and Nannie Hall Roberts on July 25, 1911 in Floyd County, KY. She passed away on April 18,1995. Her family moved near the Kitts Hill area of Lawrence County, OH, when she was still a child. She lived nearby the rest of her life. She was married to Orville "Cat" Lavender who preceded her in death several years ago. They reared one son, Jerry Lavender. She leaves Jerry and his wife, Mary, two grandsons, Jerry and his wife, Brenda, and Randy and his wife, Carla, and five or six great-grandchildren, all of whom Mary Alice loved dearly. She leaves one brother, John, the last of her large immediate family, and a host of other relatives and friends. One niece, Sandy, was like a daughter to Mary, doing many, wonderful deeds for her; another niece, Rosemary, was especially close to her. Mary never failed to appreciate those who were good and kind to her. What a precious sister in the Lord's family Mary was! Her joy was to labor to make life easier for others. In her humble way she had cooked and fed and cared for hundreds of church people and others who came her way even before she joined the church. While in the church, she worked tirelessly to feed and care for those who came to worship with us. Mary was a cheerful giver and continued to aid the church after she was too ill to be there in person. She loved to hear about the meetings. Her heart was in the Lord and His family. Oh, how she loved the good old "Way." She stood firm as stone, always contending for the faith that was once delivered unto the saints as her husband had also done until his death. Mary had made all arrangements for her funeral before she died. She chose the songs and called Brother Clayton Montgomery and told him what she wanted done. He kindly did as she asked and it was a beautiful funeral. She was laid to rest by her husband in Kitts Hill Cemetery to await the glorious Day when the Lord shall come to gather the Redeemed of His blood and take us to the Heaven of Heavens to be with our Lord and God forevermore. Farewell for a while, my sister in the Lord for many years. I've been blessed to know you from our school days, and I thank the Lord for you. We shall meet again with all the host of Heaven where death and parting will be no more.
Your sister in the love of our Lord, Helena Blankenship
